You must try these new Japanese sweets this fall! [Lawson]
I'm Mirai, a writer who loves sweets.
When autumn comes, don't you suddenly feel like eating Japanese sweets?
This time, we will introduce new Japanese sweets released by Lawson on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
1: The addictive new Japanese sweet! "Cream Ohagi"
Colorful and gorgeous Japanese sweets that are created using ingredients used in Western sweets or that completely change the image of Japanese sweets are becoming a hot topic and are being called "NEO Japanese sweets."
The "Cream Ohagi" (243 yen), decorated with plenty of cream and dried strawberries, is a true "NEO Japanese sweet." It has a cute appearance, almost like a cake.
When I scooped it up with a spoon, I found a chewy dough made from Domyoji flour covered in red bean paste. It had a smoother texture than the lumpy glutinous rice type.
The gently sweet bean paste and light, fluffy fresh cream combine to create a perfect harmony of Japanese and Western flavors.
The slight sourness of the dried strawberries adds a nice accent to the overall flavor. This was my first time trying this combination, but it was so delicious I could probably become addicted to it.
It has a refreshing aftertaste, so I could eat as much as I wanted!
2: Packed with delicious ingredients and low in calories! "Chestnut Kinton and Sweet Potato Yokan"
This is a set of classic Japanese sweets made with seasonal autumn ingredients: Chestnut Kinton and Sweet Potato Yokan (268 yen).
First, let's start with the cute, round-shaped chestnut kinton.
It has a smooth texture and the crunchy texture of crushed chestnuts adds a nice accent.
The slightly bitter taste of the chestnuts gives it a sophisticated flavor without being too sweet. I ate the whole thing in no time.
One bite of sweet potato yokan and it melts in your mouth!
With its refined sweetness and faint sweet potato aroma, it feels as if you are eating the sweet potato itself. It is full of the deliciousness of the ingredients and is very satisfying to eat.
We want you to pay attention not only to the deliciousness of Chestnut Kinton and Sweet Potato Yokan, but also to their calories!
Each chestnut kinton is 62 kcal, each potato yokan is 79 kcal, so the total is 141 kcal. A cup of rice (about 150g) is said to be about 250 kcal, so it's easy to see that it's low in calories. It's nice to know that you can eat it without feeling guilty.
Lawson's new Japanese sweets are also recommended as tea accompaniments. Please give them a try. (Text by Mirai)
