Costco expert Kosuko carefully selects 3 amazing Costco sweets that you'll want to try in the fall and winter
Hello! I'm Kosuko, a housewife who loves the members-only warehouse store Costco.
This time, I'd like to introduce some of the delicious sweets that I've actually tried and found particularly impressive from the Costco products that can be purchased from autumn to winter!
Incredibly delicious "Deavas Hot Chocolate Drops"
First, we will introduce the new product this season, "Deavas Hot Chocolate Drops (500g)" (1,298 yen). This is not a chocolate to eat as is, but a chocolate to make a chocolate drink.
The bag is filled with Belgian chocolate in teardrop shapes about 1 cm in diameter. Add the amount of chocolate you like to warm milk and melt it. For the base, use about 3 pieces per 180 ml of milk.
Since it is a solid chocolate, it does not melt and blend in as quickly as cocoa powder, but as you stir it around, the white milk gradually turns chocolate color and the sweet, fragrant aroma grows, building up anticipation.
This was so delicious and I was so impressed!
It looks and smells "quite sweet," but it's actually a little bitter and not too sweet. It has a very strong cocoa flavor, and is full-bodied, but not cloying.
It's more like a hot chocolate drink that adults would enjoy, rather than a sweet chocolate drink that children can enjoy as a snack.
It's the perfect drink to warm you up on a cold morning and wake up your brain and body.
"UHA Mikakuto Osatsu Doki Premium Salted Butter Flavor" can only be purchased at Costco
When autumn comes around, we suddenly want to eat sweet potatoes. So, next we will introduce the familiar sweet potato chips "UHA Mikakuto Osatsu Doki". It has been on sale for 40 years, and I'm sure many of you have eaten them as children.
However, this "UHA Mikakuto Osatsudoki Premium Salted Butter Flavor (65g x 10 bags)" (1,148 yen) is a limited flavor that can only be purchased at Costco!
It uses Marine Food Milk-Eating Dairy Butter, which is popular at Costco, and is a little different from the "Salted Butter Flavor" that is usually sold.
When you open the box, you'll find a bright yellow pouch with a big, striking character "do" inside.
Here's what the inside looks like. As soon as you open it, the rich, buttery, sweet, fragrant aroma of roasted sweet potato fills the air, making it irresistible!
The chips are slightly thick and crispy, with a warm sweetness, milky richness, and a sprinkling of salty powder.
With each bite, the sweetness of the sweet potato and the flavor of the powder come together to create a truly deep flavor.
Before eating it, I thought, "Well, it's probably a taste I'm vaguely familiar with," but when I actually tried it, it was so delicious that I couldn't stop laughing.
It comes in a pack of 10, but it's so delicious you won't be able to stop eating them before you know it, so be careful.
New "Carrot Cupcake" that lets you easily enjoy overseas flavors
Last but not least, we have the new Carrot Cupcake (6 pieces) (1,698 yen), a new product for fall 2023 that has appeared in Costco's refrigerated sweets section.
The large, heavy cupcakes are typical of Costco and are topped with a generous amount of cream, making them truly American!
Carrot cake is not very familiar in Japan, but it is actually a popular baked good in the United States. Grated carrots, chunky walnuts, and spices such as cinnamon are kneaded into the moist dough. It is usually topped with cream cheese frosting.
This is a delightful dessert that allows you to easily enjoy authentic overseas flavors.
The cupcakes are just under 10cm in diameter and 7cm in height. Each one weighs 235g to 240g, so even just one is quite voluminous. If you put all six together, the cupcakes will weigh about 1.4kg.
The dough is dark in color and moist, and is topped with a thick layer of cream cheese frosting that is just the right amount of sweetness.
There is supposed to be plenty of carrots kneaded into the dough, but the cake itself doesn't taste like a vegetable at all.
The dough is fragrant and moist, and the crunchy walnuts add a nice accent to the spices, giving it an explosive international flavor.
It looks heavy and sticky and sweet, but it's not that sweet. The sourness of the cheese in the frosting and the slight saltiness of the frosting balance each other out nicely, making it refreshing. It was surprisingly delicious and crunchy.
I think this product has a very Costco-like charm in the sense that it allows you to casually enjoy American sweets that you don't usually get to try.
Some items are only available at this time of year, so if there's something you like, be sure to check it out early! (Text by Kosuko)
