Recommended by a bread nerd who travels around Japan eating bread! New products and hidden gems from popular Fukuoka shops

Hello. This is the Daily Bread Diary of a bread nerd living in Fukuoka who travels around Japan eating bread.

Amid the recent bread boom, bagels have become increasingly popular and are now seen more frequently in bakeries.

This time, I went to check out this extremely popular store after hearing that they had started selling bagels!

A popular shop known for its pistachio cream buns! "Boulangerie Patisserie E-ji & Co." (Omiya, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)

Boulangerie Patisserie E-ji&co. is located about an 8-minute walk from Nishitetsu Hirao Station and about a 9-minute walk from Yakuin Station.

When you think of "E-ji&co.", you think of "Pistachio Cream Bun." Many people may have seen it on Instagram.

The crunchy, crispy croissants are sandwiched with fresh seasonal fruit and rich, smooth pistachio cream, creating a delicious treat that is unique to E-ji & Co., which is both a boulangerie and a patisserie.

It's no wonder it has been loved for so many years! Of course, I buy it every season!

This is the "Pistachio Cream Bun with American Cherries" (600 yen) that was on sale on the day I went. The large, juicy American cherries that pop in your mouth are perfect for summer.

I was so curious about the bagels from E-ji & co....as a bagel nerd, I just couldn't sit still!

A wide variety of bagels available - sweet, savory, and even sandwiches!

Most of the bread in the front row is bagels! A sight that bagel lovers will love.

These days, bagels come in a variety of shapes and textures, but the ones from "E-ji & Co." are more like bagels, with a firm, plump texture.

There were flavors available such as "Chocolate and orange bagel," "Cranberry and cream cheese bagel," fig and cream cheese bagel," and "Apricot and cream cheese bagel" (340 yen each).

This is the "An Butter" (340 yen) that I purchased. It is made with bean paste made from Hokkaido's Shumari azuki beans, unsalted butter, and topped with Guérande salt.

The crust (bread's outer layer) is nicely browned and fragrant! The dough is chewy yet crisp, and the filling has a simple flavor.

The bean paste has a strong grainy texture, which is great for those who like bean paste with chunks. The butter sandwiched is unsalted, but it is seasoned with a strong hint of Guérande salt, so it is also recommended for those who are avid fans of salted bean paste butter!

There were many other bagels that caught my eye, so I'd like to return.

A hidden gem! Freshly made homemade custard cream buns, filled to order

I still have some top picks!

This "Cream Bun" (300 yen) is quietly placed on the shelf.

This is a hidden gem!

Once you place your order, they fill it with plenty of homemade custard. Just look at this overflowing custard cream!

The custard inside the thin and fluffy dough has a milky taste that goes down easy, like "custard you can drink."

Be sure to try our freshly stuffed cream buns!
