An eel restaurant frequented regularly by locals, with crispy skin and soft meat, perfect for celebrations (Kurosaki, Yahata Ward, Kitakyushu City)

My name is Aoki Ura and I moved to Kitakyushu City due to my family's job transfer.

This time, we will introduce an eel restaurant in Kurosaki that is so trusted by local residents that they say it's "the place you want to go for a special celebratory meal" and "the place you want to visit regularly."

An eel restaurant recommended by local residents: Kurosaki Inakaan Hibiya (Kurosaki, Yahata Ward, Kitakyushu City)

Kurosaki Inakaan Hibiya is located in Kurosaki, Yahata ku, Kitakyushu city, about a 5-minute walk from JR Kurosaki Station (south exit).

If you are coming by car, we recommend parking in the "TSK No. 7 Parking Lot" next to the store. Since it is an affiliated parking lot, if you mention it at the time of payment, you will receive a free one-hour ticket.

The exterior of the shop is very calm and has a crisp atmosphere. It's no wonder that my local acquaintances all say, "I want to go here to celebrate my parents' birthdays and other special occasions."

As soon as you enter the store, there is a waiting room.

There, the staff will check the number of people in your group and guide you to the dining area. *Reservations are only available on weekdays, with a limited number of seats (reservations are not available on any days from July to August).

The dining space, which can be seen through the gourd-shaped curtain, is very lovely.

It happened to be Mother's Day, so the place was packed with families.

The menu includes "Kabayaki set meal (Matsu, Take, Ume)" (3,300-5,300 yen), "Unagi rice bowl (Matsu, Take)" (3,900-4,800 yen), "Unagi bowl (Matsu, Take, Ume)" (1,850-3,900 yen), "Steamed eel (Matsu, Take, Ume)" (2,400-4,350 yen), "Shirayaki set meal" (3,900 yen), "Unagi chazuke (eel simmered in Japanese pepper)" (2,500-3,500 yen), "Unagi chazuke (eel simmered in Japanese pepper)" (2,500-3,500 yen), "Unagi rice bowl (Matsu, Take, Ume ... In addition to dishes such as "Oyster rice porridge with green onions" (2,400 yen), the restaurant offers a la carte dishes such as "Kabayaki (Matsu/Take)" (3,600-4,500 yen), "Shirayaki (Matsu/Take)" (1,900-3,600 yen), and "Umaki" (1,850 yen), as well as course meals such as the "Kabayaki Course" (6,800 yen) and "Steamed bamboo course" (6,800 yen).

Delicious! Crispy skin and soft meat in "Unagi-ju"

My husband ordered the "Unagi-ju (Matsu)" (3,900 yen). The lacquered box was beautiful. My expectations were building even before I opened the box.

Six large pieces of eel were served on top of steaming hot rice. The skin was grilled to perfection on a hot grill, giving it a crispy texture.

The soft eel, along with the aroma of charcoal grilling and the sweet and spicy sauce, spreads throughout your mouth, and the only word that comes to mind is "delicious!"

"Steamed in a bamboo steamer" is a delicious dish of hot, fluffy eel and rice cooked in eel sauce.

I ordered the "Steamed bamboo steamer" (3,400 yen). The box was a size larger than the eel box, and it looked very impressive (lol).

When you open the lid, you'll see steaming shredded egg and five pieces of eel arranged in a colorful manner, whet your appetite.

The grilled eel is placed on top of the rice and steamed, so it's piping hot and fluffy. The rice cooked in eel sauce is infused with the flavor and is incredibly delicious.

The "Unagi-ju" and "Steamed Eel" were served with soup and pickles.

The ingredients in the "clear soup" on this day were enoki mushrooms, mizuna, and namafu.

The pickles on this day were pickled turnips. The yellow of the yuzu and the red of the goji berries were beautiful color accents.

The staff were very polite, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the meal was very satisfying.

If you are unsure of what to eat for a "special occasion" or if you have a chance to go to Kurosaki, this is a restaurant you should definitely visit. Highly recommended. (Text by Aoki Ura)
