[Hakata Station] Lunch is also great! A popular Chinese restaurant with a great view, "Kuuten" (Fukuoka City)

Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.

"City Dining Kuten" is a restaurant zone on the 9th and 10th floors of "JR Hakata City." The very popular Chinese restaurant "Shisen Hanten Hakata" on the 10th floor was renovated and reopened on March 2, 2024.

Enjoy a spectacular view! Famous Sichuan restaurant "Shisen Hanten Hakata" (Hakataeki Chuo-gai, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City)

"Shisen Hanten" was founded in 1958 by chef Chen Kenmin, who is said to have been the first to popularize Sichuan cuisine in Japan. The belief that "cooking is love" was passed down to the second-generation owner, Chen Kenichi, widely known as the "Iron Chef," and now to the third-generation owner, Chen Kentaro, and the restaurant is now a popular chain with branches both in Japan and overseas.

The Hakata store, which opened at the same time as the opening of JR Hakata City in 2011, has undergone a complete redesign of its exterior in this renovation. The opening has been made wider, giving the store a bright and open atmosphere even from outside.

The interior of the restaurant is impressive with a large glass window that covers the entire back side. This is the only restaurant in "Kuuten" that offers a view to the east of Hakata Station!

You can see the Shinkansen directly below and planes arriving and departing from Fukuoka Airport in the sky. Kids will love it too!

The tables are spaced far apart so that diners can relax and enjoy their meal without worrying about those around them.

The space in the back can be separated by a partition and used as a private room.

Hakata-exclusive menu also available! Enjoy a selection of exquisite authentic Sichuan cuisine

Don't miss the changes to the main menu, such as the introduction of a Hakata-exclusive menu using locally produced Wagyu beef and vegetables from Kyushu! I'll show you some photos from the tasting event I attended before the reopening (the photos show different sizes than the usual servings).

The first thing to look out for is the Hakata-only "Kyushu Kuroge Wagyu Beef Loin - Vacuum-Prepared Chinjao Loin" (4,200 yen *photo is for tasting).

The Kyushu-produced Kuroge Wagyu beef is vacuum-cooked at a low temperature of 60 degrees, rather than fried, giving it a vibrant pink color. It has a melt-in-the-mouth texture, and its refined flavor fills the entire mouth!

The "Nigiyaka Homemade Scorched Seafood Rice" (2,800 yen *photo is for tasting) is a dish that also comes with a performance at the table.

When you pour piping hot seafood sauce over Sichuan Restaurant's original homemade scorched rice, a delicious sizzling sound and aroma will be heard! The combination of the sweetness, aroma, and texture of the scorched rice was exquisite.

I was also impressed when I tried the "Sichuan specialty, deep-fried smoked duck" (2,800 yen with steamed bread *photo is for tasting)! It is a time-consuming and delicious dish in which duck meat seasoned with tea leaves is smoked and then deep-fried. You can smell the delicious smoked aroma even before you put it in your mouth, and the soft texture and strong flavor were very delicious.

"Shark Fin and Crab Miso Braised" (2,600 yen *The photo is for tasting) is full of the rich flavor of crab miso! The firm texture of the shark fin was indescribably luxurious.

Of course, you can't miss the signature dish of "Sichuan Restaurant," "Chen Kenichi's Mapo Tofu" (2,000 yen), created by the first generation and evolved by the second generation.

The fragrant Japanese pepper flavor gradually increases as you eat it! It's not just spicy, it's also full of spice flavor and richness, giving you a taste of the depth of Chinese cuisine. It's also irresistible when eaten on top of rice.

As for drinks, be sure to check out the Hakata-exclusive "Homemade Ginger Ale" (750 yen). It uses ginger from "Yama no Noen" in Sawara Ward, Fukuoka City.

It's not too sweet and has a strong ginger flavor, so it goes perfectly with Chinese food.

Check out the courses too

In addition to a la carte dishes, courses are also an essential part of Chinese cuisine.

This is the "Premium Lunch" (3,000 yen). It comes with a main dish, four side dishes, shark fin soup, rice, and dessert. For the main dish, you can choose one from "Chen Kenichi's Mapo Tofu," "Shrimp with Chili Sauce," "Stir-fried Beef and Green Peppers," "Stir-fried Pork and Pork with Sauce," "Fried Chicken with Sweet and Sour Sauce," and "Stir-fried Squid with XO Sauce."

The recommended dinner dish is the "Sichuan Course" (8,800 yen).

The menu includes eight dishes: "Pickled vegetables from Kyushu", "Three types of Chinese hors d'oeuvres carefully selected by the chef", "Brewed whole shark fin with plenty of collagen", "New-style chinjaoroshi ~ Kyushu-produced black wagyu beef sirloin vacuum-cooked ~", "Large shrimp in chili sauce ~ served with salad and steamed bread ~", "Homemade scorched rice ~ Feel the sound of seafood sauce ~", "One type of rice - Chen Kenichi's mapo tofu, dandan noodles, or twice-cooked pork fried rice", and "Sichuan specialty "Bingfen" and a dessert platter recommended by the chef". It's a luxurious meal where you can enjoy popular dishes all at once.

The new and improved Sichuan Restaurant Hakata is even more appealing. Please come and visit us. (Text by Aya Hakata.)
