A popular bakery from Hokkaido is coming to Fukuoka City for the first time!
Let's check it out.
The first store in Fukuoka City! "Penguin Bakery Hashimoto Ekimae Store" opens on Friday, April 19, 2024 (Hashimoto, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City)
This time, Penguin Bakery, a bakery from Hokkaido, is attracting attention as it is making its first appearance in Fukuoka City.
Tomorrow, April 19th (Friday), "Penguin Bakery Hashimoto Ekimae Store" will open in Hashimoto, Nishi Ward!
The concept of this shop is "bread made using wheat grown in Hokkaido that can be enjoyed every day by people of all ages, from children to the elderly."
The store always has about 80 different items on display, with the aim of "getting customers excited about discovering new breads."
The shop's appeal is its wide variety of products, including the fluffy and chewy "Flying Bread," which is popular among its fans, as well as sweet and savory breads and local Hokkaido dishes. No matter when you visit, there is always a lineup of "freshly baked" bread.
They have 46 stores across the country, and are so popular that they have seen long lines since opening day!
Must-buy items! Recommended "hot items" from the store
With 80 different varieties, you'll definitely have a hard time deciding which one to buy! So, we'll introduce the store's recommended products.
"Bread that doesn't fly"
First up is the "Flying Bread" (1 loaf 370 yen, 2 loaves (1 stick) 700 yen). This bread is made without any eggs, dairy products, honey, butter or margarine.
Because it's bread that you eat every day, we want to prioritize not only taste but also quality. With that in mind, we arrived at this masterpiece using 100% Hokkaido-grown "Yumechikara" wheat, after much trial and error.
"Curry bread fondue" "Shrimp curry bread fondue"
Next is the "Curry Bread Fondue" (290 yen), in which special curry roux and cheese fondue ooze out from within a crispy batter, and the "Shrimp Curry Bread Fondue" (360 yen), which is curry roux with sweet shrimp oil added and filled with whole plump shrimp.
Both curry breads have won the highest gold award * at the Curry Pan Grand Prix (R) (sponsored by the Japan Curry Pan Association), as well as other gold awards in succession, earning them the title of "Japan's best."
*'Shrimp Curry Bread Fondue' won the Grand Gold Award in the 'Variety Category' in 2022, and 'Curry Bread Fondue' won the Grand Gold Award in the 'East Japan Fried Curry Bread Category' in 2021, among others.
The chewy dough, similar to mochi, is coated in batter and deep-fried until crispy in our store every day.
"Zangi skewers" and other side dishes with a local Hokkaido flavor
What's more, you can also purchase local Hokkaido dishes!
There are also plenty of side dishes that are typical of Hokkaido, such as the [Sangi Kushi], which has won the gold medal twice at the 13th and 15th [Karaage Grand Prix] (sponsored by the Japan Fried Chicken Association), and the Hokkaido specialty [Toge no Ageimo], which is a whole deep-fried potato.
What did you think? Please come and visit us to buy some freshly baked bread and Hokkaido gourmet food. (Text by ARNE Editorial Department)
