A great gift! "Once you try it, you'll definitely want to come back" - A long-established Japanese sweets shop beloved in Kitakyushu

Hello! I'm Haga, a mother of four growing children.

This time we will be introducing a long-established Japanese sweets store in Kitakyushu City. We recommend it as a small gift to go with your everyday coffee!

"Hidesuke Mochi Honpo Nakamuraya" - a Japanese sweets shop long loved by the local community (Wakazono, Kokuraminami Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Founded in 1966, Hisuke Mochi Honpo Nakamuraya is a Japanese confectionery shop that has long been loved by the local community.

There are four stores in Kitakyushu city, and this time I went to the main store in Wakazono, Kokuraminami Ward.

It is a 2-minute walk from the Nishitetsu bus stop "Wakazono Children's Center Mae" and is located along "Wakakko Street" in "Kikuwaka Street Shopping Arcade".

There are three parking spaces in front of the store, so it is easy to come by car.

When you enter the store, the shelves are lined with their signature sweets.

Including standard and seasonal items, about 50 types of sweets are on display in the store every year.

"All the sweets are as cute as my own children," says the store owner, revealing his affection for them.

In addition to traditional Japanese sweets, there is a wide variety of products with fun names, such as "Tappurin" and "Chappurin" (300 yen each), which are carefully steamed using traditional Japanese sweets recipes. You can feel the owner's enjoyment in making sweets.

It's great to have both Japanese and Western flavors! Once you try these exquisite sweets you'll be hooked!

There are many appealing sweets, some of which use ingredients from Fukuoka Prefecture, and some with product names related to Kitakyushu. I'd like to introduce some of my favorites.

First of all, you should definitely try the "Hidesusuke Mochi" (100 yen each), which is named after the shop.

They are selling it at this price so that children can buy it with their pocket money.

The soft habutae mochi rice cakes, as soft as a baby's cheek, and the exquisite saltiness that brings out the sweetness of the Hokkaido azuki beans create an addictive taste that is incredibly delicious.

By the way, the product name "Hidesuke" comes from the name of the founder and father of the current second-generation owner of the store.

It was born from the owner's desire to "make a sweet that represents his father's name (Hijisuke), that is something that is naturally on the dinner table every day, just like the sun rising every day." After much thought, he came up with this extremely simple mochi.

This is the "Yae no Sakura Monaka" (200 yen), created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the company's founding.

The cute cherry blossom colored monaka is filled with plenty of white bean paste. It is not too sweet and has a crispy texture.

By the way, the product name here is taken from the owner's mother's name.

This is "Kitakyu Botamochi" (180 yen each).

The texture of the glutinous rice and the sweetness of the bean paste are just right, making this a very satisfying dish.

So far we have been introducing Japanese sweets, but the appeal of "Hidesusuke Mochi Honpo Nakamuraya" is that they also sell Western sweets.

The photo below on the left shows the "Lemon Cake" (220 yen), a moist cake with lemon pulp. When you open the wrapper, the refreshing scent of lemon spreads. It's big, but it's so delicious you'll eat it all in one go.

The two on the bottom right are the frozen "Tiramisu Daifuku" and "Gyokuro Dainagon Daifuku" (200 yen each). The soft mochi is filled with sweet cream. The gyokuro has a slightly bitter taste, an exquisite taste for adults.

The sweets from Hisuke Mochi Honpo Nakamuraya are not only delicious, but also have an attractive size and price.

Once you try it, you'll definitely want to buy it again! Apparently, they also receive many inquiries from those who have received it as a gift.

In addition to the main store introduced here, there are also stores in Tokuriki, Kurohara, and Kitakyushu Airport Izutsuya, as well as online sales. Please try these sweets, which are full of the charm of Kitakyushu. (Text by Hagaga Tomomi)
