The fluffy shaved ice is so popular you'll be surprised! A traditional Japanese cafe in Kurume worth the trip

Hello. I am Yorimichi, the owner of the blog "Yorimichi's Fukuoka Introduction," which introduces delicious restaurants in Fukuoka.

When the weather gets hot, the first thing you want to eat is shaved ice.

What I would like to recommend is the shaved ice at the old-style Japanese-style cafe in Daizenji-cho, Kurume City.

Enjoy fluffy and delicate milk shaved ice! A traditional Japanese cafe with a great atmosphere, "QQQ KURUME" (Daizenji-cho, Kurume City)

QQQ KURUME is a traditional Japanese cafe located near the Otsuka-Gongenzuka Tomb, about a 15-minute walk from Nishitetsu Daizenji Station and a 3-minute walk from the Nishitetsu bus stop Otsuka. The cafe started out as a Japanese sweets shop in Osaka and specializes in shaved ice with a new texture.

The interior of the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. Antique organs that were originally used by the owner of the building are also on display, making you feel like you've traveled back in time.

In addition to the large table in the center, there are also tables that can accommodate 2 to 3 people.

Let's sit down and take a look at the menu. The logo is really cute. It makes me chuckle.

I tried the "shaved ice" ice dessert at "QQQ KURUME" last year and became addicted to it. It is made by freezing milk in a special machine and turning it into a fluffy powder, giving it a strange texture.

In addition to standard flavors such as "Brown Sugar Kinako Kintoki" (800 yen) and "Strawberry Milk" (850 yen), there are also limited edition flavors available each season.

There are also great value "Drink Sets" (+200 yen) and "Japanese Sweets + Drink Sets" (+350 yen) that you can add to your favorite shaved ice.

Besides shaved ice, there is also a wide selection of Japanese sweets and rice cakes, not to be missed.

It's like eating cold air! Try two delicious types of shaved ice

First, I ordered the "Uji Matcha Kintoki" (850 yen). It is a matcha milk ice topped with bittersweet matcha. It is served with red bean paste, popped rice cakes, and rice dumplings.

Can you tell from the picture? The volume is bugged.

You might be worried that eating such a huge portion will give you a tingly head, but it doesn't feel tingly at all! Perhaps this is the true essence of milk ice.

The fluffy texture is like eating cold air, and the melt-in-your-mouth texture is so light you'll wonder, "Huh? Did I just eat that?" You can enjoy it for a long time. It goes without saying that it goes well with red bean paste.

The texture of the dumplings makes them a great place to take a break.

Next up is the "Blueberry & Mascarpone" (850 yen), a seasonal limited edition flavor that has been available since April and is popular for its appearance and taste. It will be available until stocks run out.

It is topped with a generous amount of homemade berry sauce and the logo cookie is cute.

You won't be able to stop eating it as you alternate between the simple, refreshing milk ice and the rich sauce! The rich mascarpone cream is a great accent.

The sauce has a strong fruity flavor, so it's very satisfying.

Must-try "Hitotsubu Daifuku"

Although my main focus was the shaved ice, I can't leave without talking about the "Bite-sized Daifuku (pack of 5)" (500 yen, drink set 700 yen).

From the left, the set includes "Oimoyan (sweet potato paste)", "Chestnut Daifuku", "Tsutsumi Mitarashi", "Yuzu Daifuku", and "Two-colored Dango". They are small and cute.

The Yuzu Daifuku is not only pleasing to the eye, but also has a strong yuzu aroma and is delicious.

"Tsutsumi Mitarashi" has the store's logo branded on it.

The mitarashi flavor melts in your mouth and the more you chew it, the sweeter it gets. It tastes even better when paired with tea.

"Oimoyan" is filled with sweet potato paste, and the aroma you get when you bite into the gyuhi is irresistible! Before you take your first bite, be sure to take a deep breath.

There are many drinks to choose from for the set, but my personal recommendation is "Gyokuro" which enhances the flavor of the dessert and is really delicious.
