Highly praised by locals! A Western restaurant with "100% satisfaction" that's also great for a reward lunch (Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City)
My name is Aoki Ura and I moved to Kitakyushu City due to my family's job transfer.
This time, we will introduce lunch at a restaurant located in Kitakata, Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City.
Recommended by locals! A French-style Western restaurant with a homely atmosphere: Alice Kitchen (Kitakata, Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City)
Alice Kitchen is a Western restaurant that has been loved by locals for many years, renowned for its colorful dishes that use an abundance of seasonal vegetables and fruits, and which also serve very filling portions.
It is a 4-minute walk from the Nishitetsu bus stop "Kitakata Elementary School Mae" and is located on the second floor up the stairs of the pharmacy in front of the National Hospital Organization Kokura Medical Center.
The restaurant has a homey atmosphere and is always full of local families.
We had heard that their seasonal salads were excellent, so we visited for lunch this time as a couple.
There are four types of lunch menus (11:30-14:30, last order 13:30). Seats are limited to two hours.
There are the "Alice Set (small salad, soup, main dish, bread)" (1,980 yen), "Set A (seasonal salad, soup, main dish, bread)" (2,310 yen), "Set B (hors d'oeuvre, soup, main dish, bread, dessert, coffee)" (3,700 yen *reservation required), and "Alice Course (hors d'oeuvre, soup, fish dish, meat dish, bread, dessert, coffee)" (5,000 yen *reservation required).
For the main course, you can choose from the fish or meat dish of the day, as well as hamburger steak, wagyu beef cheek stewed in red wine (+440 yen), and roasted French duck (+440 yen).
"Delicious" is unstoppable! Tasting the beautifully presented lunch "Set A"
On this day, I ordered the "A Set" which included the recommended "seasonal salad."
Soon, the "seasonal salad" arrived!
It's full of fruit and the colors are beautiful.
On this day, it was topped with lettuce, green beans, and other vegetables, figs, grapefruit, and shrimp terrine in the center.
The dressing, with its sour fruit juice, was incredibly refreshing and had an irresistible fruity aftertaste.
The soup of the day was clam chowder.
The soup is packed with seafood and root vegetables.
For the main dish, I chose the "Meat of the Day." On this day, it was "Sauteed Pork."
It's very thick! It's served with a fragrant sauce made with black vinegar.
The meat is tender and the juices fill your mouth, making it very delicious!
There were also plenty of side dishes of vegetables, each cooked in a different way that brought out their natural flavor.
My husband chose "Wagyu beef cheek braised in red wine."
The Wagyu beef cheek meat was piled on top of the vegetables, and I was surprised at the volume.
The cheek meat is so tender that it falls apart when you put a knife into it.
I'm amazed at the technique that can keep such tender meat in its original shape. If I tried to do this, it would fall apart during cooking... It's really amazing.
The flavor of the sauce is just right, making it exceptionally delicious.
It looked very filling, but it was so delicious that I finished it in no time.
Bread comes with the main dish. On this day it was a croissant, but the type changes depending on the day.
Freshly baked, crispy croissants. I ate them to dip the sauce from the main dish.
It was delicious from start to finish, and I think 1,980 yen for all this is excellent value for money.
Additionally, we also ordered the "Dessert Set" (+550 yen).
On this day, the menu consisted of a platter of fig shortcake and vanilla ice cream, which also came with two large prunes.
The shortcake is handmade from sponge cake, and is packed with fresh figs, with no gaps between each piece. It was a very satisfying taste.
The drinks included in the "Dessert Set" can be chosen from coffee (hot or iced), iced tea, orange juice, or oolong tea.
I chose hot coffee on this day.
The coffee had a low acidity and a good aroma, making it the perfect way to finish off a meal.
Fresh ingredients, variety, taste, appearance, volume, and price all made for a 100% satisfying lunch.
It's a great place for a treat lunch, a date, or a small celebration. As it's a popular restaurant, we recommend making a reservation. Please do try it out! (Text by Aoki Ura)
