The 2023 season at Itoshima Oyster Huts has begun! Bring your own food and enjoy a wide variety of menu items at this popular restaurant at Gishi Fishing Port.
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, and I love hot information about Fukuoka.
Oyster shack season has finally arrived! As an oyster lover, I look forward to this time every year.
I went there right away, so I'd like to introduce it to you.
Look for the pink sign! A popular restaurant at Gishi Fishing Port, "Oyster Hut Fujimaru" (Shimagishi, Itoshima City)
When it comes to oyster huts in Fukuoka, Itoshima is the place to go.
During the winter, they appear in the Fukuyoshi Fishing Port, Gafuri Fishing Port, Funakoshi Fishing Port, Gishi Fishing Port, Fukae, and Nokita areas, but this time we headed to Gishi Fishing Port.
All stores were renovated in 2019. They were converted from vinyl greenhouses into shops. There are 11 oyster huts in total, the most in Itoshima.
To access by public transport, take the bus (Keya Line) from the north exit of Chikuzen-Maebaru Station on the JR Chikuhi Line, get off at "Kishi", then walk for about 4 minutes, or take a taxi for about 20 minutes.
There is a large parking lot, so it is convenient to come by car. It takes about 25 minutes from the Maebara IC on the Nishi Kyushu Expressway.
The price of oysters offered at Gishi Fishing Port has been set at a flat rate of 1,200 yen per kg (as of fiscal year 2023). Each oyster hut has its own unique atmosphere, service, and side menu, so it's fun to find your favorite.
I visited "Oyster Hut Fujimaru"! Look for the big pink menu sign.
The 2023 fiscal year will start on October 14th, and is scheduled to be open until late March 2024 (subject to change, please check with the store for details).
The store is spacious!
To protect your clothes from getting dirty, there is a jumper rental service (pink and red).
You can bring your own food! Enjoy the delicious "grilled oysters" in their own original flavors
At "Oyster Hut Fujimaru," you can enjoy fresh oysters grilled over charcoal (charcoal costs 500 yen per grill).
At most oyster huts in Gishi Fishing Port, you are free to bring your own oysters (check with each store for details).
At Oyster Hut Fujimaru, you can bring in your own drinks, rice, and condiments. However, please note that you cannot bring in anything that can be grilled on the grill (such as sausages or meat).
The table is set out with plates, chopsticks, oyster knives, and gloves.
Soy sauce and ponzu sauce are always available, so you can come empty-handed and still enjoy yourself!
You can also purchase "butter" (70 yen per piece), "mayonnaise" (50 yen per piece), and "lemon" (4 slices for 100 yen).
This time, in addition to Mataichi salt, sesame oil, spices, green onions, grated daikon radish, curry powder, lemon juice, garlic, and Kayanoya dashi stock, I brought drinks and baguettes.
The main dish of oysters can be ordered starting from 500g (600 yen).
Freshly picked every day! With a focus on quality, they sterilize the fish using ultraviolet light and microbubble ozone.
Here we have 2kg of oysters (2,400 yen), scallops (250 yen each), and turban shells (250 yen each). They are grilled one after another on the grill.
Grill the flat side first for 2-3 minutes, then open the shell and add the seasonings!
It's still early in the season, but the flesh is quite large and will continue to grow as winter approaches.
It has no fishy smell, is hot and bouncy... it's also sweet and delicious! The classic combination of soy sauce, green onions, and grated daikon radish makes it so delicious you can eat it forever.
This is a baguette topped with a sprinkling of Kayanoya dashi. The dashi flavor is rich!
It was also great to dip a baguette into the soup left in the shell.
We visited as a group of two women that day, and enjoyed 3kg of oysters alone!
Be sure to check out the wide variety of side dishes!
Another attraction of "Oyster Hut Fujimaru" is the extensive side menu.
The classic "Oyster Rice" (350 yen) is a must-try! The chewy rice is infused with the rich flavor of oysters.
The oyster soup (150 yen) was a good accompaniment. It had a mild taste and was delicious.
The original menu item is "Oyster Peperoncino" (750 yen). It's filled with large oysters, and the al dente texture and seasoning are both excellent!
There were also many other unusual menu items such as "Oyster Risotto" (500 yen), "Sautéed Oysters and Moromi" (500 yen), "Oyster Pizza" (900 yen), and "Oyster Gratin" (450 yen).
Of course, there are other menu items besides oysters.
In addition to a wide variety of seafood such as shrimp (300 yen per fish), squid (600 yen per piece), and yellowtail tuna (600 yen per piece), you can also enjoy grilling other dishes such as wieners (Itoshima ham) (3 pieces for 450 yen), deep-fried tofu (3 pieces for 200 yen), and corn (2 pieces for 350 yen).
The "Seafood Bowl (Mini)" (890 yen) and "Salmon Bowl (Mini)" (800 yen) are also appealing!
There are also menu items that children will enjoy, such as "French fries" (380 yen), "American hot dogs" (250 yen), and "Fried shrimp" (3 pieces for 600 yen), so it seems like it would be fun for the whole family!
There are also great value set menus available for one person (2,000 yen, 5,500 yen, and 9,000 yen, including charcoal).
Please note that there is a 90 minute time limit on weekends and holidays as the facility gets very crowded.
At Oyster Hut Fujimaru, you can enjoy milky, flavorful oysters to your heart's content. Be sure to visit during the oyster season! (Text by Hakata Aya.)
