A sky restaurant 123 meters above ground! A luxurious afternoon tea lunch with sushi as the main dish (Jigyohama, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)
Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.
This time, we will introduce you to an afternoon tea-style lunch where sushi is the main attraction, which can be enjoyed on the top floor of the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk.
The restaurant closest to the sky in Fukuoka!? "Sushi Kappo Tomoduna" on the top floor of the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk (Jigyohama, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)
Sushi Kappo Tomoduna is located on the top floor (35th floor) of the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk.
Located 123 meters above ground, it is also known as "the restaurant closest to the sky in Fukuoka." The view from the windows is beautiful and captivating.
The restaurant has table seating as well as counter seats where you can watch the sushi being made up close.
The "Ocean View Seats" are special table seats where you can enjoy your meal while looking out over the Fukuoka cityscape and the ocean below.
Enjoying a meal while looking at a beautiful view is a very special and luxurious experience.
Lunch only! Sushi Afternoon Tea "Hualien"
This time, I ordered the lunch menu "Karen" (normal seat 5,800 yen, ocean view seat 6,000 yen *both per person), which is only available from 12:00 to 14:30 (last entry at 14:00).
This new menu, which started on June 21, 2023, is a "Sushi Afternoon Tea" that comes with "6 types of sushi" and "4 types of sweets," each delivered in a wooden box.
The main sushi is prepared by a chef who has demonstrated his skills in numerous hotels and sushi restaurants.
The sushi prepared by the head chef is a delicate and carefully prepared masterpiece that brings out the best in the seafood.
If you sit at the counter, you'll be entertained with light-hearted conversation.
From here, I will give you a detailed introduction to what Hualien was like on the day I visited (the content may change depending on the season).
The first wooden box contains a beautifully arranged appetizer, five pieces of sushi, and cocktail sushi.
Appetizers
There are three types of appetizers available, all made with vegetables from Fukuoka Prefecture, allowing you to enjoy the seasonal flavors.
They are all light and easy to eat, so you can munch on them before eating your sushi. They also look beautiful, and leave you feeling happy.
Five pieces of sushi
There are five carefully selected sushi pieces in total, with the toppings changing depending on the season.
This is seasonal white fish and salmon.
The white meat on this day was fish bones. It was very fresh and had a refreshing taste. The rice, which was slightly seasoned with red vinegar, went perfectly with the topping. Incidentally, the rice on this day was a blend of koshihikari rice grown on the rice terraces of Saga. Please pay attention to the flavor and texture of the rice.
The carefully braided salmon melts slowly in your mouth.
This is tuna, prawns, and squid.
The tuna served with caviar is a dish that shows the chef's skill, with a harmonious balance of the flavor of the special sauce and the freshness of the tuna.
The chewy and sweet tiger prawns are paired with a refreshing yuzu flavor.
The moment you bite into the soft squid, the rich flavor of sesame oil fills your mouth. The plum paste on top is perfectly seasoned, and I was impressed!
Cocktail Sushi
The cocktail sushi was not only beautiful to look at, but also delicious.
This luxurious dish is made up of layers of tuna, avocado, salmon, shredded egg and topped with salmon roe and sea urchin.
I was able to enjoy the variety of flavors and textures, and the combination of each ingredient was excellent when I put it in my mouth.
Next, the second wooden box contains two seasonal sweets and a choice of two Japanese sweets.
Two seasonal sweets
The seasonal sweets are from the "Sky Afternoon Tea" at Bar & Dining CLOUDS, also located on the 35th floor. You can enjoy artistic sweets created by Executive Pastry Chef Ashutosh Kumar.
This is the "Vanilla Pecan Choux with Pecan Praline." This is a masterpiece that combines the fragrantly baked, mild-tasting choux pastry with the melting cream.
This "Matcha and Yuzu Roll Cake" is a fusion of Japanese and Western styles created by a chef who loves yuzu. The astringent matcha and the refreshing aroma of yuzu make for a flavorful and memorable taste.
Choose from 2 types of Japanese sweets
You can choose from a wide variety of two types of Japanese sweets.
You can enjoy the delicate and carefully prepared Japanese flavors, which are the perfect way to end your sushi afternoon tea.
By the way, the tea used in the sushi afternoon tea is Yame tea from Hoshinomura, Yame City.
The mellow texture was perfect for pairing with sushi and sweets.
An afternoon tea-style lunch where you can enjoy sushi and sweets at the same time while taking in the beautiful scenery of Fukuoka.
All of the items were exquisite masterpieces that were the product of the craftsmanship of the artisans. Please come and experience it for yourself. (Text by CHIHIRO)
