A thorough review of [MUJI] 4 types of popular "Kimbap" with increased ingredients after renewal
I'm Sumire, a writer who is addicted to MUJI food.
This time, we compared four different types of Kimbap, a Korean-style seaweed roll, a frozen food that is extremely popular at MUJI.
This product ranked first in the MUJI Online Store's popular product ranking (frozen food category, number of online store orders from March 15 to March 24, 2024). In February 2024, the product was renewed with an increased amount of ingredients and a revised balance of ingredients and rice.
It is already divided into 8 portions, so you can eat it as is, and it's great that you don't have to wash any more dishes. We'll also show you how to defrost it!
How to Thaw Kimbap
To cook MUJI's kimbap, open the bag by 1 to 2 cm and heat it in a 500W microwave for the specified time of 3 minutes to 3 minutes and 10 seconds, which is set for each product.
Once heated, leave it in the microwave for about 15 minutes and it will defrost completely and be ready to eat.
If any parts remain unthawed, try heating for an additional 10 to 20 seconds at a time while checking the condition.
1: Kimbap Bulgogi: A favorite among all generations!
First up is the most popular dish, "Kimbap Bulgogi" (590 yen).
This dish is filled with plenty of bulgogi, a classic Korean dish.
Inside, there are five kinds of ingredients, including sweet and spicy beef, vegetables such as carrots, and rolled egg.
It's colorful and appetizing.
It's filled with sweet and spicy beef, so it's very satisfying to eat! The texture of the carrots and radishes adds an accent to the dish, making it surprisingly light to eat.
It doesn't have much of a spicy taste, so it can be enjoyed by the whole family, from children to adults!
2: Enjoy the taste of the ingredients! "Kimbap Samgyeopsal"
This is "Kimbap Samgyeopsal" (590 yen).
Based on the Korean-style barbecue dish samgyeopsal, the ingredients are seasoned with salt and sesame oil.
In addition to pork, the nori roll contains five other ingredients, including carrots, eggs, and spinach.
The simple seasoning brings out the flavor of each ingredient and is delicious!
Of the four types we tried this time, this one had the lightest flavor and was the easiest to eat, so we recommend it for small children as well.
3: Enjoy the texture! "Kimbap Vegetable Namul"
This is "Kimbap Vegetable Namul" (590 yen).
It contains four kinds of namul, including spinach and carrots. It is finished with black rice, making it a dish that will tickle the health-conscious heart.
The color of the black rice contrasts with the vegetables and eggs, making it visually vibrant.
The namul is packed with the delicious flavors of sesame oil and chicken, and goes perfectly with rice and seaweed!
The crispness of the bean sprouts and the popping texture of the black rice add a nice accent to the dish, making it a flavor that you will never tire of, no matter how much you eat it.
It's delicious as is, of course, but adding a little gochujang gives it a different, punchy flavor!
4. Rich and addictive! "Kimbap Cheese Dakgalbi"
Lastly, we have "Kimbap Cheese Dakgalbi" (590 yen).
Inspired by the Korean dish Dakgalbi, this dish is made with chicken and vegetables stir-fried in a sauce containing gochujang and mixed with cheese, all wrapped up in a generous amount of nori rolls!
The rice is also mixed with the same sauce, giving it a rich flavor.
The sweet and spicy ingredients are combined with the flavor of cheese to create a rich yet mild taste.
Of the four types, this was the most satisfying. The appetizing flavor and color of the sauce make this a dish that will make you want to keep eating!
MUJI's kimbap allows you to enjoy different flavors for each type. It's also perfect for picnics. Be sure to check it out! (Text by sumire)
