Costco expert Kosuko's carefully selected 3 sweets and breads that are "delicious and talked about on social media!"
Hello! I'm Kosuko, a housewife who loves the members-only warehouse store Costco.
Costco has a wide selection of products that are hard to find in regular supermarkets. Especially recently, it seems like it's becoming a trend that many people are gathering information on social media.
So, this time I'd like to introduce three Costco products that are gaining popularity, especially on social media.
Crispy churros!? "Turtle Chips Chocolate Churros Flavor"
"Turtle Chips Chocolate Churro Flavor 80g x 8 bags" (1,198 yen) are often seen piled high in the sweets section. This product is made by Market O, a popular Korean chocolate confectionery manufacturer.
As the name suggests, Turtle Chips are snacks shaped like a turtle shell. They come in a chocolate churro flavor, which is rare in Japan.
Korea is in the midst of a "churro boom," and not only churros themselves but also "churro-flavored snacks" are popular. The trend has also reached Japan, where these snacks are gaining popularity, especially among young people.
These imported sweets are a little pricey if you buy them in Japan, but at Costco, they are imported directly from overseas and sold in bulk by the box, so you can get them at a great deal.
It contains 8 individually wrapped bags of snacks, each weighing 80g. Each bag is the perfect size for one person, so it's easy to open.
The inside is bite-sized, so you can pick it up with your fingers. The chips are layered and tightly coated with chocolate. The surface is also sprinkled with fragrant cinnamon sugar. It's so delicious!
The taste is just like a light and crunchy chocolate churro!
It's a rather strange sweet that has the texture of a snack but tastes like a churro when you put it in your mouth.
The chocolate coating is solid but not too sweet, with a soft chocolate flavor and cinnamon aroma that leaves an impression. The sweet flavor and fragrant aroma of cinnamon sugar is stronger than the chocolate flavor, and by the time the first bite goes down your throat, it really does taste like a churro.
Definitely recommend for anyone who likes churros.
It's a sweet that feels like something you've never seen before, and once you start eating it, you'll be hooked! It's no wonder it's so popular.
I love that it's individually wrapped! "HAWAIIAN HOST Dried Mango Chocolate Assortment Bag"
This "HAWAIIAN HOST Dried Mango Chocolate Assortment Bag 400g" (1,858 yen) is a product of a confectionery manufacturer famous for Hawaiian souvenirs. The tips of the dried mango are coated with chocolate, making it a stylish snack that looks and tastes great.
The large ziplock bag contains 40 individually wrapped mango chocolates. There are 20 chocolate and 20 white chocolates, so you can choose according to your mood and preference.
The individual packaging with the Hawaiian Host logo is also cute! The Hawaiian-like design will lift your spirits.
First of all, the dried mango itself is delicious. The fruity sweetness and sourness of the mango and the not-too-sweet elegant aroma and richness of the chocolate go perfectly together, making you want to eat as many as you can. Only half of the mango is covered in chocolate, so you can enjoy two different flavors in one, which is a nice touch.
Of course you can eat a little at a time as a reward to yourself, but it's also a big hit when you give it to guests! People always ask me, "Where can I buy this? In Hawaii?", but you can actually buy it at any Costco in Japan.
Another plus point is that each one is individually wrapped, so they can be stored hygienically and are also useful as a portable snack.
Addictively delicious! "KIRKLAND SIGNATURE 21-grain organic bread"
Costco's private brand bread "KIRKLAND SIGNATURE 21 Grain Organic Bread 765g x 2" (998 yen). Unlike ordinary bread, this is 21 grain. In other words, it is bread that is kneaded with 21 types of grains and plant seeds.
There's an image that the more varieties there are of bread containing whole grains, the more nutrients you can get and the healthier it is! But even so, don't you think 21 varieties is a bit too many?
It contains a wide variety of ingredients, from the standard grains used in multigrain bread, such as whole wheat, oats, barley, rye, millet, and whole wheat flour, to less familiar seeds such as sunflower seeds, white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, and kettle seeds, as well as spelt flour, Khorasan flour, amaranth flour, Red Fife flour, and organic brown rice flour.
All of the raw materials, including those mentioned here, are organic.
Just by looking at the surface of the bread, you can see that it is covered with a variety of grains and seeds of different sizes and shapes and colors.
Each bag contains two 2-loaf loaves of bread, with a total weight of 1.5kg! Although each loaf is smaller than your average loaf of bread, it is much heavier than it looks.
Each sheet is cut to a thickness of about 1.5 cm, so there is no need to cut it yourself.
The thickness is about the same as that of a typical square Japanese loaf of bread, with 8 slices. The crumb (inner layer) is generally brownish, and if you look closely, you can see that various grains and seeds are kneaded into the center.
The dough itself has a slightly sweet taste. The more you chew it, the more different flavors and textures appear and disappear, from the roughly crushed crunchy type to the ones that can be easily crushed, and the ones with the characteristic nutty chewiness. It's a truly mysterious texture.
It's difficult to describe because there are so many different flavors and textures in one bite, but it's an incredibly flavorful, addictively delicious bread.
It's delicious as is, but I personally recommend toasting it! Toasting it brings out the fragrant, nutty flavor of the grains, makes the outside crispy, and the inside moist and chewy, making it even more delicious.
Some people may not be used to the taste or texture of this foreign bread, but this is what Costco is all about! It is a popular item that is especially popular among women who are conscious about their health and beauty.
