This time we will introduce you to a cafe in Nakatsu city, Oita prefecture, that is popular for its curry. It is also recommended as a stop-off spot when exploring Nakatsu Castle.

TOCOMA coffee & meal is located 5 minutes by car from JR Nakatsu Station, just off Prefectural Route 108, in a quiet residential area.

This two-story cafe offers two or three different types of curry, a daily lunch, homemade sweets, etc. The building has an impressive Japanese modern atmosphere.

The landmark is this sign featuring "Toko Girl," the mascot girl for "TOCOMA."

There is a municipal parking lot called "Shin-Hakatamachi Parking Lot" diagonally in front of the store, where you can park for free for one hour.

The interior of the store is decorated with lots of dried flowers, creating a stylish atmosphere. They also sell miscellaneous goods such as incense.

First, you order on the first floor of the store. The popular "Scones" (350 yen each), "Cookies" (280 yen), and "Muffins" (320 yen each) are also available for takeout.

The food menu offered at the shop is all homemade and changes daily, with curry being the most popular!

On the day I visited, there were four types of curry available: "Sesame Soy Milk Dandan Curry" (1,280 yen), "Green Lemon Curry" (1,180 yen), "Seafood Black Curry" (1,280 yen), and "BLT Hot Sandwich" (760 yen).

If you dine in, you must order one drink, and if you order it along with a food menu item, you can enjoy a 100 yen discount on all drinks.

The dessert menu also featured eight varieties on the day, including "Basque Cheesecake" (760 yen) and "Black Sesame Shortcake" (790 yen), and it seems that many customers visit the store just for the sweets.

Green Lemon Curry

The stylishly presented "Green Lemon Curry" (1,180 yen) comes with two pieces of meat on the bone. It has been a popular staple item since the restaurant first opened.

It comes with side dishes such as carrots, and you can also add cheese toppings (+100 yen) or get a large portion (+100 yen) (the photo below is without toppings).

They make this dish by slowly simmering chicken wings from Kyushu until they are tender and fall apart.

It's so soft you can cut it with a spoon, and the flavor is soaked all the way through to the center, making it delicious.

This green curry has an excellent balance of sweetness and spiciness and goes well with turmeric rice.

We also recommend squeezing some lemon into the soup to change the flavor. This will make the spiciness milder and more refreshing.

Sesame soy milk tantan curry

The shop's recommendation is the "Sesame Soy Milk Dandan Curry" (1,280 yen).

This is a limited-time menu item, but due to its popularity, it will be available for a while until the next new curry is released.

This dish also comes topped with colorful side dishes, eggs, and meat miso.

It uses several spices such as cumin, cardamom, and brown mustard, and has an irresistible hotness. It also contains soy milk, so the spiciness is milder.

The meat miso topping was a little sweet, and went perfectly with the spicy roux!

This is an espresso-based "Cafe Latte (ICE)" (600 yen) made with Mandheling coffee.
