[Ukiha Cafe] Enjoy the fluffy and chewy "An Shokupan" bread in a stylish old-fashioned house!
Hello♪ I'm chippachapus and I love going to cafes.
This time, we will introduce you to an old-style Japanese-style cafe with the concept of "wheat" and "anko"!
"Komugi to, Anko." is a traditional Japanese cafe where you can enjoy "anko bread," a type of bread that is full of Ukiha's charm. (Yoshii-cho, Ukiha City)
"Komugi to, Anko" opened in April 2024 in Yoshii-cho, Ukiha City.
This is an old-style cafe where you can enjoy bread made with Ukiha wheat and specially made bean paste.
They sell a wide variety of breads, including their signature [An Shokupan], and also have a great value drink set menu available exclusively for dine-in customers.
The building, which served as a community center and played a central role in the local community, has been partially renovated while retaining its original Japanese atmosphere.
Apparently all of the shoji screens in the hallway leading from the entrance to the store were pasted by hand.
The relaxing atmosphere made me want to stay for a while.
Also, since it was originally a community center, it seems to be visited by people of all ages, from children to the elderly who live in the surrounding area.
Being able to enjoy the local community together is one of the experiences that can only be had here, unlike other tourist destinations.
Fluffy and chewy! "Specially made Anko Bread" made with plenty of specially made anko
The recommended "An Shokupan" (1 loaf for 1,440 yen, 5 slices for 480 yen) is made with homemade dough using wheat from Ukiha, kneaded with a generous amount of specially made anko (bean paste).
The red bean paste is a gentle-tasting, whole bean paste sourced from a long-established mochi shop in Ukiha that was founded 57 years ago.
The bread baked in the shop every day has a fluffy yet dense texture.
The perfect amount of sweetness, graininess, and chewy softness of the bean paste are irresistible.
It was soft all the way through to the outside, and the dough and bean paste were sweet, so it was delicious even without adding anything.
This is the eat-in menu item "Anko Butter Toast" (550 yen each, 1,100 yen with a drink set).
The "An Shokupan" is topped with specially made bean paste and thickly sliced butter. The butter is melted, so it soaks into the bean paste and the dough.
The soft and chewy dough goes perfectly with the sweetness of the red bean paste and butter toppings.
The bean paste wasn't too sweet, so it was so delicious I couldn't stop eating it.
In addition to the "Anko Butter Toast," there are three other types of Eton menu items. We will introduce the other two types as well.
This is "Anko Twist" (450 yen each, 900 yen with a drink set).
The light and fluffy dough is mixed with specially made bean paste, and the delicious flavor of the bean paste fills your mouth.
This is the "An Butter Sandwich" (450 yen each, 900 yen with a drink set).
The "An Shokupan" is sandwiched with bean paste and butter, then pressed and baked in a special machine. It is quickly baked while being steamed, so the original fluffy and chewy texture of the dough is preserved.
The outside was crispy and the inside was chewy. The butter melted and spread all over the cake, and the delicious taste of the bean paste and butter spread throughout the cake the moment you bite into it. It was irresistible.
The recommended set drink is the coffee made by Ukiha's popular coffee shop, Zelkova Coffee, to go with the bread at Komugi to Anko.
Because it is a French press, the oils and bitterness of the coffee are extracted as is, which harmonizes well with the sweetness of the bean paste, creating a great balance.
"Ukiha" has many stylish cafes and is a recommended spot for cafe hopping.
Why not stop by and enjoy some bread and coffee? (Text by chippachapus)
