[Itoshima Drive] "Small plate full" lunch is popular! Stylish old-style cafe (Yokohama, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City)
Hello. I'm Ayu.latte, a writer who loves cafe lunches. I've visited over 1,700 cafes in total.
This time, we will introduce you to a wonderful cafe quietly located in a residential area that is perfect for stopping by on your drive around Itoshima.
A must-visit on your drive to Itoshima! A stylish old-style cafe, "Cafe Kinari" (Yokohama, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City)
Cafe Kinari is located in Yokohama, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City, about a 5-minute drive from JR Imajuku Station. This cafe has a nostalgic atmosphere and was renovated from a 100-year-old traditional Japanese house. It opened on March 1, 2023.
There is a parking lot next to the store that can accommodate six regular cars.
The restaurant's name, "Kinari," is said to be derived from the word "Kinari," which means "unprocessed, as it is." The restaurant's hope is that by serving healthy food, customers will become "kinari."
There was a blackboard outside with information about lunch, drinks, and desserts.
The first floor has tables that seat 2 to 4 people.
There were also seats available on the veranda, so I had a hard time deciding which one to choose.
After climbing the stairs, there are three tatami benches on the second floor.
There are also some nostalgic items here and there, such as mosquito coils and glass bottles for making fruit wine. You'll want to take pictures of them.
There are three types of lunch available, all packed with healthy ingredients!
Your goal is to have a delicious lunch.
This time I ordered two of the three types available.
A lovely smiling staff member brought it to me.
Itoshima somen chiri set meal
This is a new menu item, "Itoshima Somenchiri Set Meal" (1,180 yen). The owner, who is from Itoshima, chose this menu item because he wanted people to enjoy "somenchiri," a traditional dish made in Itoshima for festivals and celebrations.
The main dish comes with mixed grain rice and three small side dishes of the day. The mixed grain rice is garnished with homemade shiso furikake and pickles.
"Somen Chiri" is somen noodles with a sweet chicken-based soup and plenty of ingredients such as chrysanthemum, enoki mushrooms, Chinese cabbage, tofu, and chicken. It tastes just like sukiyaki and is delicious! One extra serving of somen noodles will be included.
Porridge meal
This is the "Porridge Set" (1,180 yen), which has been available since the restaurant opened.
Even before opening the restaurant, the owner had a strong desire to provide his customers with healthy food, and so he chose porridge, which is known to be good for the body in many ways, for his lunch menu.
You can enjoy a total of four types of toppings for your porridge: goji berries, pickled plums, mustard greens, and wakame seaweed.
In addition, nine different small dishes are included, which change daily. On this day, the lineup included boiled pumpkin, boiled hijiki seaweed, and Chikuzen stew. All of them are side dishes that will make your body happy.
In addition to these two types of lunch, there is also "Tomato Keema Curry with Beans and Itoshima Pork" (1,200 yen).
Very popular! A smoothie made with amazake that even kids can drink
The "Amazake Smoothie" (580 yen) is also popular. It is made with rice malt instead of sake lees and contains no alcohol, so even children can enjoy it.
The lineup includes five flavors: strawberry, blueberry, mango, banana, and komatsuna + pineapple.
This time, I ordered two types: "Blueberry" and "Komatsuna + Pineapple."
Both of them have a gentle sweetness that makes you wonder if they don't use sugar! The sweetness comes from the starch in the rice malt fermenting and turning into glucose. I'm curious to try the other flavors too.
The sweets are cute! We also recommend visiting the cafe.
The sweets were also very cute and delicious, so I recommend them.
This is the "Kinari Chiffon Cake Set" (1,100 yen), which was recently added to the menu. It comes with a drink, and you can choose from three types: "Naturally Grown Tea," "Kinmokusei Tea," and "Blend of Hojicha and Japanese Black Tea." This time, I chose "Kinmokusei Tea."
This cupcake-shaped chiffon cake is made with firm dough and is decorated with red bean paste, fresh cream, and strawberries. The combination of red bean paste and fresh cream is the best!
This is "Flower Pot Tiramisu" (660 yen) served in a flowerpot-shaped container.
Inside is a sponge cake soaked in espresso and plenty of mascarpone cream! It has a creamy and mild taste and was absolutely delicious.
It is decorated with edible flowers, making it very cute to look at.
The very kind owner (on the right in the photo) and the cheerful, polite staff made this a restaurant I'd like to visit again.
