Enjoy all-you-can-eat rice and Spicy Fish Eggs to your heart's content ♡ Fukutaro's exquisite lunch (Isogawa, Minami-ku, Fukuoka City)
Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.
Fukutaro is known for its delicious mentaiko and the extremely popular Spicy Fish Eggs rice crackers called "Spicy Fish Eggs."
This time, we will introduce some noteworthy products from two stores, "Head Office Store" and "FUKUTARO Dining Makes Life More Fun" in LaLaport Fukuoka, both of which are located within walking distance of each other across the train tracks.
This is a must-visit spot for tourists and locals alike.
"Yamaguchi Aburaya Fukutaro Head Office Shop" (Isogawa, Minami Ward, Fukuoka City) sells freshly baked bread and has a cafe attached
As its name suggests, "Yamaguchi Aburaya Fukutaro Head Office Shop" is a shop and cafe located at the headquarters and mentaiko factory of "Fukutaro," Spicy Fish Eggs mentaiko company.
It's an 8-minute walk from JR Takeshita Station. It's also within walking distance (about 4 minutes) of LaLaport Fukuoka, just across the tracks, so it's easy to stop by both places (there's also a parking lot).
Once you pass through the elegant entrance, you'll see a row of Fukutaro's popular products!
"Menbei" comes in a wide variety of varieties, including boxed versions that are perfect for souvenirs, and the "Menbei Family Set" (960 yen) which includes a variety of flavors so you can compare them.
We want you to pay attention to this "Otokuyou Ware Sen" (from 450 yen)! It contains a large amount of "Menbei" that was broken during the manufacturing process, making it a great bargain. The flavors sold vary depending on the day. Of course, the taste doesn't change even if it's broken.
"THE MENTAI" comes in an easy-to-eat small bottle with an attractive, stylish package. It would make a great gift!
There was also a gift corner.
Tasting samples are available so you can check the taste before purchasing.
If you go further in, you'll find the bread corner. In fact, there is a bread factory attached to the main mentaiko factory, and you can purchase freshly baked bread at the shop.
When I visited, it was around 2pm and most of the bread had already been sold out, so if you're looking for bread, I recommend coming in the morning.
Fresh vegetables were also on sale.
Free refills of rice! A feast of vegetables with pork soup! Enjoy the luxurious Menton Gozen with Spicy Fish Eggs
There is a cafe space at the back. It is a prepaid system, so you pay at the register for merchandise before proceeding to the cafe.
Of particular note are the three types of "Menton Gozen" that were launched in June 2023, which allow you to enjoy the ultimate combination of "Spicy Fish Eggs and white rice."
You can choose from the "Ichi Soup and One Side Dish" (680 yen) which comes with white rice, Spicy Fish Eggs soup, mentaiko, and pickles, the "Ichi Soup and Two Side Dish" (980 yen) which adds a choice of one whole mentaiko, or the "Ichi Soup and Three Side Dish" (1,260 yen) which adds a further "dressed mentaiko".
The "Selectable Mentaiko" comes with a choice of "Kombu," "Shichimi Ago Dashi & Threaded Chili Pepper," and "Katsuobushi"!
This time, I had one soup and two dishes, and for the "choice of one whole mentaiko" I chose "kelp."
When it was brought to me, a whole piece of Spicy Fish Eggs was right in front of me. What a luxury!
I was also surprised by the size of the chunky vegetables in the pork soup!
The large bowl is filled with vegetables the size of oden.
This is a delicious pork soup with a mild broth and the aroma of ginger. The ingredients are well seasoned and delicious.
The "Ipponmono Mentaiko" has a refreshing texture of kelp and the refreshing taste of sudachi. This dish goes so well with rice that you can't help but want to try it!
The small bowl also contained plenty of Spicy Fish Eggs, so I finished the rice in no time.
You can have as much rice as you want! This is a nice service.
Drinks are self-service and include green tea, barley tea, and roasted green tea.
Finally, pour hot tea into the bowl with Spicy Fish Eggs on top to make Spicy Fish Eggs chazuke.
I enjoyed a satisfying lunch.
We also recommend "FUKUTARO - Make your dining table more fun" located inside "LaLaport Fukuoka"!
Located on the first floor of Lalaport Fukuoka, close to the Yamaguchi Aburaya Fukutaro Head Office Store, is Fukutaro's new store, FUKUTARO: Make Your Dining Fun.
There are a wide variety of products available, including original items that can only be purchased here, standard items, and take-out gourmet food.
A must-try is the "Mentaiko Yaki Onigiri" (330 yen). This dish is popular as a gourmet snack to eat while walking around the Dazaifu store.
At this store, Spicy Fish Eggs, topped with shiso leaves and your choice of Spicy Fish Eggs from yuzu, shichimi ago dashi, or kelp.
It takes about 10 minutes to make your order, so we recommend ordering first and then looking around the store.
I chose "Shichimi Ago Dashi". Spicy Fish Eggs in the rice ball is not that spicy, but the spicy Spicy Fish Eggs shichimi and the umami of the ago dashi add a nice accent. The outside was crispy and the inside was plump, and it was very delicious.
It's served piping hot, so it's best to eat it quickly to enjoy the crispy texture of the seaweed!
Please try the delicious lunch "Menton Gozen" at the "Head Office Shop" and the "Mentaiko Yaki Onigiri" at "FUKUTARO Dining Makes Your Table Fun." (Text by Hakata Aya.)
