A popular shop serving hearty "moe-dan" fruit sandwiches and rich banana juice (Nakagawa City)
Hello. I'm Ucchi, and I turn into a girl when I see something delicious.
This time, we will introduce a fruit sandwich and banana juice shop in Nakagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
A wide variety of fillings! Fruit sandwiches and rich banana juice at "Matoi Nakagawa" (Nakagawa City)
Matoi Nakagawa store is located in Katanawa, Nakagawa City, about 30 minutes by car from the center of Fukuoka city.
This is a franchise store of "Matoi," a fruit sandwich specialty store from Tokushima. When the owner was thinking of opening a store with his family, his daughter, who loves fruit, discovered "Matoi," and opened the store in Nakagawa City in March 2024.
There is also a banana juice specialty store, "William's Banana," on the premises.
The clinic is located next to the Inoue Family Clinic. Look for the yellow sign that stands out against the blue sky.
There are two parking spaces in front of the store, so you can come by car with peace of mind.
The store's display cases are filled with fruit sandwiches! They also sell frozen sweets and miscellaneous goods, and there is an eat-in space.
Too cute! "Moe-dan" fruit sandwich
The "Moe Dan" fruit sandwiches lined up in the display case are all handmade in the store and made using the most delicious fruits of the season.
There are always about 20 different types of fruit on sale, mainly seasonal fruits.
This season there are products on display using mandarin oranges, persimmons, grapes, strawberries, pineapples, kiwis, and more.
Pictured, from the left, are the "Ikinari Sandwich" (680 yen), the most popular "Domestic Strawberry Sandwich" (680 yen), the "Five-Kind Mix Sandwich" (680 yen), "Strawberry and Grape Sandwich" (680 yen), "Tangerine Sandwich" (480 yen), and "Strawberry and Banana Sandwich" (580 yen).
By the way, the strawberries used are from Hokkaido and the Tohoku region in the summer, and locally grown in Fukuoka in the winter.
When I visited, they had a "Strawberry and Grape Sandwich" that was designed to look like a tulip. The flowers are strawberries, and the stems and leaves are grapes!
There are also versions where the leaves and stems are made from other fruits, such as kiwi. When I talked to the shop staff, they told me that they have also sold mandarin oranges, peaches, and figs made from the flowers. You can find a "flower fruit sandwich" with a different cross-section every time you visit.
Looking at the cross-section, I thought the fruit wouldn't be very big, but I was surprised when I ate it!
It's huge! I was surprised to see that it was filled with fruit! It's more filling than it looks!
The cream is made with cream cheese, and is light and not too sweet. It's easy to eat even for those who don't like sweet things.
I was hooked on the fruit sandwiches filled with cream and fruit.
Expiration date: 15 minutes!? Rich banana juice
"William's Banana" is a banana juice specialty store located in "Matoi Nakagawa Store." Here you can enjoy the banana juice named after the store, "William's Banana" (plain M 500 yen, large 650 yen).
This drink is made using only sweet, rich, carefully selected bananas from Ecuador and contains no added sugar.
The expiration date is 15 minutes. The reason is that bananas oxidize and discolor over time. They tell their customers the expiration date is 15 minutes because they want them to drink it while it's fresh.
It was rich and sweet, but had a refreshing aftertaste!
You can also add toppings such as kinako (roasted soybean flour), cocoa, strawberry, or blueberry to your banana juice (additional 50-150 yen).
There are also plenty of other drinks available, such as "Soda" (4 types, 300 yen each) and "Ice Cafe" (4 types, 450 yen each). I'm always excited about which one to get.
Perfect as a souvenir or a treat for yourself! We also have a wide selection of frozen sweets that you can enjoy whenever you want.
Besides fruit sandwiches and banana juice, frozen sweets are also popular! They are becoming increasingly popular, especially on social media.
There is a wide selection of sweets made with "Matoi" cream, including "Crepes" (680 yen each), "Fruit Tarts" (380 yen each), and cube-shaped cream-filled "Hakowassan" croissants (540 yen each).
There are also frozen sweets that you can eat on the spot, such as the "Shortcake Tin" (1,080 yen each), which is popular for its cute cross-section, the "Matoibou" (520 yen each), which is a shortcake tin turned into an ice cream stick, and "Sweets Tanful" (580 yen), a fruit candy that is popular especially among young people in Korea, so be sure to check them out.
In addition to selling at the store, "Matsuri Nakagawa Store" also opens a stall at events and sells products on the move. There are some products that are not sold at the store!
This is a friendly and polite shop run by a friendly and kind family. Please come and visit us. (Text by Ucchi)
