This time, we will introduce you to a restaurant in Tenjin where you can quickly enjoy skewered tempura and baked xiaolongbao.
Right in the heart of Tenjin! A quick stop at Shokudo Maruni, a restaurant serving skewered tempura and baked xiaolongbao (bamboo dumplings) (Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City)
Located in the heart of Tenjin, on the second basement floor of Solaria Stage, Shokudo Maruni is known for its delicious skewered tempura and baked xiaolongbao. The restaurant opened on January 18, 2022.
It is located just a short walk from both the Tenjin subway station and the Nishitetsu Fukuoka Tenjin station, making it easy to drop in.
There are 16 seats at the counter inside the store. When I visited, I got the impression that many people, both men and women, were using the store alone.
There are also table seats so you can relax at your leisure.
In addition to skewered tempura and baked xiaolongbao, the restaurant also offers other attractive items, such as fruit sours made with plenty of seasonal fruits and original tempura.
Orders are placed using a touch panel on the table.
Let me introduce the menu items I ordered this time.
Packed with seasonal fruits! A spectacular "bottled fruit sour"
The first thing that attracted me was the "Bottled Fruit Sour" (638 yen each), which uses plenty of seasonal fruits.
On this day, there were four types available: "Amaou Strawberry Sour," "Yamanashi Grape Sour," "Grated Kiwi Sour," and "Mango Sour."
You can also order it non-alcoholic.
The glass and the bottle containing the drink arrive separately.
It's fun to open the bottle caps yourself, and the illustrations of the glasses and bottles are cute!
The glass that was brought to me was filled with an amazing amount of seasonal fruits!
It was rumbling inside and I felt happy.
By the way, during happy hour on Mondays and Thursdays from 11am to 7pm, Bottled Fruit Sours are half price at 319 yen!

Crispy and healthy fried "Kushi Tempura"
Kushiyaki tempura, made with fresh ingredients personally selected by the store manager, is available for as little as 99 yen per skewer.
This time I ordered the "Standard Skewer Tempura Platter" (748 yen).
This is a must-order dish topped with domestic chicken breast, shrimp, whiting, and two kinds of vegetables.
The use of rapeseed oil makes the tempura crispy and light, and it's healthy and won't upset your stomach.
There are two types of tempura sauce: "Kyushu-style" tempura sauce, which uses sweet soy sauce from Kyushu, and "Kansai-style" tempura sauce, which uses light soy sauce.
Their attention to detail in the flavor of the tempura sauce, which brings out the best in the tempura ingredients, is truly impressive!
There is also rock salt, matcha salt, plum and shiso salt on the table, so you can enjoy it according to your preference.
Enjoy 4 different flavors! "Baked Xiaolongbao"
The specialty baked Xiaolongbao are "Maruni's Baked Xiaolongbao" (photo below), "Black Sesame Garlic Baked Xiaolongbao", "Spicy Mala Sauce Baked Xiaolongbao", and "Chinese Chive and Bonito Sauce Baked Xiaolongbao" (each one serving of four pieces costs 605 yen).
The dough is a little thick, so it's very satisfying to eat!
It is cooked on a large, custom-made iron plate, so the underside is slightly golden brown.
The meat juice oozing out from the inside is irresistible.
It's filled with plenty of original filling made from chicken and pork.
You must try this! "Creative Tempura"
Another menu item you should definitely check out is the original tempura.
"Mochi Cheese Mentaiko" (528 yen) is a hearty dish of mochi cheese tempura topped with plenty of Hakata's specialty Spicy Fish Eggs. Enjoy it wrapped in nori seaweed.
The fragrant mochi cheese tempura was complemented by the spicy accent of Spicy Fish Eggs.
The "Wagyu Steak" (660 yen) is a masterpiece made from the lean parts of wagyu beef, deep-fried in tempura.
It was cooked to perfection, giving it a soft, moist, and high-quality texture.
"Soft-boiled egg" (380 yen) is a creative tempura with a mild flavor and a soft, melt-in-your-mouth yolk.
The exquisite lightness of the batter and the flavor of the eggs were so delicious that I was likely to become addicted to it.
