It's so delicious it's shocking! "It's worth the trip" A popular izakaya where you can enjoy the finest shabu-shabu (Okawa City)
Hello. I am Yorimichi, the owner of the blog "Yorimichi's Fukuoka Introduction," which introduces delicious restaurants in Fukuoka.
This time, we will introduce you to Yuzu to Kome, a creative izakaya restaurant that just opened in July 2023 but has already become a popular restaurant through word of mouth.
It's sure to become one of Okawa's most iconic restaurants! Creative Izakaya "Yuzu to Kome" (Okawa City)
The shop is located in Sakami, Okawa City, about 30 minutes by car from Yame IC on the Kyushu Expressway.
Even on weekdays, the restaurant is fully booked. It's filled with a diverse range of customers, from office workers to elderly people, and young women on girls' nights out.
Now, let's take a look at the menu.
The menu changes depending on the season, but when I visited, there were boiled and grilled fish dishes such as "Braised Mouth Bottom" (1,300 yen) and "Spanish Spanish Mackerel Saikyo" (700 yen), as well as "Grilled Duck Meat with Miso Leaves" (1,500 yen), "Fried Chicken Thighs" (650 yen), and the Okawa-style "Fried Etsu" (550 yen).
At first glance, the prices don't seem to differ much from your average izakaya, but let me get straight to the point: this is a restaurant that will make you think, "This food is actually pretty cheap."
The appetizer for this day was "Cold Chawanmushi".
The secret ingredient of cheese spreads softly and is surprisingly delicious.
At this point I was sure this was the right store.
It's so delicious it'll make you tremble! The specialty "Sakana Shabu-shabu"
The signature dish, "Sakana Shabu-shabu" (1,980 yen per person) is a must-try. *The photo shows a portion for two people.
It's fish shabu-shabu, but the character "sakena" was used to describe it because it's "shabu-shabu that allows you to enjoy drinking alcohol and eat lots of vegetables at the same time."
The moment the pot of soup stock was placed in front of me, my excitement soared. There were clams submerged in the soup stock, and I was told, "Once it boils, you can eat it first."
The dish is finally complete when the broth from the clams is added.
The clams are plump and delicious.
And just as we finished the clams, the main course arrived.
This is truly a real treasure box.
The first layer is filled with plenty of white green onions.
The second tier contains tofu, Nankanage, fresh wakame seaweed, grated daikon radish and green onions.
The third tier was sashimi that could be mistaken for jewels. The combination of red sea bream and golden-eyed snapper was truly beautiful.
This is enough for two people, so I think you'll be full just from eating this.
Add the tofu and wakame seaweed and wait for a while.
Now, let's move on to shabu-shabu.
Oh, I remember that I should have put the shredded green onions in the pot first.
Sorry for the wait, we're all set now.
As soon as the fish turns slightly pink, remove it from the water, mix it with shredded spring onions, and eat it as is, without any condiments.
This was so delicious that I was shocked.
The rich broth is infused with the flavor of seafood, and I think it's amazing how delicious it is without any seasoning.
Next, we dipped it in the shop's homemade ponzu sauce, which has a strong yuzu flavor.
The fish can be wrapped around ingredients such as wakame seaweed, or shredded green onions.
Oh, they're all delicious. Yes.
Honestly, it's worth making the trip all the way to Okawa just to eat this hotpot.
Once you try it, you'll never forget it; it was so delicious.
There's more! Two must-try dishes
Of course we have hotpot, but there are other things we want you to try.
First, we ordered the fresh fish sashimi "Sake Vegetable Assortment" (1,300 yen).
It is also decorated with traditional Japanese garnishes, so I'm sure you'll be impressed when you see it in person.
Wow! It's fatty and the flavor spreads inside your mouth!
One bite and you'll be thinking "I'm glad I came!"
The size was also elegant, just right for you to savor each bite slowly.
This is the shop's recommended dish, "Bite-sized Wagyu Beef with Shiso Tempura" (1,280 yen), served with garlic, wasabi, and mustard.
Mmm! So delicious!!
The spiciness of the wasabi brings out the flavor of the rare meat.
The mustard they use isn't too spicy and brings out the exquisite aroma, making the meat three times more delicious.
Another great thing about this store is the wide variety of sake available. Also, be sure to check out the stylish sake cups.
