The perfect balance of sweet and bitter... ♡ Lawson's three new "matcha sweets"

I'm Masayo Sakamoto, a writer who loves convenience store sweets.

This time, we will introduce three new "matcha sweets" from Lawson that will be on sale from April 23, 2024! This is a lineup that is perfect for the new tea season ♡

1: Enjoy the deep and elegant flavor! "Matcha Financier Cake made with Uji matcha from Kyoto Prefecture"

First up is the "Matcha Financier Cake Made with Uji Matcha from Kyoto Prefecture" (225 yen).

This is a doughnut-shaped matcha financier sandwiched with matcha cream. It uses Uji matcha, which brings out its elegant bitterness.

The cream overflows from the dough, showing that it's full of cream. The lace-like appearance is also cute!

The matcha financier has the lightness that is unique to almond powder, yet is moist and has a slightly bitter aftertaste.

The matcha cream has a mature taste with a milky sweetness followed by the richness of matcha and just the right amount of bitterness.

When you bite into them together, the rich aroma of matcha fills your mouth, creating a luxurious feeling. This is a dish that allows you to fully enjoy the charm of matcha amidst its sweetness.

2: The perfect match of sweet and bitter! "Matcha Chocolate Tart"

This is the "Matcha Chocolate Tart" (246 yen).

A Japanese-Western fusion tart that combines matcha and chocolate.

When I took it out of the bag, it was in a plastic tray.

When I cut it open, the matcha cream was super soft! Underneath was whipped cream and matcha chocolate, creating a beautiful layered look.

The tart dough is crispy and fragrant, with a rich buttery flavor and a strong sweetness.

The matcha chocolate has white chocolate mixed in, and the gentle milky sweetness and bitterness of the matcha are a perfect match! It's a sticky, addictive flavor.

The balance between the light and refreshing whipped cream and the fluffy matcha cream is exquisite, and the red beans on top add a nice accent.

It was a filling and very satisfying dish.
