[A little luxurious lunch in Tenjin] Thick eel! "Crispy skin and fluffy meat" A new restaurant serving high-quality eel
Hello. I'm Ucchi, and I turn into a girl when I see something delicious.
This time, we will introduce you to an eel restaurant that opened in a long-established hotel in Daimyo, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City.
Crispy skin and plump meat! Newly opened eel restaurant "Hakata Unagi-ya Fujiuna Tenjin Main Branch" (1st floor of Nishitetsu Grand Hotel, Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)
Hakata Unagi Restaurant Fujiuna Tenjin Main Branch opened on February 26, 2025 on the first floor of Nishitetsu Grand Hotel, located at the corner of Tenjin Nishi Dori and Meiji Dori.
This is a sister restaurant of the popular "Hakata Unagi-ya Fujiuna" restaurant near Hakata Station. You can enjoy special eel dishes, where carefully selected live eels are prepared by skilled chefs in the restaurant and grilled directly over a high flame without being steamed.
The Kanto-style "opening the back" and Hakata-style "grilling on the ground" make for crispy skin and plump meat! This popular menu allows you to experience the techniques of traditional Japanese eel cooking.

The interior is elegant and calm, with table seating and private rooms with sunken kotatsu tables.

The sunken kotatsu can seat nearly 30 people if you remove the partition. It can be used for a variety of occasions, such as entertaining guests or for celebrations.

"Unagi-ju" from 3,800 yen! A wide variety of a la carte dishes such as "Unagi croquette" are also available.
The same menu is served all day at "Hakata Unagi Restaurant Fujiuna Tenjin Main Branch."
The "Oju" (3,800 yen to 5,200 yen), where you can enjoy the taste of "jiyaki" by a craftsman, and the "Seiromushi" (4,200 yen to 5,600 yen), a Fukuoka local dish of steamed eel kabayaki and rice, each come with "liver soup" and "pickles." The price difference is based on the amount of eel, whether you get 4 kan (4 slices), 5 kan, or 6 kan.

There are also "Grilled Eel Set Meal" (3 pieces for 4,500 yen, 6 pieces for 6,500 yen), "White-Grilled Eel Set Meal" (3 pieces for 4,500 yen, 6 pieces for 6,500 yen), "Steamed Eel Set Meal" (3,800 yen) and "Children's Eel Set Meal" (2,100 yen).

Other dishes are also available, such as "Umaki 1 1/4" (800 yen),

"Yanagawa Nabe" (3,500 yen per person) is a dish of fragrantly grilled eel and shredded burdock root, covered in egg.

You can enjoy dishes such as "Eel Croquettes" (900 yen), which are rarely seen at other eel restaurants.

Enjoy both broiled and unglazed eel! "All-you-can-eat eel meal"
This time, I ordered the "All-you-can-eat Eel Meal" (5,000 yen).
The set includes two pieces of broiled eel, two pieces of white-grilled eel, three types of sashimi, real wasabi, rice, a small side dish, eel chawanmushi, pickles, soup, and fruit.

Inside the vermilion-colored box were beautifully charred eel and golden shirayaki. When I opened the lid, I was shocked and exclaimed, "Wow!"

Image: Ucchi
I started with the unglazed one. When I took a bite, the skin was crisp and the meat was fluffy! It was thick and delicious!

If you add the accompanying Itoshima "Mataichi no Shio" (Mataichi salt), the flavor will be enhanced and doubled in deliciousness, and if you add some real wasabi, it will have a refreshing taste! You can enjoy the original taste of the eel while enjoying the change in flavor.
The skin of kabayaki is crispier and the meat is crunchy than that of shirayaki!

It has a sweet and spicy taste, so it's delicious without any seasoning, but sprinkling some Japanese pepper on it brings out the flavor even more. The aroma of Japanese pepper wafting through your nose is irresistible.
The sashimi is also super fresh and delicious!

The chawanmushi comes topped with eel. How luxurious! Should I eat the eel first, or together with the chawanmushi? I had a hard time deciding...

Save the eel in the bento box and enjoy the ochazuke at the end.
If you wish, you can have a set of condiments provided, including dashi stock made from kelp and shiitake mushrooms, chopped seaweed, chopped green onions, and wasabi.

This time I placed half a piece each of kabayaki and shirayaki on top.
Personally, I think adding the kabayaki was a great choice! The sauce melts into the broth, creating an exquisite taste. It's a luxurious flavor that's different from eating it as is.

Not only was the eel delicious, but the polite service from the staff was also very satisfying. I hope you all will visit this restaurant. (Text by Ucchi)
