[New Ropponmatsu Store] Customize your spiciness with over 50 different ingredients! The second Fukuoka store of this hugely popular malatang specialty store
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce "Chipao Malatang," a malatang specialty restaurant that opened on October 1, 2025 in Ropponmatsu, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City.
Opening October 1st! The hugely popular "medicinal soup glass noodle" restaurant "Chi Pao Malatang" Ropponmatsu Branch (Ropponmatsu, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)
Originally from Shibuya, Tokyo, the popular "Shippo Malatang" is now available at its first Fukuoka location, the "Tenjin Nishidori Branch" (1st floor of Nishitetsu Grand Hotel). Enjoy the "medicinal soup vermicelli" made with a stewed chicken and pork soup combined with over 30 types of medicinal spices. You can freely choose the ingredients and spiciness to create your own unique bowl.
Shippo Malatang Ropponmatsu Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Ropponmatsu Station on the Fukuoka Municipal Subway. Located on the first floor of a building near Ropponmatsu Crossing, it has a bright atmosphere that students and families can easily drop in to.

The interior of the store is more spacious than the Tenjin Nishidori store, and the aisles are wider. It has an open feel and is comfortable to spend time in.
There are mostly counter seats, but there are also table seats in the back, so it's safe to bring children.
Choose from a variety of ingredients and soups to suit your mood that day, making you want to come back again and again.
The charm of "Shippo Malatang" is the "fun of customization"!
The base is "Mala Tang (soup + glass noodles only)" (620 yen) and you can add your own ingredients to it. You can also change the type of soup, spiciness, and noodles.

STEP 1: Choose your ingredients
First, choose your favorite toppings from the vegetables and ingredients lined up in the refrigerated case, put them in a bowl, and hand it over to the staff. All ingredients are sold by weight at 3.1 yen per 1g.

There are over 50 different types, including vegetables, mushrooms, meat, seafood, sausages, xiaolongbao, shrimp dumplings, and other dumplings!
Ingredients that are not in the refrigerated case, such as pork, beef, lamb, shrimp, squid, clams, coriander, mekabu seaweed, and mozzarella cheese, can be added as "toppings" (150 yen each) at the time of payment.
It may be tempting to be greedy and take more, but it is recommended to adjust the amount while looking at the scale provided.
The ingredients I chose this time are "bok choy", "wood ear mushroom", "Chinese cabbage", "tomato", "bun moja", and "fish roe balls", and they're all beautifully colorful♪ This all weighs about 140g.

STEP 2: Choose the spiciness and type of soup (arrangement), and whether or not you want to change the noodles, and then place your order.
Hand your chosen ingredients to the staff and specify the spiciness of the soup. At this time, you can also tell them if you would like any additional toppings, the type of soup, or changes to the noodles.
You can choose the spiciness of the soup from 0 to 10 (4 and above are an additional 88 yen), but for first-time customers or those who don't like spicy food, we recommend starting with the mild 1-2 spiciness. Apparently 0 spiciness is also popular among Fukuoka residents!

The soup can also be customized to "Tom Yum," "Sesame Dandan," "Hot and Sour Soup," "Tonic," or "Gokuraku Zen" (each for an additional 150 yen).

In addition to the regular vermicelli, you can also change the noodles to "Chinese noodles," "Konjac noodles," or "Seaweed noodles" (150 yen each). You can also choose between medium-thick and thick vermicelli. For an additional 150 yen, you can also get a large portion or extra noodles.
A healthy and satisfying malatang that will warm your body gently!
After ordering, we waited at our seats for a while, and then the finished malatang arrived!
The photo shows the base "Mala Tang (soup + glass noodles only)" (620 yen), to which I added about 140g of the ingredients I chose earlier (434 yen) and the "Add-on Topping" "Soft-boiled egg" (+150 yen). I chose the soup at level 1 spiciness and didn't change the noodles, so the total came to 1,204 yen.

Although you can smell the spices, it's not too spicy, and just the right amount of spiciness to warm your body. The glass noodles are chewy and packed with plenty of ingredients, making it healthy yet very satisfying!

This is a variation of the base soup, "Mala Tang (soup + glass noodles)" (620 yen), into "Sesame Dandan" (+150 yen). I chose thick glass noodles. I chose about 160g of toppings (496 yen) and "Cilantro" (+150 yen) as an "Add-on Topping," for a total of 1,416 yen.

The creamy, mellow soup with a hint of sesame and the chewy texture of the wide vermicelli are a perfect match! The fresh aroma of the coriander on top adds a nice accent.

The average price is about 1,250 yen.
"Shippo Malatang" offers both the "fun of choosing as much as you like of what you like" and the "satisfaction of eating well while being mindful of your health and beauty." With its long-awaited opening in Ropponmatsu, it looks set to become even more popular!
