[Tenjin Watanabe Street Food Stall] Tempura Stall Tenichi

It is no exaggeration to say that Tempura stand Tenichi has witnessed the changes that Tenjin has undergone since it was founded in 1962. The previous owner started the business at the age of 27 together with the female owner, and it was handed over to the younger brother of the previous owner, who continues to welcome many customers today.

The location is a 1-minute walk from Exit 11 of Tenjin Station on the Subway Kuko Line. It is in front of the Mitsubishi UFJ Bank Fukuoka Branch.

The most recommended dish at Tenichi is, without a doubt, the tempura. Apparently, in the past, there were many food stalls that served udon instead of ramen, and the store delivered tempura to nearby udon stalls.

The tempura, deep-fried crisply at high temperatures using four heat sources, comes in two sets: "Assorted Set A" (1,400 yen), which is an assortment of three shrimp, fish, and vegetables, and "Assorted Set B" (1,100 yen), which is an assortment of two shrimp and vegetables. The contents of each set change depending on what is in stock, so be sure to check them out when you visit.

In addition, the "Oden" (150 yen each) is prepared daily and is packed with ingredients such as the standard ingredients, tofu, potato, taro, hanpen (fish cake) added at the request of a customer who came to Fukuoka for work, and maruten (fried tempura), a dish typical of Fukuoka.

At the end of the day, you can stop by for a quick bite of tempura or a bowl of oden flavored with the gentle flavor of bonito stock, and take a moment to relax.

The warmth of Tenichi, a family-run business, attracts a wide range of customers, and in the early hours, families with children visit, as well as local regulars and tourists (check out the restaurant's Instagram). Enjoy a conversation with the proprietress, who says, "The secret to staying healthy is being able to talk to customers at close range."
