A must-stop on your drive along Ashiya Coast! "The only place in Fukuoka Prefecture where you can taste this delicious, rich soft serve ice cream" (Onga District)

My name is Aoki Ura and I moved to Kitakyushu City due to my family's job transfer.

This time, we will introduce you to some rich soft serve ice cream that you should definitely try when driving around the Ashiya Coast area.

"Hino Sabo Onga Branch" is a tea specialty store located inside the "Toto Market Fish Direct Sales Store" (Ashiya Town, Onga District)

"Hino Sabo Onga Branch" is a shop that roasts its own roasted green tea.

There are three stores under the "Hino Sabo" brand in Fukuoka Prefecture. In addition to the Onga store, there are the "Hino Sabo Houjiya Hakata Riverain Store" and the "Hino Sabo Marche AMU Plaza Kokura Store", but each store carries different products, and only the Onga store has a takeout menu.

It is located about a 10-minute drive from Ashiya Beach in Ashiya-machi, Onga-gun, on the grounds of the Toto Fish Market. In addition to the Onga branch of Hino Sabo, you can purchase fresh fish, vegetables, and meat, enjoy seafood bowls and barbecues, and even shop for gardening supplies.

There is a large private parking lot, so many guests arrive by car.

We recommend the take-out sweets and drinks that can only be enjoyed here in Fukuoka Prefecture.

The lineup includes "Hojicha soft serve ice cream (cup/cone)" (420 yen), "Shiratama cream zenzai (with hojicha powder)" (480 yen), "Hojicha parfait" (750 yen), "Hojicha latte (hot/iced)" (420 yen), "Hojicha chocolate latte (hot/iced)" (480 yen), "Matcha latte (hot/iced)" (420 yen), "Homemade roasted deep roasted hojicha (hot/iced)" (380 yen), and "Herb lemon tea" (hot 380 yen, iced 420 yen). All of these are takeaway menu items, but you can also eat them in the dining area inside "Toto Market".

After ordering and paying at the register, you can wait while looking at the teas on display in the store and tasting some of them.

On this day, we were able to sample the cold "24 Kinds Blended Effective Tea" (400g, 1,296 yen).

Made from 24 carefully selected natural ingredients, it is caffeine-free and contains no preservatives, flavors or colorings. It is said to be the most popular tea with the highest repeat purchase rate.

Because it uses wild plants and herbs, I thought it might taste like herbal tea, which I'm not a big fan of, but it was easy to drink! It had a gentle flavor like grain tea.

The rich-looking "Hojicha Soft Serve Ice Cream" is irresistible! Try the takeout menu

Now, let's try the takeout menu!

This is my favorite "Hojicha Soft Serve Cone" (420 yen). You can also add chocolate sauce or caramel sauce for an additional 40 yen each.

What always surprises me is the color. It looks so rich.

With just one bite, the rich aroma of roasted green tea pairs perfectly with the creamy sweetness of the soft serve ice cream, making it incredibly delicious.

If you like strong tea, you'll definitely like this flavor.

This is the "Hojicha Parfait" (750 yen). Hojicha soft serve ice cream topped with shiratama (rice flour dumplings), azuki beans, cream, and citrus jelly.

Hojicha soft serve ice cream and Japanese toppings are a perfect match, and needless to say, it's delicious.

Both are adult sweets that allow you to fully enjoy the aroma of tea. They also have a refreshing feeling, just like after drinking roasted green tea.

The aroma is amazing! We also recommend our home-roasted "Hojicha" tea.

Be sure to check out the various types of "hojicha" tea leaves roasted at the Onga store.

Their products include "Homemade Deep Roasted Hojicha" (864 yen for 100g), which is roasted at high temperature all at once to bring out its rich aroma and flavor, "Homemade Lightly Roasted Stick Hojicha" (756 yen for 50g), which has the natural sweetness of the stem tea and a hint of roasted aroma, and "Homemade Medicinal Hojicha" (864 yen for 100g), which is a blend of hojicha and 23 kinds of wild herbs and grains.

Each roasted green tea is made with a unique blend of carefully selected tea leaves and stems.

By roasting while steaming, the tea becomes plump and fragrant.

After roasting, the green tea leaves and stems turn dark brown. When you open the can or bag, the fragrant aroma of roasted tea fills the air.

Freshly roasted hojicha has a superb aroma and flavor. Just one sip will make you feel like you're in a good mood.

If you're a tea lover, this is a shop you should definitely stop by. I especially recommend the Hojicha soft serve ice cream! You'll get addicted to the rich flavor! (Text by Aoki Ura)
