A must-visit on your Itoshima drive! A reasonably priced and delicious bakery recommended by locals (Imajuku, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka)

Hello! I'm Hakata Aya, a writer who loves hot information about Fukuoka.

This time we would like to introduce you to a cute seaside bakery that is perfect for stopping by on your drive around Itoshima.

It's a wonderful shop that's loved by locals too.

Hippo Bakery (Imajuku, Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City) - a bakery with a warm and charming atmosphere

About a 4-minute walk from JR Imajuku Station. Head north at the "Imajuku Ekimae" traffic light on National Route 202 and turn down the narrow alleyway, and you will see Hippo Bakery along Nagatare Coast.

The road is quite narrow, so please proceed with caution if you are coming by car. There is a parking lot in front of the store.

It opened in 2013 and is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. The retro bus stop sign is the perfect landmark.

What's unique is that it looks like a bus timetable, but actually lists the time the bread will be ready to bake!

The log cabin-like interior is warm and very comfortable.

During my stay, customers kept coming into the store, with many purchasing around 10 pieces, indicating how popular the products are.

A wide variety of breads, from sweet to hard, all at reasonable prices!

Breads lined up along the wall.

In addition to "Wiener Bread" (200 yen), "Bean Jam Bread" (230 yen), "Custard Cream Bread" (230 yen), "Curry Bread" (230 yen), etc.,

Prices are generally very reasonable, with items such as "Chocolate Bread" (180 yen), "Milk Bread" (100 yen), and "Scones" (100 yen)!

The "Cranberry Bread" (500 yen) and "Special Mix" (500 yen) come in a pack of 5, making them perfect for breakfast.

The recommended items are the hard ones. In addition to the "Baguette" (350 yen, half 180 yen, quarter 90 yen), there are many other varieties such as "Kurumi France" (half 250 yen, whole 500 yen), "C.C.B" with walnuts, cream cheese and berries (250 yen), "Melange" with dried fruits and nuts (half 210 yen, whole 420 yen), and "Bacon Epi" (250 yen).

They also sell items such as olive oil and coffee that go well with bread.

And there were hippos everywhere in the store! There were lots of hippo-related items, such as paintings and ornaments...the owner must really like hippos!

Tasting the unique breads! My favorite is the hippo patterned melon bread♪

This is the palm-sized "Garlic France" (130 yen).

When you think of garlic French bread, you probably think of a long, thin piece of French bread, but this round loaf is just the right size for when you're feeling a bit hungry. And the reasonable price of 130 yen is a plus.

It contains two whole cloves of garlic, giving it a strong garlicky flavor!

My recommendation is the "Melon Bread" (230 yen).

If you look closely, you can see the profile of a hippopotamus on top of the melon bread! You can see the attention to detail, which makes it a treat for the eyes as well as the taste. It's also fun to see how the hippo appears slightly different depending on how well it's baked.

The outside is crispy and the inside is soft and chewy - it's delicious! The subtle sweetness is soothing.

There is an eat-in space inside the store, so you can eat the bread you purchase on the spot.

Try it with our "Iced Coffee" (400 yen)!

On a sunny day, it would be nice to spend some relaxing time with a cup of coffee on the beach right in front of you. (Text by Hakata Aya.)
