Enjoy matcha! [Ministop] Three fluffy and creamy "rich matcha sweets"

I'm Masayo Sakamoto, a writer who loves convenience store sweets.

Spring is the season for more matcha sweets!

Starting March 5, 2024, Ministop will be offering sweets made with Tenkuu no Matcha (R) from Oyanagizu Seiichi Shoten, a tea manufacturer in Shizuoka Prefecture, a region famous for its tea.

"Tenkuu no Matcha (R)", which is painstakingly grown in mountainous tea plantations, is characterized by its deep sweetness and elegant aroma.

Here are three luxurious sweets that matcha lovers can't miss.

1: Rich and authentic! "Sky Matcha Chiffon Cake"

First up is the "Sky Matcha Chiffon Cake" (321 yen).

The moment you open the lid, you'll be struck by the beautiful gradation of green!

The matcha chiffon cake is topped with matcha cream and matcha powder.

I thought I would try stabbing it with a fork right away, but it was so fluffy I couldn't pierce it properly!

I scooped it up with a spoon and tried eating it.

As you can imagine from the dark color of the batter, this chiffon cake has a very rich matcha flavor!

The moment you put it in your mouth, the fragrant aroma of matcha spreads softly, giving it a sophisticated taste.

The center of the dough is filled with a thick matcha custard sauce, and the subtle sweetness of the custard is followed by the bitter taste of the matcha.

The matcha cream is light and easy to eat! The overall balance is excellent.

This is also recommended for people who want to eat rich matcha.

2: Very satisfying! "Happy Crepe Sky Matcha"

This is the heartwarmingly named "Happy Crepe Sky Matcha" (213 yen).

This is a Japanese crepe filled with matcha whipped cream, matcha sauce, bean paste, and shiratama (rice flour dumplings) in an easy-to-eat package.

When you cut it in half, you can see that it's packed full with the filling just like in the original packaging! The green color of the matcha whipped cream really stands out.

The matcha whipped cream is sweet, while the matcha sauce has a strong bitterness, creating a delicious combination of different matchas. It also pairs perfectly with the elegantly sweet bean paste!

The rice flour dumplings are chewy and have a great presence, and the crepe dough also has a chewy texture, making it very satisfying to eat.

Another great thing about it is that you can eat it without getting your hands dirty!

3: Enjoy the cream! "Sky Matcha Cream Puff"

Lastly, we have the "Sky Matcha Cream Puff" (181 yen).

This cream puff is filled with plenty of whipped cream and custard cream blended with "Tenkuu no Matcha (R)".

When you take it out of the bag and hold it in your hand, the cream is so soft that the bottom of the choux pastry ripples! If you cut it carefully so as not to spill it...

As I expected, it was filled with thick cream.

One bite and it's so smooth it melts in your mouth! You can enjoy the refreshing taste of the whipped cream and the mellowness of the custard, followed by the rich flavor of matcha. The cream has a light texture but is also quite heavy, so it goes well with the thick choux pastry.

The matcha cream is not too bitter, so it should be easy for children to eat.

The three dishes were very satisfying in both appearance and texture. Please check them out at Ministop. (Text by Masayo Sakamoto)
