Worth a trip all the way from Fukuoka! "People line up before the store even opens" - Addictive and delicious ramen (Kitsuki City, Oita Prefecture)
I live with my three rescued cats and my flying wife, and I'm Dan!, who introduces popular spots in the Fukuoka area.
This time, we would like to introduce a ramen restaurant located near Usa Shrine in Oita Prefecture, next to Fukuoka Prefecture.
We recommend visiting before or after visiting Usa Shrine! Popular ramen shop "Ramen Shop Yamagaten" (Kitsuki City, Oita Prefecture) where there is a line even before the shop opens
I'm from Fukuoka, but I used to live in Tokyo.
I love the ramen shop called "Rasho," or "Ra-Sho," and I used to go there often, but then I suddenly realized, "I haven't been there at all since I came back to Fukuoka..." and when I looked for a nearby store, there wasn't one...!?
According to my research, there are about 300 stores nationwide, mainly in the Kanto region, but there are none in Fukuoka Prefecture. (By the way, there is a store with the same name and a similar sign, but it is a "different store" from this one.)
However, once you start thinking about it, you'll want to try it, so after some serious searching, I discovered a store in Oita Prefecture! As far as I can tell, it's the only one in Kyushu.
So I went there right away, but the first time I went, I gave up because there was a long line as it was lunchtime. This time, for the second time, I left Fukuoka early in the morning, visited Usa Shrine, and arrived at Ramen Shop right after it opened. It is about a 10-minute drive from Usa Shrine towards Beppu.
Now, this is the place we're looking for, Ramen Shop Yamagaten.
Look for the large sign along National Route 10.
After visiting Usa Shrine, we arrived at the shop just after 8:30.
The store opens at 9:30, so I arrived too early and decided to take a walk around the area while I waited. Around 9 o'clock, motorbikes and cars started arriving one after another, and people were gathering in front of the store.
As expected from "Rasho"!
I managed to get into the store at the front of the pack. I took some photos of the inside of the store first.
After this, the restaurant quickly fills up with Ramen fans.
Looking at the menu on the wall, in addition to the standard "Ramen" (from 700 yen), there is a rich lineup including "Spicy Miso Ramen" (from 900 yen), "Char Siu Ramen" (from 940 yen), "Green Onion Ramen" (from 850 yen), "Iwanori Ramen" (from 850 yen), and "Takana Ramen" (from 880 yen). There were also several dishes using kabosu, such as "Kabosu Tsukemen" (from 830 yen). As expected from Oita Prefecture!
All noodles are available in sizes of small (1 bowl), medium (1.5 bowls), and large (2 bowls). Small is the normal size.
Looking at the menu on the table, you can also order "fried chicken" from "Oita Usa Karaage Yu" (sold by weight starting from 2 pieces *Price guide: "boneless thigh" is 300 yen for 100g). It is served freshly fried, so it takes about 7 minutes.
You can also order fried chicken to go. By the way, there is a take-out window outside, so you can order without coming inside the store.
Addictive! Excellent ramen with plenty of back fat and pork bone soy sauce soup
Now, it's finally time for my long-awaited reunion with ramen. I think this is the ace of Ramen Shoten! It's the "Green Onion Ramen" (the photo shows the medium size, 950 yen).
The ramen comes with a mountain of slightly spicy green onions, which could be said to be the face of Ramen Shop.
The crunchiness is irresistible.
The soup is a soy sauce-based "back fat tonkotsu soy sauce" that is full of back fat but not too heavy. It is also known as Tokyo tonkotsu.
As soon as I took a bite, my brain remembered.
This soup is addictive. Delicious.
The yellowish medium-thick noodles (slightly thin) go well with the salty soup.
There is garlic and chili bean paste on the table, so we recommend changing the flavor halfway through.
There are many Larsho fans all over the country, so I'm sure there are some in Fukuoka too.
Whether you're a fan of ramen or not, why not give it a try? (Text by Dan!)
