[Popular Izakaya in the Tenjin Area] A popular spot for fish lovers! An excellent small restaurant where you can enjoy lunch on weekends and holidays (Fukuoka)

Hello! I'm Yumi Kuroishi, a writer who connects the city of Fukuoka with its people.

This time, we will introduce a small restaurant in the Tenjin area that is well-known for its delicious fresh seafood dishes.

You can also drink during the day on weekends and holidays! "Osakakotora" (Watanabe-dori, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City), a popular small restaurant known for its fresh fish

Conveniently located about a 3-minute walk from Tenjin Minami Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line, O-Sakana Kotora is a popular small restaurant that opened in January 2024.

The shop is run by the owner, Mimizuka Tatsuya, a professional fish connoisseur.

He trained for eight years at Tora-san, a popular izakaya in Takasago that prides itself on its fish dishes, and he also learned about purchasing fish at Itoyoshi, a fresh fish shop in Yanagibashi Rengo Market. Utilizing this experience, he personally selects seasonal fish at Nagahama Fresh Fish Market every morning.

We offer the best cooking methods to bring out the best in the fish.

Although it's a hidden restaurant on the second floor of a building, it's already popular among fish and sake lovers. It's open from 12 noon on weekends and holidays, so you can enjoy drinking during the day.

The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with six counter seats and three tables (total of 12 seats).

Children are also welcome, but if you have children under junior high school age, please make a reservation by phone first.

Enjoy the flavors of the season! Three popular dishes: sashimi, overnight dried fish, and sake steamed fish

This time, we will introduce three menu items that are perfect for the upcoming season.

The must-try menu item at O-Sakana Kotora is the Sashimi Platter (1,700 yen per portion; photo shows one portion).

This popular dish features a platter of 6-7 types of fresh seasonal fish, and the contents change depending on what is available. On this day, from left to right in the photo, the dishes were: Yaito and bonito from Nagasaki Prefecture, seared grouper from Karatsu, wild amberjack from Tsushima, fresh tuna, horse mackerel, bigfin reef squid, sea urchin from Hokkaido, and parboiled conger eel from Oita Prefecture.

All of the fish is incredibly fresh, fatty, and delicious! It's great that you can enjoy a variety of flavors on one dish, such as seared or scalded.

Don't miss out on the homemade overnight dried fish at "O-Sakana Kotora"! The fish changes with the seasons, but there are always 2-3 types available.

Our recommendation at this time of year is the extra-large, fatty "Mexicali" (550 yen per piece; two pieces are pictured).

The fluffy texture and concentrated flavor are superb!

It's so tender you can eat it bone-in and the fragrant flavor fills your mouth. It pairs perfectly with sake, making it a must-try for alcohol lovers.

"Sake-Steamed Ako" (2,200 yen) is perfect for the coming cold season. This dish is made by steaming Ako (red spotted grouper), a high-quality white fish, until it is plump and delicious, and enjoying it with the aroma of dashi broth.

It is steamed with tofu, green onions, and mitsuba, and can be enjoyed like a hot pot.

The thick, sweet, and fluffy flesh is exquisite! There are plenty of condiments to go with the ponzu sauce, such as grated maple leaves and green onions, so you can enjoy a variety of flavors. I was able to fully enjoy the deliciousness of the fish.

Enjoy a luxurious moment with sake that matches your meal

Alcohol lovers will be pleased to know that O-Sakana Kotora has a wide variety of drinks on its menu.

There are usually around 10 types of sake on offer, as well as 3-4 types of red, white, and sparkling wines, so you're sure to find a drink that pairs perfectly with any dish.
