A luxurious meal filled with Saga beef! A delicious beef curry lunch served at a hidden cafe (Minami-ku, Fukuoka City)

Hello! We are Taiki Beef Curry, and we are always searching for delicious curry!

The first post is about my beloved beef curry.

We would like to introduce you to a beef curry made with plenty of Saga beef, which can be enjoyed at Heiwa Kakurega Cafe in Minami-ku, Fukuoka City.

Cafe MAKI, quietly located in a quiet residential area (Heiwa, Minami-ku, Fukuoka City)

Cafe MAKI is about a 7-minute walk from the Nishitetsu bus stop "Heiwa 3-chome" or about a 20-minute walk from Nishitetsu Hirao Station.

I walked but would recommend taking the bus or car.

I heard that you could eat some special beef curry there, so I arrived there feeling excited.

As the sign says, pets are allowed.

I open the front door (it feels just like home).

Classical music plays in the background, the interior is decorated with tasteful furniture, and the scent of mosquito coils is relaxing and comforting.

Although not pictured, we also have a Shiba Inu named Lou in the shop. He is a quiet and intelligent dog.

"Mama's Beef Curry" - the deliciousness of a dish made with great care and effort stands out!

Although the menu says it is open until 9 p.m., Cafe MAKI is currently open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. As a cafe and bar, in addition to lunch, they also offer coffee, tea, wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages, as well as snacks.

I visited for lunch on this day.

In addition to the much-anticipated "Mama's Beef Curry" (soup and salad included, 1,000 yen), the lunch menu also includes "Mama's Whimsical Lunch" (miso soup and small side dish included, 1,200 yen) and "Beef Stew (Wagyu)" (salad included, 2,000 yen).

This time, I had walked a lot and was hungry, so I ordered "Mama's Beef Curry W" (1,500 yen).

First, salad and soup are brought out.

Salad of cabbage, onion, baby leaves, cucumber and tomato.

Fresh onions are not spicy but have a strong sweetness. It is simply seasoned with oil, vinegar, salt, and black pepper.

The soup is a comforting onion soup.

As I continued eating, I smelled curry coming from the kitchen.

I remember when I was a child at home, I would feel incredibly happy if the smell of curry wafted in the air in the evening.

This is "Mama's Beef Curry W".

The curry has a strong beef flavor and is simply presented with white rice and pickled radish.

The sparkling surface of the curry water gives you a sense of its deliciousness, made with great care and effort.

The mellow curry is extremely rich and flavorful, yet not heavy with fat, making it impressively easy to eat.

The secret to this deliciousness is to slowly fry a large amount of onions until they are caramelized, and then add a generous 40g of garlic, ginger, and butter.

The best part is that this huge amount of beef is luxuriously made from Saga beef.

This volume, generous amount of Saga beef, and carefully prepared curry is an incredible deal at just 1,500 yen including tax.

*The regular size is 1,000 yen. By the way, the W size is twice the normal amount, so the math doesn't add up!

Enjoy chatting with the owner

It was a very hot day and the shop was relaxed, so I had a short chat with the owner while enjoying my "Original Blend" (400 yen).

Cafe MAKI Coffee

The owner originally ran a bar called "Club MAKI" in Nakasu as a hostess, and it is said that the name "Cafe MAKI" is a remnant of that.

We heard a lot of stories from her time as a club mama, about her beloved dog Lou, and about a customer who happened to be visiting from the Kanto region who became a fan of Cafe MAKI's food and comfortable atmosphere and now comes every year.

It was a very relaxing space, with a nostalgic feeling like returning to my parents' home.

Cafe MAKI is located in a place that is by no means easily accessible.

However, only those who overcome this hurdle can enjoy this beef curry, which is packed with many special touches.

Please give it a try. (Text by Taiki Beef Curry)
