
A noteworthy event featuring Kyushu and Asian coffee tastings and exquisite sweets (Hakata Hankyu)
A must-see for coffee lovers!
This time, we will introduce some noteworthy events taking place at Hakata Hankyu.
[August 27th - September 1st, 2025] "Kyushu Asia Coffee Festival 2025" to be held at Hakata Hankyu
The Kyushu Asia Coffee Festival 2025 will be held on the 8th floor event hall of Hakata Hankyu from Wednesday, August 27th to Monday, September 1st, 2025.
This year marks the third time the event has been held, and 20 brands will be featured, including four brands from Kyushu, Okinawa, and Asia making their first appearance. You can compare the different coffees and find your favorite.
There will also be snacks to go with the coffee, so it's a 6-day event that can be enjoyed by coffee lovers and those new to coffee!

The presenter will be Takafumi Hirata, chairman of the Fukuoka City Coffee Shop Association and coffee master. He is the former owner of Cafe de Caffa, a coffee shop on Keyaki Street, and is currently engaged in coffee education activities with the aim of improving the quality of coffee in Fukuoka.

Before enjoying the event, we recommend checking out the brands that interest you.
There is also an "aroma tasting corner" where you can try different brands of beans and compare them. It might be fun to trust your intuition with the aroma.
Additionally, members of the Fukuoka Artisan Association will be appearing as coffee concierges, recommending coffees to suit your tastes!
Find your favorite cup! Taste comparison of 20 brands of coffee
Once you get the "Starter Set" (1,815 yen), which includes two tickets and a mini mug, you can start your tasting experience. The mug is an event-exclusive design selected in a competition among 50 students from the design department of the Kyushu branch of the Japan Designer Academy, a vocational school.
If two tickets aren't enough, don't worry, there are additional tickets available (2 tickets for 1,100 yen).

This time, a total of 20 coffee specialty stores will be featured. You can chat with the store staff and find your favorite cup of coffee.
At the venue, you can enjoy watching each shop brew their own coffee right in front of you. The differences in brewing methods such as cloth drip and paper drip, the water to use, and the timing of brewing will all be useful references for coffee time at home.

Now, let's take a look at some of the stores that will be featured this time!
[First store at Hakata Hankyu] Azama Coffee Farm (Okinawa)
This farm-run store is the first in Okinawa to receive JAS certification for organically roasted coffee. They roast and serve carefully selected beans, including Peruvian coffee beans. Their blend of Peruvian beans creates a cup of coffee with a pleasant bitterness and rich flavor.

The "Amawari Blend," which can be enjoyed with a ticket, is a blend of beans from Peru, and has a moderate bitterness and richness.

[First store in Hakata Hankyu] AKHA AMA COFFEE (Thailand)
AKHA AMA COFFEE is a coffee shop established in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2010 by a young man from the Akha people, an ethnic group originally from southern China. They handle everything from growing coffee using sustainable forest farming methods to refining, roasting, and serving it at the cafe.

Here, you can enjoy the light roast "ANUSORN" with a ticket. It features fruity notes like peach and lychee and a refreshing lemon-like acidity. The aftertaste is clean and refreshing like sage, making it perfect for the end of summer!
COFFEE KADO (Kumamoto)
This is a shop where coffee is roasted and sold by Yohei Kubota, winner of the Japan Hand Drip Champion 2017 award.

The ticket allows you to drink "Kado Blend." This balanced blend is perfect for everyday enjoyment and is roasted three times: Colombia is dark roast, Guatemala is medium roast, and Ethiopia is light roast. Be sure to try the hand-dripping technique that has earned it the number one spot in Japan.

Geothermal Coffee (Kumamoto)
"Geothermal Coffee" is coffee made by washing the coffee beans using geothermal steam from the Waita hot spring resort in Oguni town, then steaming them before roasting them, allowing you to enjoy a coffee that takes advantage of the natural flavors of Aso.

Here, Peruvian "Cochapampa" is served with tickets. It has a smooth, rich flavor with a good balance of umami, acidity, and slight bitterness, making it easy to drink without any peculiar taste.

In addition to these, there will be stores from Fukuoka, as well as from other prefectures in Kyushu, Korea, and Taiwan.
Coffee cocktails too! Check out new ways to enjoy it
The recent rise in the market price of coffee beans and the impact of climate change are expected to reduce the number of areas suitable for coffee cultivation, creating the "Coffee 2050 Problem." Coffee, which we take for granted, may become a very precious drink in the future.
We explore the possibilities of coffee as a luxury item, and offer products recommended for those who feel that simply enjoying coffee is not enough.
[Demonstration] CAFFE OSPITALE (Fukuoka)
CAFFE OSPITALE is Kyushu's first Italian Espresso Association certified store. With a ticket, you can enjoy Caffè Checarato, the Italian version of iced coffee, which makes full use of the flavor of espresso. Its distinctive foam and slightly bitter taste make it perfect for the hot summer.

The signature dessert "Sfogliatella" (381 yen each) will also be available, so try pairing it with coffee.
[Demonstration] Bakery and Art Café Lier (Saga)
"bakery and art café lier" is a shop that offers home-roasted coffee, bread, and an art gallery. Their "Coffee Jelly Latte" (770 yen) is an exquisite combination of the bittersweetness of the jelly, made with 100% home-roasted coffee, and the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream.

The "Muesli Bread" (721 yen) is a gorgeous treat, filled with cranberries, raspberries, nuts, and other ingredients that are flavored with rum.
Tanegashima Gelato HOPE (Kagoshima)
Tanegashima Gelato HOPE turns agricultural produce lovingly grown on Tanegashima into gelato by freezing it in season.
The popular collaboration gelato using beans from the participating brands will be available again this time. This time, you can enjoy gelato made with beans from "Geothermal Coffee" and "Café de Caffa" (from 621 yen per flavor).

[First time at Hakata Hankyu] The Explorers (Fukuoka)
The Explorers is a cafe and bar opened in 2019 by two brothers who have visited over 100 countries together. This time they will be serving traditional Portuguese sweets, egg tarts (391 yen), as well as a coffee cocktail bar.

The bar will be open only from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM from Wednesday, August 27th to Sunday, August 31st. Takahiro Hirata, the younger brother of the owner, who worked as a bartender on an overseas cruise ship, will be serving internationally loved coffee cocktails such as the "Espresso Martini" (1,000 yen).

[First store at Hakata Hankyu] Maison des Tartelettes Frais (Fukuoka)
Located in Hakozaki, Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City, Maison des Tartelettes Frais is a French-style tart specialty shop that sells sophisticated tarts such as the Tiramisu Tart (616 yen each), which combines rich mascarpone with slightly bitter espresso coffee.
On sale only from Wednesday, August 27th to Saturday, August 30th. The sale ends at 6:00 PM on the last day.

[First store at Hakata Hankyu] Comida de Batata (Kumamoto)
Comida de Batata is a potato chip specialty store that uses domestic potatoes and rice oil. Their potato chips (40g, 540 yen each) are characterized by their crunchy texture and strong potato flavor, and come in flavors such as "Salted Caramel" and "Pepper Mayonnaise." If you want to enjoy them with coffee, we recommend the "Salted Caramel" flavor!

[Hakata Hankyu advance sale and demonstration] DOUBLE COFFEE (Fukuoka)
DOUBLE COFFEE, a brand from Fukuoka that specializes in Vietnamese coffee beans, will be collaborating with Le Ton des Saveurs in Yakuin, Fukuoka, to create the Yame Matcha and Domestic Rice Flour Florentine (621 yen).

"Adult Drinkable Sweets! Drinkable 'Freshly Squeezed' Matcha Mont Blanc" (935 yen) is a Vietnamese coffee and Yame matcha cafe latte topped with matcha Mont Blanc, and is only available at the evening cafe. It will be on sale from 5:00 PM from Wednesday, August 27th to Sunday, August 31st, and from 2:00 PM on Monday, September 1st.
There are only 30 cups available each day, so don't miss out.

Experience the charm of coffee even more! Workshops also available
Workshops are also held every day to further deepen your appreciation for coffee. You can learn the secrets of cloth drip coffee, how to make delicious siphon coffee, or even try Turkish coffee. Advance reservations are required, so please check the website.
Additionally, the concurrently held "Hakata Creators Festival 2025" will feature a selection of tableware perfect for coffee time. Be sure to check it out too!
