Surprisingly delicious and changing your image! Enjoy the exquisite "brown rice" at this popular restaurant in Ropponmatsu (Fukuoka City)
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce a popular restaurant that opened in March 2023 in Tani, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City.
Sweet and chewy! "Polyfe Brown Rice (R)" specialty store "Genmai Roho" (Tani, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)
Genmai Roho is located in the area known as "Ura Ropponmatsu," about a six-minute walk from Ropponmatsu Station on the Nanakuma Subway Line.
This is a restaurant where you can enjoy carefully prepared brown rice dishes created by chef Lee Nami.
From Ropponmatsu intersection, head towards Yakuin (Jonan Line), turn right at the first traffic light, then turn left at the first corner a few dozen meters ahead and you will see it.
The restaurant has an elegant atmosphere even from the outside.
There is a small window at the entrance, and you can order takeout items such as rice balls and bento boxes from here.
There are five counter seats inside the restaurant. At the back is a glass-walled kitchen where you can see the cooking. The space was originally used as Lee's kitchen studio, but has since been renovated.
The signature dish here, "Brown Rice," is not just brown rice, but uses "Polyfe Brown Rice (R)" developed by Mr. Li. The bright purple color is eye-catching!
Nutritious brown rice from Saga Prefecture is blended with "ancient black rice" in a unique combination.
The brown rice is beautifully dyed using a manufacturing process that maximizes the polyphenols, a type of nutrient called anthocyanin, contained in "ancient black rice."
Even if you know that brown rice is rich in nutrients, some people may think that it is dry and difficult to eat. However, this "Polyfe Brown Rice (R)" has a chewy texture and you can taste the sweetness of the rice. It's delicious even when it's cold, and it has completely changed my concept of brown rice! I felt that a lot of effort has gone into making it delicious.
New menu from February! "Claypot Bibimbap" served in a hot claypot
At Genmai Rosho's eat-in area (11:30-16:00), you can enjoy traditional Korean home cooking along with brown rice.
This is the "Polyfe Brown Rice (R) and Seaweed-filled Miyok (Postpartum Soup) Set Meal" (1,000 yen). The set includes brown rice, daikon radish kakuteki, seasonal vegetable namul, and seaweed soup "miyok," which is eaten by women in Korea every day for a month after giving birth. In addition to a generous amount of seaweed, the miyok contains different ingredients of the day (beef, chicken, dried cod).
Other dishes on offer include the "Poorife Brown Rice (R) Bibimbap and Kongnamul Soup Set Meal" (1,100 yen) and "Korean-style Chawanmushi - Fluffy Gyeranjim Steamed in a Clay Pot" (400 yen).
This time, I tried the new menu item "Claypot Bibimbap" (1,300 yen), which was introduced in February 2024. It comes with a seasonal jang kongnamul (soybean sprout) soup.
I've had stone-pot bibimbap before, but this is my first time trying it in a clay pot!
Inside the hot clay pot is brown rice topped with eight generous ingredients, including carrots, bean sprouts, cucumber, shiitake mushrooms, and eggs.
Scoop a spoonful of Kongnamul soup into the bibimbap with a sukkkara (Korean spoon) and mix well while listening to the appetizing sizzling sound.
After mixing it thoroughly, it is topped with the finest lean minced beef from Li's family's yakiniku restaurant and eaten without a trace.
You can adjust the spiciness to your liking with the gochujang served with it.
The chewy texture and subtle sweetness of "Porife Brown Rice (R)" makes it a delicious combination with namul and minced meat!
You can also add cheese as a topping for an additional 200 yen, which adds a mellow flavor to the dish.
When the rice and soup are half reduced, it is also recommended to add the soup to the rice and eat it like soup.
This is the set "Jang." It is said to be the original menu of chijimi. The contents change depending on the season, and on this day it was eggplant and tofu jang. It is eaten with a sour sauce, and it was also delicious.
In addition to rice balls, there are also frozen items! Popular takeout items
The bibimbap was so delicious that I wanted to try the Polyfe Brown Rice (R) on its own, so I bought some rice balls to go.
There are 12 different types of rice balls available, with about 8 of them being sold on a daily basis.
"Shiso Cream Cheese" (270 yen) is the perfect match of smooth, rich cream cheese and fragrant shiso.
The "Five-Color Sesame" (220 yen) is so colorful and beautiful that you'll be entranced! You can directly enjoy the sweetness and chewy texture of the "Polyfe Brown Rice (R)".
You can also purchase quick-frozen "Polyfe Brown Rice (R)". It will be available for sale on the online shop in the future, so it will be great for gifts for people far away.
At "Genmai-rosho", you can enjoy delicious brown rice both for takeout and for eating in. Please come and visit us. (Text by Hakata Aya.)
