Shaved ice without ice?! A stylish old-style cafe where you can enjoy the fluffy, new texture of this popular dessert (Kurume City)
Hello. I'm ayu.latte, a writer who loves delicious sweets.
We'll introduce you to some cool sweets that are perfect for the upcoming season!
Reopening! A lovely old-style cafe, "QQQ KURUME" (Daizenji-cho, Kurume City)
This time we visited "QQQ KURUME" in Daizenjicho, Kurume City. This specialty sweets shop, with its main store in Osaka, makes its signature dish original "ice sweets."
Since June 2022, we have been operating as a daytime only restaurant at Sumi to Sake Nikumajin in Fujimitsu, Kurume City, but in February 2023 we moved to Daizenjicho.
It is about a 15-minute walk from Nishitetsu Daizenji Station, about a 3-minute walk from the Nishitetsu Bus stop Otsuka, and is close to the Otsuka-Gongenzuka Kofun.
The new restaurant is located in a traditional Japanese house that is 100 years old!
Once you enter the store, you will be enveloped in the gentle atmosphere that only a traditional Japanese house can offer.
In addition to large and small table seats, there are also sofa seats. The open design is spacious. The interior is also tasteful, with an old sewing machine table and a foot organ.
Fluffy, fluffy and delicious! Shaved ice without ice
QQQ is famous for its "ice-free shaved ice" or "ice sweets."
No ice is used because the milk liquid is instantly frozen in a special machine and then shaved into powder.
It has a strange fluffy and soft texture ♡
There are usually about six different kinds of "Ice Sweets." The classics are "Brown Honey Kinako Kintoki" (720 yen), "Strawberry Milk" (750 yen), and "Caramel Coffee" (750 yen).
On this day, the seasonal flavors available were "Blueberry & Mascarpone" (750 yen), "Mango Milk" (750 yen), and "Uji Matcha Kintoki" (750 yen).
In spring they will have the "Sakura Strawberry" flavor shown in the photo, and in autumn they will have sweet potato menu items.
The highlight is the great value "Selectable Set" (1,000 yen). It includes your choice of ice sweets, grilled dango (grilled mitarashi or three-color dango) (180 yen each), and a drink (from 300 yen each)!
"Yakidango (yaki mitarashi or three-color dango)" can be changed to "Mokaron" (250 yen each) for an additional 50 yen. "Drink" will be +50 yen if you choose "Gyokuro", "Lemonade", or "Cafe Latte" (350 yen each).
The most popular is "Strawberry Milk"
This is a "Selectable Set" and includes the options of "Strawberry Milk," "Mokaron," and "Gyokuro."
First up is the "Strawberry Milk." Milk ice topped with plenty of homemade strawberry syrup! It had a rich strawberry flavor and was very delicious.
The cookies and ice cubes with the shop's character on them were also great. It was a very satisfying taste.
This is "Mokaron", a cute mochi that looks like a macaron.
You can choose from three types of bean paste: "Anko Butter", "Zunda", and "Sweet Potato" (pictured is "Anko Butter").
Two-colored rice dumplings are also sandwiched in between the two. The crispness of the mochi is delightful! It's also very filling.
The "Gyokuro" is produced by Yame tea farm "Harada Tea Farm" in Chikugo City.
By the way, there are five types of tea on the menu: Gyokuro, Premium Sencha, Hojicha, Genmaicha, and Rooibos.
You pour the tea yourself from the teapot. The first brew is slightly sweet and full of umami. The second brew is steeped for a longer time, which brings out the bitterness and astringency, allowing you to enjoy the change in flavor.
"Uji Matcha Kintoki" available for a limited time until summer
This is the "Selectable Set" and includes the choices of "Uji Matcha Kintoki," "Yaki Mitarashi," and "Lemonade."
"Uji Matcha Kintoki" is a fluffy matcha milk ice topped with matcha sauce, more matcha sprinkled on top, bean paste and two-colored dumplings. It is finished off with popped rice!
The bittersweetness of the matcha and the moderate sweetness of the matcha milk ice are a perfect match! You can also change the flavor with the red bean paste, so you won't get bored until the very end.
The crunchiness of the popped rice also adds a nice accent.
"Yaki Mitarashi" is made with domestically produced glutinous rice and has a fluffy and chewy texture. It is delicious when mixed with the sweet and spicy mitarashi sauce.
"Lemonade" is made by mixing homemade lemon syrup with soda. It also contains honey, so it was slightly sweet and delicious.
Take-out is also available
Sweets such as shaved ice are also available for take-out.
You can also purchase tea bags of the Harada Tea Garden tea served at the shop.
