[Kokura Station Soba Lunch] There is only one menu! "Extremely delicious" bone-in chicken curry (Kitakyushu)

Hello! We are Taiki Beef Curry, and we are always searching for delicious curry!

This time, we will introduce a chicken curry restaurant located in front of JR Kokura Station that you can enjoy by arranging it to your preferred taste.

"Curry Frankyken" - A humorous chicken curry specialty restaurant (Kyomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Curry Frankyken opened on January 18, 2024 on the second floor of a building behind the shopping facility Saint City, about a three-minute walk from JR Kokura Station.

The store's name brings to mind Lily Franky, an actor from Kitakyushu City, who sent flowers to congratulate the store upon its opening and has also given his approval.

Don't miss the sign beside the stairs, which is changed every day with everything from touching words to humorous illustrations. These are also posted daily on the store's Instagram stories.

By the way, right inside the entrance there is a POP that was created using me, Taiki Beef Curry, as a model.

When I was saying how delicious it was and how my face looked like this, before I knew it, it had been turned into a POP display (I hope it doesn't lose customers...).

A one-off "bone-in chicken curry" that can't be faked!

The only curry menu item at "Curry Frankyken" is the "Bone-in Chicken Curry" (1,000 yen). When you sit down, your order is automatically sent to the kitchen.

When water and hand towels are brought to you, you can decide how much rice you want and whether or not you want any options, and you can also order beer.

Up to 300g of rice is free. Please decide how much you want in 50g increments based on your stomach size.

Also, for anything over 300g you can increase the amount by 1 yen per gram (we even saw some brave souls order 1kg of rice!).

Options include a "raw egg" (50 yen) and a "boiled egg" (100 yen) (some brave souls even ordered both a raw egg and a boiled egg!).

Before you know it, your curry will be brought to you. Please pay when you receive your curry.

The restaurant only has counter seating and serves one type of curry, so turnover is very fast.

With its location in front of Kokura Station, it attracts many office workers, so it seems like it makes sense.

However, there's no need to rush, and there's beer available (both Sapporo Akaboshi medium-sized bottles and Heineken are 650 yen each), so you can take your time to enjoy the curry.

This is the "bone-in chicken curry." It looks incredibly simple.

Curry Frankyken's business style goes against the current spice curry boom. It doesn't offer a mixture of curry toppings or lots of side dishes.

Slightly hard cooked Japanese rice topped with plenty of chicken on the bone.

I think that by using chicken with the bone, the flavor and fat that seeps out from the bone and meat gives the curry richness and depth.

The curry, which is also flavored with garlic and ginger, makes use of fresh spices ground in the amount needed each day.

In my opinion, chicken curry isn't tasty unless it has a strong core flavor.

Recently, there has been too much focus on the use of spices, and it cannot be denied that the flavor and umami of the stock are being neglected.

What's great about this curry is that it has a strong, unwavering flavor base, with spices adding accents.

How to use the "Three Sacred Treasures"

There are what I arbitrarily call the three sacred treasures of Curry Frankyken.

From the left: "Tomato," "Coriander Mix," and "Green Chili Pepper."

This is brought to you when the curry is served. *The photo shows the "raw egg" topping, which is available for an additional fee.

By using these three sacred treasures, you can create your own taste, which is fun. *The "Three Sacred Treasures" is not an all-you-can-eat buffet, but rather a complimentary service.

First, try the curry and rice without adding anything.

If you want to add sweetness, sourness, or a refreshing taste, try adding tomatoes to your desired amount.

"Coriander Mix" is a mix of cilantro and pea sprouts, and is somehow easy to eat even for those who don't like cilantro. Even if you don't like it much, please give it a try.

If you want a refreshing spiciness, try green chili peppers. Be careful not to add too much, but they add a rich flavor that will add an accent to your dish.

Try changing the flavor with the three sacred treasures, or of course just eat it as is. Enjoy your own chicken curry! (Text by Taiki Beef Curry)
