[Day trip hot springs near Fukuoka] Recommended by a hot spring sommelier! Beautiful skin water and unique saunas are a highlight (Saga City)
Traveling to faraway places for an overnight stay is great, but sometimes you just want to enjoy a quick, out-of-the-ordinary experience with the same enthusiasm as going out.
And what you'll long for as the cold season approaches is a warm hot spring.
So, I, Tsubaki King, a writer who is a certified "Hot Spring Sommelier" (certified by the Hot Spring Sommelier Association), will introduce some recommended hot springs that you can visit on a day trip from Fukuoka city!
This time, it's a must-see for sauna lovers in particular.
A one-of-a-kind, extraordinary experience! Saga no Yudokoro Komorebi, a day-trip hot spring facility with natural hot spring water (Saga City)
"Saga no Yudokoro Komorebi" (hereafter referred to as "Komorebi") is located about an hour's drive from Fukuoka city and a five-minute drive from JR Saga Station. In addition to the Kyushu Expressway, you can also get there by taking the Higashi-Sefuri Tunnel or the Mitsuse Pass route, and the drive while enjoying the mountain scenery that changes with the seasons will enhance your "tripping experience."

Komorebi is a hot spring with free-flowing spring water. There are eight baths, both indoors and outdoors, and there are a wide variety of baths to choose from, from calming hot water without jet baths, to electric baths, highly concentrated carbonated springs, rock baths, and tub baths, so you'll never get bored!
The admission fee for adults is 980 yen on weekdays and 1,180 yen on weekends and holidays, which includes the sauna. Children under the age of three are not allowed in the large public bath, so they should use the family bath (a separate fee of 2,000 yen or more is required for the family bath room on top of the admission fee).
Payment is made using an IC tag attached to the shoe locker key, which can be used to pay for everything in the building, including vending machines and restaurants.
The bathroom interior is unified in chic tones, creating a calm atmosphere.

A bright and lively super sento is fun, but it's also the perfect space for those who want to spend some time in peace and tranquility!

There is also a rest room where you can lie down and relax.
Your skin will be smooth! Why it's called "beautiful skin bath"
The water quality is sodium bicarbonate spring water.
The sodium and carbon dioxide soften the surface of the skin, lifting and washing away dirt, leaving your skin feeling smooth and silky after your bath.
The pH value, which indicates the degree of acidity or alkalinity, is 8.6, which means that it is an alkaline hot spring, and has the effect of dissolving sebum and dead skin cells.
The temperature of the hot spring is 44-45 degrees, and the flow rate is ample at 625 liters per minute, so there is no need to heat or add water, and the hot spring ingredients are less likely to escape or become diluted.

You can see why "Komorebi" is so popular as a "beautiful skin bath."
Truly "Komorebi" (lit. sunlight filtering through the air)! A semi-open-air bath that you can stay in for as long as you like.
Personally, I highly recommend the semi-open-air bath! The bathtub is located outside, just outside the indoor bath, but there is a ceiling above your head.
In other words, the design allows you to enjoy the pleasant breeze outside while being protected from direct sunlight!
Bamboo trees are planted along the boundary between the facility and the outdoors, allowing sunlight to shine through as "komorebi" (light filtering through the trees), as the facility's name suggests. At night, the moon and stars can be seen peeking through the gaps in the bamboo treetops.

According to Shinsuke Okuno of Yudokoro Co., Ltd., which operates Komorebi, "Our company's chairman designed it with the concept of a relaxing space for adults, and with the desire to create a landscape that looks like a painting."
It truly feels like standing in front of a tranquil and mysterious painting. This extraordinary feeling is one of a kind!
Special programs are also available! A spacious Finnish sauna with a large theater
Komorebi opened in April 2022, right in the middle of the sauna boom.
This store is also equipped with enough facilities to impress any sauna lover.
First of all, its size. The men's sauna is a three-tiered stadium-style structure that can fit around 30 people.

Although not as spacious as the men's bath, the sauna in the women's bath is also spacious.

In both the men's and women's saunas, you can enjoy auto-loyly, where aromatic water is automatically sprayed onto the sauna stones once an hour from 10:00 (8:00 on Sundays and holidays) to 23:00.
And right in front of you are two giant screens! (The women's sauna has one screen.)
Television is usually broadcast here, but on Wednesdays and Sundays there are special programs.
"We broadcast space footage and relaxing healing music produced by a specialized company in Fukuoka called Sound and Video Co., Ltd. We also paid special attention to the placement of the speakers," says Okuno.
Baths and saunas are also highly valued as a form of digital detox, as they require you to step away from your smartphone. So perhaps exposing yourself to these images and music will further enhance your mental detox.
We will also be holding "Aufguss," an entertaining way to enjoy saunas!
The charm of this establishment lies in its quiet, mature atmosphere, but in contrast, it also offers a dynamic and fun time. Multiple Aufguss events are held every day!
Aufguss is a service that involves pouring water onto heated sauna stones to create steam (called "löyly"), which is then stirred with a towel or other object, spreading heat waves throughout the sauna room and instantly raising the perceived temperature.
There are also special "Premium Aufguss" sessions, where nationally renowned Aufgisser (heat wave master) are invited.

Sometimes an Aufgiser will appear to perform a dance using towels in sync with the music and video, and customers can join in the fun and clap along, making it a highly entertaining sauna experience!
To begin with, the sauna at Komorebi is set at a high temperature of 95 degrees, which is enough to satisfy even the most avid sauna enthusiasts, so if you add Aufguss to the mix, you're sure to be sweating profusely!
*Please ask the staff for the dates and times of Aufguss.
New women-only "barrel sauna" now available
Also noteworthy is the sauna, which is only available to women.
Introduced in May 2025 is the "barrel sauna," a large barrel placed in the open-air space.

This small sauna can fit about four people and allows for self-loyly. Because the space is small, even a small amount of loyly will instantly raise the perceived temperature!
It's a private experience, so you can sweat it out and get in the zone without worrying about other people looking at you!
Refresh your whole body in a deep water bath!
Of course there is the sauna, but my recommendation is the surprisingly deep cold water bath in the open-air space!
At its deepest point, it's probably about 150cm.
If the cold bath is shallow, you may not be able to get in up to your shoulders depending on how crowded it is, but with this depth you don't have to worry about that.
After heating up thoroughly, cooling down thoroughly in a deep water bath will greatly increase the depth of relaxation!
According to Okuno, "It was designed to ensure a smooth flow from sauna to cold bath to outdoor bathing."
When visiting a facility for the first time, you may miss out on the relaxation time while walking around looking for the outdoor bathing space after the cold bath, but at Komorebi you can easily find the outdoor bathing space.
Enjoy the hot springs known for their skin-beautifying properties, soak in the water while taking in picturesque scenery, and even enjoy the ultimate sauna!
Personally, I feel like it has everything you could want. It's also possible to make a day trip from Fukuoka, and I highly recommend it! (Text by Mr. tsubaking)
