A wide variety of dishes at reasonable prices! A new, noteworthy "neo-Chinese" restaurant serving small plates (Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Hello. I'm ayu.latte, a writer who loves delicious food.

When you think of Chinese food, many people probably imagine large platters shared by everyone, but today we'll be introducing Chinese restaurants where you can enjoy a wide variety of different dishes on small plates.

Fukusuke Hanten, a popular restaurant that opened in Uomachi Gintengai, offers casual Chinese cuisine (Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Fukusuke Hanten opened on July 14, 2023 in Uomachi Gintengai, Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City.

Also located in Uomachi Gintengai are sister restaurants "Fukusuke Shoten," which specializes in kushikatsu, and "Stand Fukusuke," which serves oden in a standing-style setting. Now, "Fukusuke Hanten" has joined the group as a casual place to enjoy Chinese food.

As the sign outside the shop says "Small Plate Chinese," this is a restaurant that serves Chinese food in "small plates." You can enjoy "neo-Chinese" dishes that are modern arrangements of classic menu items, with the casual and affordable feel of a local Chinese restaurant.

They also offer set meals during lunchtime.

Most of the seats are counter seats.

About 40 kinds of authentic Chinese food at reasonable prices! A report on the menu

At Fukusuke Hanten, you can enjoy about 40 different dishes on the menu. Prices range from 308 yen to 748 yen per plate, and I felt that even with this amount of food, they were all very reasonable!

Let me introduce what I received this time.

Soft-boiled drug egg (308 yen)

This dish is served on a spoon with soft-boiled eggs marinated in homemade seasonings, special dashi soy sauce, and chopped onions. The textures are fun and it's an exciting menu!

Delicious shrimp dumplings (418 yen)

As the name suggests, these are superb shrimp dumplings! With minimal seasoning, they make the most of the shrimp's natural plump texture and flavor, creating a simple yet delicious dish.

Shrimp mayonnaise and fried kadaif (638 yen)

First of all, shrimp mayo looks different from what you might normally see.

The batter that wraps the shrimp is crispy and crunchy! It has a fun texture♪ It is wrapped around a type of noodle called "kadaif (angel hair)" that originated in Turkey and Greece, and then deep fried.

The shrimp mayonnaise sauce is not premixed but served on the side, and you eat it by adding a little at a time, which is very "neo-Chinese" ♡

Moist, saliva-filled chicken (418 yen)

This chicken is made with chicken breast and cooked at a low temperature to give it a juicy and moist texture.

The special sauce made with Taiwanese black vinegar is fragrant and delicious! It's also quite spicy, so if you like spicy food, this is a must-try.

Soft liver with oily sauce (528 yen)

Chicken liver, thoroughly cooked at low temperature, has no strong flavor and is very delicious! It has an irresistible sticky texture, and is a dish we recommend to anyone who likes raw liver.

It's a Chinese twist on the dish, made with salt and special chili oil, so it's quite spicy, so be careful when eating it!

Shrimp in chili sauce (748 yen)

The shrimp was simmered in chili sauce and topped with shrimp crackers. It was plump and delicious.

They are particular about using shrimp, which is rich in umami ingredients, as an ingredient. It is slightly spicy, but it also contains eggs, so I think it is easy to eat even for those who don't like spicy food.

Mapo tofu made with famous Tsuruga tofu (638 yen)

This mapo tofu is made with the luxurious tofu from "Tsuruga Tofu" in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City, which is sold to high-end restaurants and other food establishments. It has a strong spiciness with the addition of Japanese pepper, making it an addictive flavor.

The food is served on a heated ceramic plate, so you can enjoy the lively bubbling sensation. The overflowing presentation is also very luxurious.

Braised spare ribs sweet and sour pork style (748 yen)

The spare ribs are stewed so tender that they fall apart as soon as you poke them with chopsticks. After stewing, they are lightly fried, giving them a crispy exterior.

Crab fried rice (748 yen)

Decorated with crab shells, this dish is impressive in both appearance and taste! It is made with chicken broth and generously topped with a thick sauce flavored with crab miso and chili bean paste.

Almond drink with osmanthus and peach (682 yen) / Adult cream soda with butterfly pea (660 yen)

There was a wide selection of drinks available, but this time I ordered something a little different.

The "Almond Jelly Drink - Osmanthus and Peach" (pictured below, left) was created as a drink that goes well with spicy Chinese food, inspired by almond tofu. Drinking this drink after eating a spicy meal resets your mouth and makes you want to eat more! Alcoholic drinks are also available for an additional 110 yen.

"Adult Cream Soda Butterfly Pea" (right in the photo below) is a lightly sweet and easy-to-drink drink. When you mix it with the lemon juice that comes with it, you can enjoy watching it change from blue to a vibrant purple!

Other cream sodas available include the yellow "Shinruchu" and the red "Kinzashichu." Butterfly pea only is also available as a non-alcoholic drink.

"I want to keep the same taste while always offering new dishes that everyone can enjoy," says the head chef. In fact, he is originally from a Japanese cuisine background and has never even handled a Chinese knife. He turned that pressure into fun and came up with many new dishes.

You can share the various flavors with everyone, or hog them all to yourself. This is a restaurant that offers a variety of ways to enjoy yourself, so be sure to drop by to make some memories of a fun night out in Kokura. (Text by ayu.latte)
