Enjoy your favorite drink for just 100 yen! The best value breakfast (Shimokawabata-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City)
My name is Aoki Ura and I moved to Kitakyushu City due to my family's job transfer.
This time, we will introduce you to a coffee shop that we found in Hakata where you can enjoy the best cold brewed coffee and a great value breakfast set.
You should definitely try it! Sansui Mizudashi Coffee's natural groundwater cold-brewed coffee + breakfast (Shimokawabata-cho, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City)
The name of the shop is "Sansui Mizudashi Coffee." It is a one-minute walk from Exit 7 of Nakasu-Kawabata Station on the Subway Airport Line and Hakozaki Line, and is located on the first floor of the Riverain Center Building. Look for the light green sign.
The hotel is easily accessible, with Hakataza Theater across the street and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum and Nakasu Taiyo Movie Theater within a five-minute walk.
There is also a terrace seating outside the shop, which was bustling with foreign tourists.
Customers start pouring in immediately after the store opens at 9am. The bright, glass-walled interior is comfortable, and many customers come alone.
The signature dish is the "Dutch Coffee (cold brewed coffee)" which is also the name of the shop. It is made using natural groundwater from Mt. Wakasugi (Sasaguri-machi, Kasuya-gun) and is extracted drop by drop using a special dripper.
My recommendation is the "Plus 100 Yen Morning Set," which is available from 9am all day (or until sold out). For just 100 yen on top of the drink price, you get a delicious morning set.
Orders are made at the counter and payment is required up front.
First, choose your favorite drink.
The drinks menu includes coffee dishes such as "Iced Dutch Coffee (Bitter, Original, Decaf)" (from 580 yen), "Dutch Hot Coffee (Bitter Blend, Original, Decaf)" (from 580 yen), "Dutch Latte (Hot, Cold)" (630 yen), and "Organic Soy Milk Latte with Flower Honey (Hot, Cold)" (650 yen), as well as teas such as "Uva Royal Milk Tea (Hot, Cold)" (680 yen) and "Uva Masala Chai (Hot, Cold)" (750 yen), and soft drinks such as "Ginger Ale with Honey" (600 yen), "Yuzu Honey Lemonade" (600 yen), and "Smoothies (Green, Tomato, Pumpkin)" (from 630 yen).
Next, choose the breakfast you want to add.
The "Plus 100 Yen Morning" includes "Egg on Toast." Other items include the "Baked Baguette" for an additional 200 yen on top of the drink price, and the "Jambon Pool" and "Homemade Tuna and Shiso Baguette Sandwich" for an additional 400 yen.
After ordering, choose a table and sit down to wait.
Is it really only 100 yen? Let's enjoy the best value breakfast!
On this day, I ordered "Iced Dutch Coffee (Original)" (580 yen) and the morning set "Egg on Toast" (+100 yen).
Toast, butter, soft-boiled eggs, and salt are arranged tastefully in the basket. The wooden spoons and butter knives are also cute.
There is salt inside the kaishi. You can open the kaishi and put it directly into the soft-boiled egg, which is very convenient.
Put a soft-boiled egg on buttered toast.
The crispy toast and rich egg yolk go perfectly together.
When I have a leisurely breakfast at a cafe, it tastes better than the food I normally eat at home (laughs).
You'll want to drink it both hot and iced! Special Dutch coffee
I also had the "Iced Dutch Coffee (Original)".
Dutch coffee (cold brewed coffee) is extracted over a long period of time without the addition of heat. Compared to coffee extracted with hot water, the oils in the coffee beans are not dissolved as much, resulting in a clean, mellow taste without any unpleasant flavors.
The vessels are apparently "hammered copperware" from Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture.
I chose the "original" beans because I wanted to experience the true taste of cold brewed coffee, but if you want to add milk, I also recommend the "bitter" beans.
These are "Dutch Hot Coffee (Original)" (580 yen) and "Egg on Toast" (+100 yen).
The bubbles are there because the Dutch coffee, which has been extracted over a long period of time, is heated and stirred with steam from a special machine.
It has a soft and gentle taste, and even though it uses the same "original" beans, it has a completely different flavor from iced coffee.
The cups used for both hot and iced coffee are carefully designed, making your cafe time even more enjoyable.
For just an additional 100 yen, you can have a delicious cold brewed coffee (or any other drink) in the morning. It's sure to make your breakfast even more special than usual!
If you like coffee, please come and try it! (Text by Aoki Ura)
