Exquisite Italian food eaten with chopsticks! A traditional Japanese restaurant with a great atmosphere (Yukuhashi City)

2024.05.06

I live with my three rescued cats and my flying wife, and I'm Dan!, who introduces popular spots in the Fukuoka area.

This time, we will introduce an Italian restaurant renovated from a traditional Japanese house that is over 400 years old.

Italian restaurant "Kominka Agura Italian" (Yukuhashi City) - A traditional Japanese house built in the early Edo period with a great atmosphere!

The restaurant "Kominka Agura Italian" is located along Prefectural Route 28, a 3-minute drive from Minami-Yukuhashi Station on the JR Nippo Main Line.

This is a large old house located on the way by car from downtown Yukuhashi towards Chikujo-cho.

This old house is a historic building built in the early Edo period in Wajima city, Ishikawa prefecture, and was moved to Yukuhashi city about 40 years ago. After that, a kaiseki restaurant operated there for a while, but in 2016, "Kominka Koza Italian" took over and reopened after renovation.

The restaurant consists of three buildings, the main building, the annex, and the terrace, each with a different atmosphere, and can be used for a variety of occasions.

1st floor (main building)

The main floor on the first floor has high ceilings and an open feel, with both table and counter seating.

3rd floor attic (main building)

There is tatami seating on the mezzanine floor, and a beautiful attic with a gassho-style roof on the third floor. It is an otherworldly space where you can feel the weight of the 400-year-old building.

terrace

The terrace seats look nice on sunny days and are apparently very popular.

Separate

The annex is built like a tea room and has three private rooms.

This is a perfect space for important meals such as get-togethers and anniversaries.

In either case, be sure to make a reservation if you have a seat you want.

An exquisite Italian restaurant with the concept of "eating with chopsticks"

"Kominka Koza Italian" serves dishes that use an abundance of local ingredients, including seafood from the Suo-Nada Sea, as well as meat, vegetables, and fruit. This time, I visited for lunch.

This is the lunch menu. Meat dishes such as steak and hamburger,

Pasta and pizza,

The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, including luxurious combos.

The concept of all menu items is to eat with chopsticks.

My friend and I ordered the "Fresh Pasta Lunch" (2,398 yen) and the "Yukuhashi Steak Set" (single 200g, 2,398 yen).

Fresh pasta lunch

First, let's start with the "Fresh Pasta Lunch." This set includes an appetizer plate, pasta with a choice of three sauces (tomato, cream, or Japanese), coffee or tea, and dessert.

I chose the pasta with tomato sauce.

The appetizer plate is a small dish of elaborately prepared dishes. The contents change irregularly.

On this day, (clockwise from the top left of the photo), the menu consisted of roast beef, bread from the high-end bread specialist store "Kids and Weirds" (their stores are next door to each other!), salad, potato salad with choux pastry, chilled corn potage, and marinated seafood.

Next was pasta. The tomato sauce for this day was "Eggplant and Minced Meat Bolognese."

The chewy fresh pasta is mixed with the rich Bolognese sauce to create a delicious dish. Of course, you can eat it with chopsticks.

Desserts change on an irregular basis. On the day we visited, we had "Hojicha Pudding" served in a masu. It was so stylish and delicious!

Yukuhashi steak set

Next up is the "Yukuhashi Steak Set."

It comes with soup, salad, steak, rice or bread, and coffee or tea. You can choose from single (200g) for 2,398 yen, double (400g) for 3,718 yen, and triple (600g) for 4,895 yen (the photo below is a single).

It comes with two types of sauce (sweet soy sauce-based and Japanese style) and salt.

It is served rare, so you can cook it to your liking using the pellets (hot iron lumps) on the hot plate.

The meat was lean and tender, with a strong flavor and a delicious sauce, and I ate the whole thing in no time.

We also recommend putting the "lemon butter" served on a separate plate on top of the meat! It enhances the aroma and richness of the dish.

Take-out menu also available!

There is also an extensive take-out menu.

In addition to bento menu items such as the "Steak Bento" (1,700 yen), "Yakiniku Bento" (1,300 yen), "Agura Bento" (2,350 yen), "Stewed Hamburger Bento" (1,300 yen), and "Fried Chicken Bento" (980 yen), there is also a pre-prepared fresh pasta menu item, "Fresh Pasta Made at Home" (2 portions for 1,820 yen).

They also offer "Kuza Special Hors d'oeuvres" (starting from 3,240 yen for two people, reservation required) that can be made to suit your budget and number of people. The photo below is an example of the 5,400 yen hors d'oeuvre.

"We also welcome group use for memorial services, private parties, and other events. If you have a group of 10 or more we can provide a shuttle bus," says manager Masuda.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch on the terrace, or a leisurely dinner in the open, relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant, feeling the 440-year history of the building. Why not try some Italian food with chopsticks? (Text by Dan!)
