[Sightseeing in Yanagawa, Fukuoka] Souvenirs and snacks to try while walking! The impressive "Mutsuyaki" and giant rice crackers
Hello. I am Yorimichi, the owner of the blog "Yorimichi's Fukuoka Introduction," which introduces delicious restaurants in Fukuoka.
A new specialty Japanese confectionery has been born in Yanagawa City. Let us introduce it to you right away.
Perfect for eating on the go! "Kasanaya Okinahata" (Yanagawa City) - Shop selling mudskipper-shaped obanyaki and pressed rice crackers
Casanaya Okihata opened in November 2024 in Okihata-cho, a major tourist area that is about a 10-minute drive from Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station and is home to the Yanagawa Feudal Lord Tachibana Residence, Onohana, and the river boat boarding point.
There is no big sign, but it is next to the Yanagawa Tourist Information Center.

A colorful mudskipper ornament is the landmark. This is a take-out specialty store.

The signature item is the large, mudskipper-shaped "Mutsuyaki." There is the crispy thin-skinned "Mutsuyaki" (220 yen) and the "Daifuku Mutsuyaki" (250 yen) wrapped in daifuku mochi.

The "Mutsuyaki" is available in bean paste, custard, seasonal bean paste, and ham and mayonnaise (plus 30 yen), while the "Daifuku Mutsuyaki" is available in bean paste and custard.
Additionally, there is a new item in the lineup called "Pressed Senbei" (600 yen).
Drinks available included "Americano" (500 yen) and "Cafe Latte" (550 yen). Soft serve ice cream was 400 yen each.

Very cute and tasty! Great value for money "Mutsuyaki"
Let's get started! I ordered the grilled mutton with custard (220 yen) and ham and mayonnaise (250 yen).
They don't prepare food in advance, but make it after you order, so it takes a little time, but the quality is impeccable.

There's some debate as to whether you should eat taiyaki from the head or the tail, but with this one it seems like it doesn't matter where you start.

First up is the "Custard". When I cut it in half, a sweet aroma and steam rose from inside.

The dough is thin and crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
It's filled with more custard than you'd expect, yet is not too sweet.
It has an elegant finish and is delicious.

Next is "Ham Mayo". I like this one too!

It contains two large slices of ham.
This is only 250 yen. It's filling and good value for money.

Bigger than your face! Crispy and flavorful "Pressed Senbei"
I also bought some "Pressed Senbei" (600 yen).
You can choose between squid and shrimp, and I chose squid this time, but apparently shrimp is more photogenic.

I compared it to my face, and you can see how big it is. It's bigger than an adult's face.

It's too big for one person to eat, so it would be best to share it with two or more people instead of monopolizing it all by yourself.

The squid "pressed rice crackers" had a texture similar to dried squid in the middle and were a little hard, but the texture and flavor were excellent.

Both the "Mutsuyaki" and the "Pressed Senbei" are perfect companions for river boat rides and strolls.
