[Fukuoka souvenirs] A wide selection of Yamakasa goods! "Open from 3am on July 15th" A new and popular store near Kushida Shrine
Hello. I'm Ucchi, and I turn into a girl when I see something delicious.
This time, we will be introducing you to the new facility that was created after the old souvenir shop at "Hakata Machiya Furusatokan" was renovated!
A collection of Hakata souvenirs and a cafe! "Hakatakara" at "Hakata Machiya Furusatokan" (Reizei-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City)
A four-minute walk from Kushidajinja-mae Station on the Nanakuma Subway Line. The former souvenir shop of "Hakata Machiya Furusatokan," where you can experience the good old Hakata culture and lifestyle, was reborn as "Hakatakara" in April 2025.
This is an antenna shop for food and crafts produced by the "Hakata Daimaru Kyushu Expeditionary Team Co., Ltd.", which has been promoting the charms of various parts of Kyushu. It promotes the charms of Hakata by incorporating modern elements while staying close to its history and culture.

The shop is stocked with traditional crafts such as Hakata weaving and Hakata dolls, as well as products that can only be purchased at "hakatakara," and a new cafe has also been added.
Find "Hakata Gion Yamakasa" merchandise here!
The highlight is the merchandise from Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a summer tradition in Hakata! You can purchase fans, postcards, stickers, and other items featuring illustrations that convey the dynamism of the Oiyama, as well as heartwarming illustrations.

Hand towels and stickers depicting the townsfolk wearing Mizuhappi coats are also available for purchase.

A selection that will surprise everyone! "DECO Chocolate"
If you go to the far right side of the building, you will find the "DECO Chocolate" corner!
Some are inscribed with the Japanese alphabet, others with the names of Nishitetsu Railway and Fukuoka City Subway stations (starting at 88 yen each), and there are so many of them it's hard to choose.

The inside is the classic cream and milk flavor.

During the "Hakata Gion Yamakasa" period, you should definitely get your hands on "Hakata Gion Yamakasa DECO Chocolate" (108 yen each).

The design features a paper-cut design of mountain men by the late paper-cut artist Konishi Issuki. The backs of their Mizuhappi coats look dashing! This is apparently the only place where "Hakata Gion Yamakasa DECO Chocolate" is sold.

You can purchase as little as one piece. They also have special boxes, so it would be a good idea to choose the DECO chocolate that you like and take it as a souvenir.

Hakata's traditional crafts and items that can only be found here
Traditional Hakata crafts such as Hakata weaving, Hakata dolls, Hakata bento boxes, Hakata tops, and Hakata paper mache are also on display and for sale.

Image: hakatakara
There were also items such as the "Yachiko Daruma," which was made with the cooperation of "Yamabikoya," a store that deals in local toys.
We also recommend the "Nyuka Panda Baumkuchen" (594 yen each), a collaboration product between "Niwaka Senpei Honpo Tounondo," maker of the Hakata specialty "Nyuka Senpei," and "Katanukiya," maker of Baumkuchen that you cut out into shapes.

Image: Ucchi
This flat-baked Baumkuchen is made by carefully baking many layers of plain dough with a subtle scent of eggs and almonds. On top of that, a cute panda design with a fake face is printed and cut. The silly expression is so cute!

The "Amaou Nikka Baumkuchen" (594 yen each), inspired by the "Amaou" brand of strawberry from Fukuoka Prefecture, is sold exclusively at "hakatakara".

The strawberry-inspired design of the mask is so cute! And of course, the taste is also very satisfying.

There is also a local limited edition product called "Katanuki Nikka Baumkuchen" (594 yen each), which is a cut-out Baumkuchen that represents Nikka Senpei! Under the mask is a "Salted Caramel Baumkuchen" with a caramel-flavored dough that is fragrantly sweet with a hint of Amakusa salt.

The "Niwaka Wooden Keychains" (880 yen each) with Niwaka masks and Hakata dialect engraved on them are also unique and cute.

Enjoy the flavors of popular Fukuoka restaurants! A must-see cafe corner
A new cafe corner was added with the renovation. Here you can enjoy Japanese tea made with tea leaves from Mitsuyasu Seikaen Teahouse, a long-established Japanese tea specialty store that represents Hakata, hand-dripped coffee made with coffee beans from STEREO COFFEE, a coffee shop located in Watanabedori, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, and seasonal fruit drinks.
The moment you put the "Lemon Squash made with Itoshima Lemons" (600 yen), you'll be hooked on the deep lemon acidity and the refreshing fizz of the carbonation. Made with Itoshima lemons soaked in honey, it has a delicious refreshing sweetness that hits you later! It's a drink that will blow away the summer heat.

The adorable "Niwaka Monaka Ice Cream (Ice Cream + Monaka + Anko)" (470 yen) features a monaka in the shape of a Niwaka mask, and can be topped with "Kofuku Mochi (Yuzu Kosho Flavor, Mugwort Flavor, Udon Flavor)" created by the long-established Japanese sweets store "Ochacha Manto Honpo Fuki" or matcha sauce from "Mitsuyasu Seikaen Tea Shop."
I topped it with one "Kofuku Mochi (Yuzu pepper flavor)" (plus 80 yen).

It's delicious when eaten together with milky ice cream and red bean paste! The spicy yuzu pepper flavor of the "Kofuku Mochi" is addictively delicious! I had it with "Cold Brewed Sencha" (450 yen), and it had a clean aftertaste and was a perfect match.
This season, the "Ice Candy" (250 yen) from "Kabashima Hyouka" in Yanagawa City is also popular! There are five flavors: "Soda Flavor," "Amaou Flavor," "Milk Flavor," "Matcha Flavor," and "Amanatsu Mikan Flavor."

The packaging, which makes you smile with its sweaty and ribbon-wearing Niwa-mask, was actually designed by Miyako, the manager of "Hakatakara." Please enjoy your favorite flavor and package design of the popsicle.
If you're looking for souvenirs from Fukuoka, be sure to check out "Hakatakara." Be sure to stop by between sightseeing and shopping.
By the way, on Tuesday, July 15th, when the 2025 Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival reaches its climax, there will be special opening hours! Hakatakara will open at 3am (the cafe and in-store sales space will open from 9:30am).
In addition to selling Yamakasa goods that are perfect as souvenirs, there will also be popsicles, lemon squash made with Itoshima lemons, and Niwaka Monaka ice cream. A food stall will be set up in front of "Hakatakara". (Text by Ucchi)
