Wash it? What about the whiskers? How about storing it? The correct answer and use of bean sprouts that you may not know! Two easy recipes that can be made in seconds

Hello. I am Ayumi Nakaganji, a chef.

I've been trying to lose a little weight for about a month now by improving my diet. I'm not restricting myself too much, but I eat three meals a day, so I'm trying to prepare meals when I have time.

Recently, I've been making steamed bean sprouts. If you prepare them in advance, you can vary the flavor, so it's very convenient to have them in your refrigerator. They're also a helpful ingredient in the midst of rising prices.

Steamed bean sprouts are a very convenient way to stock up

Do you wash bean sprouts? Or not?

Many people may be confused.

You can use them without washing them, but they have a unique bean smell, and washing them can cause a lot of dirt to come out. As a result, I wash them before using them. This makes the bean sprouts crisper and more energetic.

If you fill a bowl with water and gently wash the sprouts, the seed coat and root hairs will float to the surface and be easier to remove. Putting the sprouts in a bowl also prevents friction between them, making them less likely to break.

As for the beard... please remove it if you have time.

By the way, I really like the time I spend removing the hairs from bean sprouts and the strings from beans because it allows me to become "empty". Also, I feel like I can immerse myself in the "careful life" (laughs).

This time, we will steam two bags of bean sprouts in a frying pan. Place a sheet of cooking paper on top of a large frying pan and spread the bean sprouts on top of it. Pour about 100ml of water between the frying pan and the cooking paper, cover and steam for 4 to 5 minutes over medium heat. If the water runs out during the process, add more.

Turn off the heat and leave it to cool, then drain it in a colander and store it in a container lined with kitchen paper. It's best to eat it within about 3 days.

Of course it can be used in the microwave.

I find that steaming makes the food crispier and tastier, so I use a steamer or frying pan, but you can also use the microwave, of course.

Wash the bean sprouts (1 bag) and lightly drain them, then spread them out in a heat-resistant container, lightly cover with plastic wrap, and heat at 600W for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Feel free to adjust the texture to your liking.

Use 1: "Bean sprouts with red shiso sprinkles"

I want something special... This is a side dish that can be made in seconds using only bean sprouts. You can also add steamed chicken to increase the volume. Red shiso furikake can be used not only as a sprinkle on rice, but also as a seasoning.

Use 2: "Spicy bean sprout seaweed namul"

This spicy namul is also recommended as a snack. This is also a recipe that only requires mixing.

[Ingredients] (Serves 2)
Steamed bean sprouts・・・100g
Loose seaweed (chopped seaweed is also acceptable) - 1 handful *If using roasted seaweed, 1 whole sheet
Sesame oil...1 teaspoon
Soy sauce...1 teaspoon
Salt... a pinch
White sesame seeds... 1 teaspoon
Chili oil...a few drops
1/4 teaspoon coarsely ground Korean chili pepper (if available)

<How to make>

(1) Add all ingredients except chili oil to a bowl and mix together (if using roasted seaweed, tear it into small pieces by hand and add it).

(2) Gradually add chili oil to adjust spiciness to your liking.

If you steam it and store it, you can quickly add it to miso soup, serve it next to a salad, top it with bonito flakes and ponzu sauce, or just mix it up like in the recipes to make a dish, so it's quite convenient.

Bean sprouts have a nice crunchy texture. Please make use of them. (Text by Ayumi Nakaganji)
