This time, we will introduce you to a super popular udon izakaya in Yahata-ku, Kitakyushu City, which fills up quickly even on weekdays!
A noteworthy "Udon Izakaya"! Everything is delicious at "Udon Mangetsu" (Chiyogasaki Yahata Ward, Kitakyushu City)
"Udon Mangetsu" is located about an 8-minute walk from Honjo Station on the JR Chikuho Main Line. The restaurant opened on February 13, 2023 and serves udon during the day and as a udon izakaya at night.
This is a very popular restaurant, as it is a group created by udon lovers in Kokura Minami Ward and is a member of the "Buzen Urauchi-kai," an association that can only be called "udon" after undergoing training and receiving permission.
The interior of the store has a warm wooden atmosphere, creating a relaxing and comfortable space.
There are raised seats, table seats, and counter seats.
I visited when the restaurant opened on a weekday evening, but it filled up quickly! I recommend making a reservation.
Not only our famous udon noodles, but also all of our evening izakaya menu items are handmade.
The owner, Keisuke, continues to make dishes using carefully selected ingredients without compromise. He wants to bring a smile to the faces of his guests, so he is particular about the quality of the food, and also offers lots of fun events and services!
They also offer some exciting services, such as a menu where you can make your own rolled omelet at the table (more on this later) and "one small beer free with every alcoholic drink order" (check at the store for details).
Both the udon and izakaya menu are delicious! Introducing our recommendations
Let me introduce you to the "Udon Mangetsu" evening menu that I ordered this time.
Night Full Moon Gunpowder
The udon menu "Yomangetsugayaku" (1,450 yen) is a hearty bowl of noodles that you can enjoy with a variety of ingredients at once. It contains meat, minced chicken, two shrimp tempura, a soft-boiled egg, kitsune (fry), burdock tempura, green onion, wakame (seaweed), and kamaboko (fish cake).
The special broth and shiny noodles that are unique to "Buzen Urauchikai" are so delicious that you will be hooked once you try them. It's a masterpiece that you will want to return to immediately.
Grilled butter cheese and egg
The "Grilled Butter Cheese Kamatama" (900 yen) is also popular among women. This is actually udon, not pasta.
The combination of the shiny noodles, soft-boiled egg, and the rich, fragrant flavor of the cheese that was toasted just before serving is irresistible.
The creative udon noodles made me feel like I wanted to come back and eat this menu again, and I could really sense the skill of this restaurant.
Potato salad with mustard for adults
"Adult Grain Mustard Potato Salad" (520 yen) is a delicious combination of potato and cheese flavors.
Accented with plenty of whole grain mustard, it has an adult flavor that is perfect to accompany an alcoholic drink.
Deep-fried chicken wings dried overnight
The "Dried and Fried Chicken Wings" (580 yen) was also unforgettably delicious.
The crispy texture of the skin and the juicy, finely textured meat were exceptional the moment I put it in my mouth.
Kyushu raw tuna red meat sashimi
You can also enjoy the extremely fresh sashimi menu.
The Kyushu Raw Tuna Lean Sashimi (450 yen) was fresh and delicious! The rich soy sauce for sashimi also showed the chef's attention to detail.
Chicken liver sashimi
"Chicken liver sashimi" (650 yen) is cooked at low temperature and has a melt-in-your-mouth texture that will make you feel happy.
It goes perfectly with alcohol and is a dish I'll definitely order next time.
Specialty: Charbroiled raw tuna
The limited-edition "Specialty Charbroiled Raw Tuna" (1,390 yen) is served with wasabi, ponzu sauce with grated daikon radish, and salt.
This raw tuna, which can also be enjoyed as sashimi, is grilled over charcoal, making the outside fragrant and the meat plump!
This is a delicacy that you should try at least once.
Specialty: Charbroiled Ajimi Chicken
The famous charcoal-grilled Ajimi Chicken (1,100 yen) arrives, sizzling.
This dish is made with brand-name chicken "Ajimidori" grilled over charcoal until it is plump and fragrant, locking in the flavor. It is even more delicious when combined with the spicy yuzu pepper.
Thickly sliced Unzen ham cutlet
I was surprised at how thick the "Thick-Sliced Unzen Ham Cutlet" (690 yen) was.
It's fried to a crisp and the rich flavor fills your mouth!
Charbroiled Itoshima pork
I was impressed by the juicy flavor of the "Charbroiled Itoshima Pork" (1,100 yen).
The charcoal-grilled Itoshima pork is incredibly sweet! This is another dish you should definitely try.
Drooling Chicken
"Yodare Chicken" (590 yen) is made by cooking chicken breast meat at low temperature until it becomes tender and light, then finishing it with a sweet and spicy flavor.
The condiments add a nice accent to the light flavor, making it perfect for drinking alcohol.
Homemade cream cheese topped with chanja
"Homemade cream cheese with chanja" (490 yen) is cream cheese with a mild flavor and a melting texture, wrapped in Tokushima nori seaweed together with chanja.
It was so delicious it exceeded my expectations of izakaya food!
Weekdays only! Can you make it well? "Dashimaki Challenge"
At "Udon Mangetsu," we are currently holding a "Dashimaki Challenge" (580 yen) only on weekdays (if the restaurant is fully booked, we may not be able to accept your request, so if you want to be sure to order, we recommend making a reservation).
Once you order, a gas stove, frying pan, and beaten eggs will be brought to your table.
You can also enjoy making your own rolled omelet on the spot.
What's more, if you take photos of the process of making the dashimaki and the finished rolled omelet and post them on Instagram, you'll be able to take part in the Dashimaki Challenge for free (you must mention the restaurant's account).
Just add your own condiments from the accompanying plate and it's done!
It's seasoned perfectly, so it's delicious even if you make it yourself! Please give it a try.
A wide variety of drinks on the menu
The drink menu is extensive, with a full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.
This time I ordered a non-alcoholic drink, their homemade "Lemon Sour" (380 yen). The rich lemon flavor was outstanding, and it was a refreshing drink that was sweet but also refreshing. I could feel that they put a lot of care into not only the food but also the drinks!
