[5-minute walk from Kokura Station] A special feeling of eating at the counter! A yakitori restaurant specializing in courses (Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Hello everyone. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.

This time, we will introduce a yakitori restaurant in the Kokura area where you can enjoy yakitori at the counter.

A high-end, sophisticated space! Toritaka, a yakitori restaurant specializing in courses where you can enjoy yakitori at the counter (Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Toritaka is located in Uomachi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City, about a 5-minute walk from JR Kokura Station and about a 1-minute walk from Heiwadori Station on the Kitakyushu Monorail.

It is located on the second floor of a building called "Vazari Kokura," which has this distinctive exterior as its landmark.

The interior of the restaurant is a luxurious space with only spacious counter seats.

The menu is set course only, and reservations are required. Watching from the counter while the food is prepared is an exciting experience.

The reason for choosing a counter-style yakitori restaurant is that the owner, Mr. Furumori, loves to enjoy yakitori at the counter.

Originally, this location was used as an izakaya specializing in Miyazaki Jidori chicken until August 2022, but it will reopen as "Tori Takashi" on October 1, 2022. At the 10th anniversary, it has become a restaurant where the food is prepared right in front of you.

The yakitori is made using Miyazaki Prefecture's brand "Miyazaki Jitokko".

Another nice feature is that the grill is a smokeless duct, so the smell doesn't linger on your clothes or hair.

Reservations required! "ToriTakashi's proud full course" with around 20 dishes

The current menu consists of only one, "ToriTakashi's Pride Full Course" (7,700 yen per person, minimum order is 2 people). From mid-July, the number of courses will increase to three, which is something to look forward to.

The contents of "ToriTakashi's Proud Full Course" change every month. You can enjoy around 20 original dishes made with carefully selected ingredients.

I'll tell you about what I ate that day.

Seasonal Chawanmushi

Following the assorted chicken sashimi was the seasonal chawanmushi.

When you open the lid, you'll see flower petals scattered all over it, making it very gorgeous!

A simple chawanmushi that makes the most of the ingredients' flavor is topped with a sauce made from seasonal ingredients. On this day, the sauce was made from new onions.

The eggs contain scamorza cheese, giving them a mellow, rich flavor that is irresistible.

Yakitori and salad

Next came the yakitori and salad. They were brought to our table in a display case before being grilled and plated.

The salad served on a plate is packed with vegetables and edible flowers from Kajitani Farm in Hiroshima!

It's a colorful, vibrant and visually stunning salad.

Rust Burning

All of the yakitori is grilled to perfection, and we recommend eating it with the condiments that are placed on the table.

The first one is "Sabiyaki", chicken breast topped with wasabi.

The meat is moist and tender, and the more you chew it, the more delicious it becomes. The mild flavor of wasabi adds a nice accent.

ginkgo

The steamy ginkgo nuts have a slightly chewy texture that will become addictive.

quail eggs

The delicious, melt-in-your-mouth flavor of these quail eggs is irresistible. They have a firm texture on the outside and a soft, gooey texture on the inside!

A mellow flavor spreads in your mouth.

New bamboo shoots

When I visited, the seasonal ingredient was "fresh bamboo shoots."

It uses bamboo shoots from Fukuoka Prefecture, and I was impressed by its crisp texture.

Shin

The shank is a firm cut of meat that is chewy and releases delicious flavor the more you chew it.

It was even more delicious when eaten with fragrant green onions.

Chicken breast

The outside is crispy and fragrantly grilled "Seseri".

The natural flavor and sweetness of the meat is irresistible. This dish is so tasty you'll want more.

Sled

With "Sori," you can enjoy the contrast between the crispy, savory flavor of the grilled meat and the moist, tender texture of the meat.

Local chicken skin

The "local chicken skin" was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I was impressed by the savory flavor.

Chicken Takashi can

Toritaka Can is an exciting treat to open.

There is something inside the can, but what is inside is a surprise... you'll have to wait until you get there!

Lantern

The last yakitori dish is "Chochin".

When you put it in your mouth, the rich egg yolk fills your mouth with a popping sound, allowing you to savor its mellow flavor.

TKG with minced chicken topped with egg sauce

The final rice dish is "TKG", minced chicken topped with egg sauce.

This is a gorgeous dish topped with salmon roe and caviar.

The minced chicken rice and the fluffy, mellow egg yolk sauce went perfectly together. It was the perfect way to finish off a meal.

The soup stock flavored "soup bowl" contained chicken meatballs and was very delicious.

The cakes are made with bear monaka (a type of wafer) stuffed with mild-tasting homemade cheese and seasonal fruits.

In addition to the dishes introduced this time, there are many other dishes on the menu, including meat sushi, making this a very satisfying course.

Also check out the photogenic drinks that you'll want to order at least once!

Toritaka also offers a wide variety of drinks. One that stands out is the Toritaka Specialty Photogenic Cocktail, which comes in a surprisingly large glass (300 yen more than the regular drink price).

This time I ordered the "Kyushu Dekopon Sour" (550 yen) (850 yen).

I was surprised at how big it was, it seemed to be several times the size of my face! The impact it made when it appeared was incredible.

When you're ready to drink, they'll transfer it to a glass for you. The edible flowers were also stylish.
