MINORI CAFE / Munakata City

Enjoy a delicious fermented food dinner that will please your body in a stylish old-fashioned cafe (Munakata City)

Hello. I'm Yuri and I love stylish cafes.

We will introduce dinner at a notable old-style Japanese-style cafe in Munakata City.

I really want to keep this a secret! MINORI CAFE, a stylish old-style cafe where you can relax (Munakata City)

The Akama district of Munakata City has flourished as a key transportation hub since ancient times. Many traditional buildings remain along Prefectural Route 75, creating a very emotional retro landscape.

The cafe we visited this time, MINORI CAFE, is located in an old house in that area, and its charming exterior raises expectations.

It's about a 5-minute walk from the south side of Kyoikudai-mae Station on the JR Kagoshima Main Line.

Inside MINORI CAFE

It's like a stylish living room in someone's house!

While retaining traditional Japanese elements such as tatami mats and sliding doors, the stylish space is a mix of Japanese and Western styles, with sofas and tables.

Candles are placed in the center of the table, creating a chill atmosphere. Perfect for girls' nights and anniversaries.

Blankets and children's chairs were also provided.

Dinner is by reservation only! The most popular "MINORI course" is a reward for your tired body.

MINORI CAFE serves a menu of healthy fermented foods made with homemade koji and amazake.

In addition to lunch, you can also enjoy dinner by reservation (reservations must be made the day before).

What we would like to introduce this time is the dinner-only "MINORI Course" (2,850 yen per person).

The set includes "Bagna Cauda with Garlic Shio Koji", "Rice Flour Bread and Seasonal Shio Koji Ajillo", "Selectable Main Dish", "Enzyme Brown Rice Grilled Rice Balls with Soy Sauce Koji and Dashi Koji Miso Soup", and "Selectable Dessert". *The photo shows three servings of "Selectable Main Dish", and two servings of "Enzyme Brown Rice Grilled Rice Balls with Soy Sauce Koji and Dashi Koji Miso Soup".

We ordered portions for three people, and every dish was amazing in both taste and appearance, so I'll introduce each one.

Bagna Cauda with Garlic and Shio Koji

Colorful summer vegetables such as tomatoes, okra, peppers, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and young corn.

It was great dipped in the garlic and anchovy sauce.

Rice flour bread and seasonal salt koji ajillo

The main ingredients are colorful vegetables such as tomatoes and broccoli, as well as octopus and mushrooms.

Although it contains whole garlic, it has a light taste and almost no smell, probably because it is not minced or grated.

The lemon juice accent also adds a nice flavor.

The rice flour bread has a light and crispy texture, and the olive oil soaked into it makes it incredibly moist.

Choice of main dishes

For the main dish, each person can choose one from six options: "Seasonal fish dish," "Seasonal meat dish (roast beef with garlic koji / +100 yen)," "Amazake cheese dak galbi," "Spicy chicken with soy sauce koji," "Chicken gratin with salt koji and soy milk cream," and "Chicken curry with curry koji and 11 kinds of spices."

This is "Chicken Gratin with Salt Koji and Soy Milk Cream."

The gratin is made with a light white sauce, the complete opposite of the typical Italian gratin, which is full of cheese and very rich. The ingredients are simple, onion, chicken, and broccoli, but the flavors of each ingredient are combined with the shio-koji to create an exquisite gentleness.

And "Chicken curry with curry koji and 11 kinds of spices."

The flavor is complex and intricately spiced, and this dish has a subdued Japanese flavor. It's a very ethnic dish.

The more I ate it, the more I became addicted to the unique spices, and I couldn't stop eating it with my spoon.

This is "Seasonal Fish Dishes." When I visited, they served "Red Fish and Soy Sauce Koji Simmered in Miso" (currently no longer available).

The mild flavor of the broth is very delicious. It has no bones so it's easy for children to eat.

Grilled rice balls made with germinated enzyme brown rice and dashi koji miso soup

A mini-sized grilled rice ball that is like chewy red rice, and miso soup. The rice balls are small, but they will fill you up. *If you choose "Curry Koji and 11 kinds of spice chicken curry" as your main dish, you will only get miso soup with dashi koji and no grilled rice balls.

Choice of dessert

For dessert, each person can choose from "vanilla ice cream," "affogato," or "liqueur ice cream." On this day, the "liqueur ice cream" was peach liqueur.

A course meal with plenty of vegetables, perfect as a reward for tired body.

What impressed me was the overall modest and gentle flavors, made using carefully selected ingredients.

I would definitely recommend this place for spending time with your loved ones.
