[Itoshima outing] Plump and delicious! A wide variety of side dishes available at the oyster hut (Fukuoka)
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce you to an oyster hut located in Funakoshi Fishing Port in Itoshima City, about a 50-minute drive from the center of Fukuoka City.
Look for the pink! Popular oyster hut "Hattoriya" (Itoshima City)
Oyster huts are a seasonal feature of winter in Itoshima, Fukuoka. Every year from mid-October to late March, a total of around 30 oyster huts open in six areas of Itoshima City - Fukuyoshi, Gafuri, Funakoshi, Gishi, Fukae, and Nokita - and are bustling with visitors.
This time we will introduce "Hattoriya" located in Funakoshi Fishing Port. It is an oyster hut run by Itoshima fishermen for generations. They are particular about hygiene facilities such as ozone sterilization and manage live oysters.
It is located at the very end of a row of seven oyster huts, and has a striking pink exterior.
It has frequently been featured in the media, and photos of athletes and celebrities who have visited are displayed at the entrance.
There may be a line on weekends, but reservations aren't accepted, so we recommend arriving early.
Grilling it yourself is both delicious and fun! Enjoy the winter delicacy of oysters
Although it is called a "shed," the restaurant is sturdy and spacious, with a grill set up at each table.
The table fee is 400 yen, which includes the grill and rental items (gloves, oyster knives, plates, chopsticks, tongs, etc.). You can also rent a jumper to protect yourself from getting dirty.
Orders can be placed on your smartphone, so you can take your time choosing your menu. The food is served very quickly after you order!
You can bring your own drinks and oyster toppings to the "Fukuheya" (please make sure to take any trash you bring home with you). If you bring alcohol, there is a time limit for seating (1 hour and 30 minutes).
Soy sauce and ponzu sauce are provided, and they also sell butter, mayonnaise, cheese, ketchup, yuzu pepper, wasabi, green onions, grated daikon radish, and grated momiji leaf (50 yen each), as well as ajillo sauce (150 yen) and a variety of drinks, so you can of course enjoy the shop empty-handed!
If you want to be particular, we recommend bringing olive oil or other things with you.
A large number of grilled oysters (1,300 yen per kg) are lined up on the grill... what a feast for the eyes! You can check the grilling instructions on the LINE menu page, and the staff will also kindly give you instructions.
The oysters are plump and have a faint scent of the sea. When you put one in your mouth, the moderate saltiness and umami spreads throughout your mouth. They have a smooth texture and you can eat as many as you want.
Personally, I love eating them simply with a little soy sauce, as I feel like I can really enjoy the natural flavor of the oysters.
By the way, whenever I come here with a friend, we eat about 3 to 4 kilograms of oysters in one go.
Another dish we recommend ordering is the "Sazae" (2 pieces for 750 yen). The more you chew it, the more flavor it releases, and the moderate bitterness makes it perfect for drinking alcohol.
There is also a wide selection of grilled dishes on the menu, such as "Half-served Clams" (600 yen), "Scallops" (660 yen per piece), "Spear Squid" (1,000 yen), "Live Tiger Prawns" (520 yen per piece), and "Clam Butter" (560 yen).
The abundant side dishes are also a must-try!
In addition to oysters and other grilled seafood dishes, another attraction of "Fukuheya" is the wide variety of side dishes, such as sashimi such as yellowtail and amberjack, fried foods such as fried shrimp, french fries, and deep-fried shumai, a wide variety of rice dishes such as seafood bowls and oyster fried rice, and desserts such as pudding and soft-serve ice cream.
This time I had the "Oyster Pizza" (800 yen).
Italian food served at an oyster shack is innovative and interesting! It is served piping hot, so be careful not to get burned. You can enjoy a different taste from grilled oysters.
"Oyster rice" (300 yen) is also a must-try. The rice was infused with the oyster essence and was delicious.
There are also menu items that children will enjoy, such as "Jaga Butter" (530 yen), so it's a great place to come with the whole family.
I had a great time talking to the manager, who was very friendly and cheerful, and the staff were also very welcoming.
It's sure to be a wonderful winter memory. Please give it a try. (Text by Aya Hakata)
