[Kokura Lunch] The sauce and noodles are homemade! A delicious, chewy fresh pasta loved by locals (Umakari, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Hello! I'm Haga, a mother of four growing children.
This time, we will introduce a restaurant in Umakari, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City that prides itself on its fresh pasta.
Homemade noodles made with care! La Farina, a restaurant that boasts authentic fresh pasta (Umakari, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)
La Farina is a homemade fresh pasta specialty store conveniently located just a 3-minute walk from Kitakyushu Monorail Tanga Station and a 1-minute walk from the Nishitetsu bus stop "Municipal Medical Center Mae."
There are many paid parking lots nearby, so it is easy to access by car.
The wooden spoon and fork hanging from the eaves are the landmark.
The store opened in March 2001 and was renovated two and a half years ago.
The high ceilings and terracotta-colored walls create a spacious atmosphere, with stylish jazz music playing. The staff are cheerful and polite, so you can relax even if you're alone.
There is a counter that seats five and four tables.
The reason for opening a fresh pasta shop was that the owner fell in love with an Italian pasta machine during a short-term study abroad program in Italy. Of course, he still makes fresh pasta every day in the Italian pasta machine installed in the shop, adjusting the water content depending on the weather and humidity of the day. "Fresh pasta has a unique chewy texture, so please enjoy how different it is from dried pasta," says the owner.
Recommended! Choose your own fresh pasta lunch set
La farina, where you can enjoy their famous fresh pasta, offers the following four lunch sets (pasta cannot be ordered alone).
"A Lunch" (price of pasta + 220 yen): Pasta, focaccia or drink
"B Lunch" (price of pasta + 330 yen): pasta, focaccia, drink
"C Lunch" (price of pasta + 440 yen): Pasta, colorful salad, soup, focaccia, drink
"S Lunch" (price of pasta + 330 yen): Pasta, colorful salad, soup
For the main pasta dish, you can choose one from 5 to 6 different types, including standard and seasonal specials.
On the day I visited, there were dishes such as the classic "Spaghetti with Tomatoes, Mozzarella, and Shiso Paste" (1,210 yen, photo below), and on the day of my visit, there was "Creamy Spaghetti with Hiroshima Oysters and Spinach" (2,000 yen), which used seasonal ingredients.
On this day, I ordered Lunch C, which featured the seasonal "Spaghetti with Snow Crab and Mizuna in Tomato Sauce" (1,650 yen, no longer available this season).
The first thing that was brought out was a colorful salad and soup.
This colorful salad has vegetables that are juicy and have a great texture, so you can tell they are fresh.
The soup for the day was "Chinese cabbage and radish potage." It was a rich dish that really brought out the flavor of the vegetables and warmed the body.
Apparently the owner purchases the vegetables at the Danga Market.
Next came the main course of pasta and focaccia.
The tomato sauce, which stands out against the white plate, is also homemade. The refreshing acidity of the tomatoes goes well with the other ingredients, and it's delicious when mixed with the fresh pasta! There's also plenty of snow crab meat in it, so you can enjoy the texture right down to the last bite.
The mizuna is also crunchy!
The shop's proud pasta is made with semolina and whole wheat flour. It was chewy and thick, and went well with the sauce. You could really taste the flavor of the pasta, and it was delicious.
The focaccia also has a wheaty aroma, and the dough is moist and chewy. This is also homemade, and you can tell it is made with care. Be sure to order the set!
You can choose from soft drinks, but we recommend coffee.
The beans used are from "Coffee Home Roaster Mamenoki" (Ashihara, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City), selected by the owner, who said, "I'm particular about the beans so that my customers can enjoy the coffee." The beans are ground just before serving, so the aroma fills the store, creating a luxurious space that coffee lovers can't resist.
"We are particular about the beans we use so that our customers can enjoy our food," he says, and they purchase different types of beans depending on the season.
Check out the sweets too
There are four or five different kinds of sweets available each day, such as "Vanilla Gelato" (330 yen) and "Raw Chocolate Tart" (440 yen).
It's also a great addition to your lunch set.
They also offer take-out items that you can boil and enjoy fresh pasta at home. The classic "Tomato and Mozzarella" (2,200 yen for two) is said to be the most popular.
You can go by yourself or have a nice meal with friends.
Why not enjoy a blissful time that will satisfy both your stomach and your heart? (Text by Haga Tomomi)
