[Hakata Station] A popular Fukuoka souvenir, this is a delicacy only known to those in the know! "I want to buy it for myself" - freshly baked "Nanban Orai"
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
"Nanban Orai" from "Sakaeya" is a popular Fukuoka souvenir. Did you know that there is a restaurant where you can eat freshly baked "Nanban Orai"?
This time, we will introduce you to Nanban Orai Myung Store, a store where you can eat freshly baked bread!
The only one in Fukuoka city! You can buy the standard Fukuoka souvenir "Nanban Orai" "freshly baked" at "Nanban Orai Myung Store" (Hakata Station Chuo-gai, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City)
The "Nanban Orai Myung Store" is located inside "Myung," which is directly connected to JR Hakata Station. It is located on "Sweets Street," right next to the JR ticket gate Myung Exit.
In the showcase on the right side of the store, you can see freshly baked "Nanban Orai"!
The more familiar "Nanban Orai" is in individual packages, but here the "Nanban Orai" is made in the workshop at the back and is decorated and lined up like a cake.
The workshop in the back is made of glass, so you can watch the production process as the products are made one after another.
By the way, freshly baked "Nanban Orai" is only sold at two stores: this Myung store and "Nanban Orai Iizuka Main Store (Sweets-Bistro)" in Iizuka (opening April 2023).
Regular individually packaged "Nanban Orai" is also sold on the left side of the store.
Nanban Orai, which first went on sale in 1984, is a product that took 13 years to develop, with a focus on ingredients and manufacturing methods. The crispy pie with the aroma of cultured butter and the moist crust baked with 100% almond flour inside are exquisite!
And jam is an essential accent to the deliciousness of "Nanban Orai". In addition to the classic "Raspberry", "Itoshima Milk", and "Kumamoto Gold Sweet", the seasonal "Fukuoka Toyomitsuhime" and "Kumamoto Kuma Chestnut" are currently on sale.
The "Nanban Orai Sandwich Assortment" (7 pieces for 1,210 yen), which is also recommended for comparing different types of sandwiches, includes not only the "Nanban Orai" sandwich, but also the "Nanban Sandwich," which is a "Nanban Orai" sandwich with rich chocolate ganache sandwiched between the dough of the "Nanban Orai."
Excellent! Looks great too! Freshly Baked Nanban Orai
The freshly baked "Namba Orai" is a visually stunning treat with toppings piled on top of freshly baked pie crust.
The expiration date is the same day, so it's perfect for yourself or as a gift to give to someone on the same day.
The classic "Sugar Road" (162 yen) is a simple dish with caramelized sugar on the surface. This is recommended for those who want to enjoy the taste of "Nanban Orai" itself.
"Cashew Nuts and Brown Sugar" (270 yen) has a great visual impact! The texture of the cashew nuts goes perfectly with the moist dough. The aroma is irresistible.
The seasonal "Daigaku Imo" (left side of the photo below, 173 yen per piece) is a sweet potato dough topped with sugar and caramelized, giving it a taste just like Daigaku Imo. The rich, dense potato was heavy and satisfying to eat.
"Marron glacé and Wasanbon" (left side of the photo below, 281 yen each) is topped with plenty of chestnuts and is a sophisticated delicacy with the aroma of rum. My favorite was "Fukuoka Toyomitsuhime and Red Wine" (right side of the photo below, 227 yen each). I was able to enjoy both the granular texture of the sweet Toyomitsuhime figs and the creamy texture, and it was very delicious!
It's a perfect gift or snack, so be sure to give it a try. (Text: Hakata Aya.)
