[5-minute walk from Kokura Station] Lunch and dinner available! A cafe where you can enjoy everything from delicious cutlets to sweets (Asano, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Hello. This is Chihi Log, a casual website that provides information about Fukuoka, with a focus on gourmet food.
This time, we will introduce you to a cafe in the Kokura area where you can enjoy delicious tonkatsu.
Even though it's a coffee shop, you can eat "katsu"! Atsumi Coffee, a cafe just a 5-minute walk from Kokura Station (Asano, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City)
Atsumi Coffee is located in Asano, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City, about a 5-minute walk from the Shinkansen exit (north exit) of JR Kokura Station.
There are two free parking spaces in front of the store, so it is convenient to come by car.
When you enter the store, you'll feel soothed by the warm, wood-toned space.
With spacious table seating,
There are counter seats that are easy for one person to use.
Atsumi Coffee was originally a specialty coffee shop located in Katano, Kokurakita Ward. It moved to its current location in Asano on May 26, 2022, and celebrated its 8th anniversary on May 15, 2023.
With the relocation, the owners decided to start serving "katsuret (tonkatsu)," something they had long dreamed of serving.
The owner was so impressed by the taste of the pork cutlet at the famous Tonkatsu Tonpei restaurant in Ibaraki Prefecture that he traveled 11 hours one way from Fukuoka to Ibaraki to train and create this masterpiece.
Tonkatsu is one of my top three favorite foods, but this was the first time I'd come across such a delicious cutlet in the Kokura area! Since that first time, I've been back here four times in the past month.
The staff are also very warm and welcoming, and I've become a regular customer.
There are no breaks and the restaurant is open all day, but it is divided into three parts: lunch time (11:00-14:00 last order), cafe time (15:00-19:00 last order *Fridays, Saturdays, and days before holidays last order 20:00), and bar time (17:00-19:00 last order *Fridays, Saturdays, and days before holidays last order 20:00). The menu items available at each part are different.
You should try it at least once! The exquisite "Amajuku Premium Loin Cutlet Set"
This time, I ordered the "Amajuku Premium Loin Cutlet Set" (2,068 yen) *Single item is 1,760 yen.
*It takes about 20 minutes to prepare. In some cases, it may be possible to prepare it during lunch time, so please ask.
The set comes with vegetable soup, pickles, cold chawanmushi, konjac, and rice (in the photo below, the rice has been replaced with bamboo shoot steamed rice).
The thick cutlet, made with "Specially Selected Nanshu Pork," has a crispy batter, moist meat, and the sweetness of the fat that is irresistible.
The bar time menu also includes the "Sweet and Ripe Pork Loin Cutlet Set" (1,738 yen * 1,430 yen a la carte), which uses the same "Specially Selected Nanshu Pork", but the top loin cutlet has more marbling and is of higher quality and volume!
First, leave it as it is without adding anything.
After that, we recommend trying different dipping sauces such as the special sauce, Kagoshima's sweet soy sauce, salt made from deep ocean water from the Indochina Sea, wasabi, and Japanese mustard to vary the flavor.
By the way, here's a secret trick that a staff member told me!
There is a vending machine for frozen foods near the entrance of "Atsumi Coffee", and if you order the "Amajuku Premium Pork Cutlet Set", you can change the white rice in the set to the frozen "Ouma Bamboo Shoot Rice" (200g 680 yen) at no extra charge. When ordering, be sure to tell them you want the "Frozen Food Set"!
The rich flavor of the bamboo shoots and the chewy texture of the rice are truly impressive.
On another day, I also tried the white rice, which was also incredibly delicious! It uses rice from Sanko, Nakatsu City, and was glossy and moist.
This vegetable soup is packed with 6-7 kinds of seasonal vegetables. More than half the pot is filled with vegetables, so it's packed with the delicious flavor of the vegetables.
You can have seconds of the white rice and vegetable soup, so I always end up having seconds!
This cold chawanmushi has a smooth texture and a light taste.
The small bowl of konnyaku is also very flavorful and delicious! The ginger and black sesame seeds add a nice accent.
By the way, the weight of the cutlet varies depending on the menu. For example, the lunchtime "Amajuku Loin Cutlet Lunch" is around 110g, the bartime "Amajuku Loin Cutlet Set" (1,738 yen, pictured below) is around 140-150g, and the "Amajuku Premium Loin Cutlet Set" (2,068 yen) is around 160g.
Chateau Lettre Hiraodai is a sweet created with the image of Hiraodai, a tourist spot in Kitakyushu.
During cafe time, you can enjoy original coffee-based sweets and other treats.
Among these, the one with the highest repeat rate is "Cha Lettre Hiraodai" (990 yen, drink set 1,430 yen).
This dessert was created with the image of Hiraodai, a tourist spot in Kitakyushu, in mind. It consists of coffee soft serve and pound cake topped with plenty of pistachio sauce.
The original coffee soft serve, which was created after trying out dozens of different flavors, is an exquisite harmony of pistachios! The pound cake contains berries, so you can enjoy the different textures.
The words "Atsumi Coffee" are written on the bottom of the coffee bean container! It's a fun, playful touch.
Take-out is also available! Be sure to check out the original coffee soft serve!
Drinks made with original coffee soft serve are also popular.
This is an irresistible drink for coffee lovers, made with an exquisite blend of home-roasted coffee and milk.
Triple Coffee Soft Serve
"Triple Coffee Soft" (750 yen) is iced coffee with coffee jelly inside.
The coffee jelly, made using the slightly bitter, dark roasted "Atsumi Blend," and the rich flavor of the coffee soft serve are irresistible.
Jelly au lait soft serve
The "Jelly Au Lait Soft" (750 yen) has a mild, mild flavor.
The milk contains the same coffee jelly as the "Triple Coffee Soft", giving it a deep flavor.
Don't miss the authentic home-roasted coffee!
Of course, authentic home-roasted coffee is also a must.
The staff at Atsumi Coffee are so skilled that they were selected as finalists in a national hand-dripping competition.
Be sure to try the "Cold Brewed Coffee" (660 yen), which is perfect for the upcoming season.
The coffee and sweets are of course delicious, but once you try the cutlet you'll be hooked! Please come and visit us. (Text by CHIHIRO)
