Great prices too! Bake your own charcoal-grilled dumplings and crispy mochi brulee warabimochi (Yame)
Hello♪ I'm chippachapus and I love going to cafes.
This time, we will introduce a restaurant that opened in Yame in April 2024 where you can enjoy authentic "charcoal grilled dumplings" and the innovative "warabi mochi"!
Totori no Dango (Yame City): A reasonably priced, authentic sweets specialty store
"Totori's Dango" is a cafe that operates during lunch hours at "Primitive Yaki Sakaba Totori" in Honmachi, Yame City.
You can enjoy reasonably priced Japanese sweets such as "your own grilled dumplings" made over authentic charcoal fire, "colorful dumplings" with a wide variety of fillings, and chewy "warabi mochi."
The restaurant has a counter with an irori hearth and a tatami room where you can relax. The tatami room is a private room.
Crispy and creamy "Authentic Charcoal Grilled Dango Set" & "Colorful Dango" where you can enjoy 5 different kinds of fillings at once
First, we would like to introduce two new menu items that were revamped in June.
Corner
The first is "Sumibi" (888 yen), where you cook it yourself. *Reservation required by the day before.
The set includes five rice dumplings, four types of bean paste to choose from eight varieties, mitarashi, warabi mochi, and Yame green tea.
The dumplings are original and are carefully baked over the hearth at each seat until they reach your desired color.
It is grilled over charcoal, so the outside is crispy and fragrant, and the inside is soft.
Even if you eat it without adding anything, it has a slight sweetness and is delicious. The texture that seems to melt in your mouth was also a new sensation.
There are eight types of bean paste, clockwise from the top left: "Coffee bean paste," "Sakura bean paste," "Black sesame bean paste," "Yame green tea bean paste," "Soybean flour bean paste," "Hyuga summer bean paste," "Black bean paste," and "Custard." *The types of bean paste change depending on the season.
Of course, you can enjoy one type of bean paste, but we also recommend combining several types.
The custard was rich and sticky, and the cherry blossom filling had a gorgeous, fluffy flavor that spread across the tongue.
The deliciousness of the black bean paste and Yame green tea bean paste complemented the slight sweetness of the dumplings perfectly.
The "warabi mochi" that came with the set was generously sprinkled with kinako, giving it a chewy texture and a fragrant flavor.
Colorful
The second is "Irodori" (888 yen each), which allows you to compare five different types of bean paste at once. *The bean paste changes depending on the season.
There are two types of sets, A and B, both of which come with warabimochi and Yame green tea.
This is "Irodori A".
In the photo below, from left, purple sweet potato paste, black bean paste, and hyuganatsu bean paste.
The purple sweet potato paste had a gentle sweet potato flavor, while the Hyuganatsu paste had a pulpy, sour, refreshing taste.
The black sesame bean paste had a strong sesame flavor, and the Yame tea tiramisu combined Yame tea with custard, giving it a well-balanced taste of bitterness and sweetness.
This is "Irodori B".
In the photo below, from left, cherry blossom paste, green tea paste, and black bean paste.
In the photo below, from left, tiramisu bean paste and mugwort brulee.
The bitter taste of the tiramisu filling and the sweetness of the custard go perfectly together.
The mugwort brulee is a crunchy mugwort dumpling filled with plenty of brulee custard. It is made with cane sugar, so it is smooth and has a good texture.
The dumplings were bite-sized and easy to eat, and I was able to enjoy the different flavors and enjoy them all the way to the end without getting bored.
Another feature is that the texture of the dumplings at "Sumibi" and "Irodori" are different, so you can enjoy comparing them.
Take-out only! We also recommend the "Yaki Mitarashi Dango" that you'll want to eat more than one of!
We also have "Yaki Mitarashi Dango" (180 yen each) available for takeout only.
It was crisp on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. The sweet and spicy mitarashi sauce went perfectly with it, making it addictively delicious.
The food is cooked on a large hearth that can be seen from the counter seats, so if you're lucky, you may even be able to see it being cooked.
Crispy and chewy texture! A new type of sweet, "Brulée Warabimochi"
Next up is the innovative dessert "Brulee Warabimochi" (500 yen), which combines crispy brulee and chewy warabimochi.
The inside is made with real bracken powder and is a traditional style warabimochi.
The warabimochi is made fresh in the store every day and has an irresistible soft, chewy texture.
When you eat this warabimochi with brulee, it creates a strange texture that makes it hard to tell whether it's brulee or warabimochi. The bottom is covered with black sesame paste.
It was like a cake and a very luxurious dessert.
This is "Yamecha Brulee Warabimochi" (500 yen).
From top to bottom: brulee, warabimochi, and Yame green tea bean paste.
The aroma and rich flavor of Yame green tea leaves spread throughout my mouth and it was delicious.
This is "Tiramisu Brulee Warabimochi" (500 yen).
There was a layer of coffee bean paste at the bottom, giving it a slightly bitter taste.
"New style warabimochi" enjoyed with chilled syrup
The last item we would like to introduce is "SUI" (680 yen each), which is available only during the summer.
The one in the foreground is Uji matcha and the one in the background is brown sugar syrup.
The cool syrup contains thin, cut warabi mochi, red bean paste, and dumplings.
The brown syrup is made from Okinawan brown sugar and has a rich sweetness. The warabi mochi was chewy and chewy.
It comes with a side of "kinako" so you can add it to your meal if you like.
The Uji matcha was very delicious, with a gentle matcha sweetness and astringency that was just right.
The contents of both the dango and warabimochi change with the seasons, so you can enjoy a variety of treats every season.
