The shortest route to the extraordinary! Recommended accommodations and hotels for weekend trips <Fukuoka Prefecture>

2025.09.17

Hello. I'm YOKO, a travel and food writer.

As a travel writer for 29 years, I have visited countless accommodations, and today I would like to introduce to you "recommended accommodations and hotels in Fukuoka Prefecture for short weekend trips."

We have selected five places that are within easy reach and will give you a sense of something out of the ordinary and a feeling of being pampered.

Escape from your busy daily routine and head to a lodging where you can refresh your mind and body. Be sure to use this as inspiration for your next trip!

"NOT A HOTEL FUKUOKA" - an urban condominium where you can "stay like you're living" (Omiya, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City)

NOT A HOTEL offers a villa service that allows you to own unique architecture by world-renowned architects and creators for as long as you need, starting from 10 nights a year.

There are currently eight locations open across the country, and among them, "NOT A HOTEL FUKUOKA" was overseen by Kundo Koyama and was created as NOT A HOTEL's first urban condominium. Each room has an owner, but non-owners can also use it as a hotel for general guests (as of September 2025, reservations are only available at FUKUOKA). It's also conveniently located in the city center, about a 10-minute walk from Nishitetsu Yakuin Station and a 7-minute walk from Hirao Station!

Not only are the rooms well-equipped, but the amenities are also plentiful, so you can stay comfortably even if you only bring a minimum of luggage.

All eight rooms are spacious, measuring over 100 square meters, and each features a design with a different concept.

The urban design is combined with lush greenery, creating a sense of something extraordinary, even though it is an extension of everyday life.

Snow Peak YAKEI SUITE: A luxurious outdoor experience in a different world, just 30 minutes from central Fukuoka (Kashiwara, Minami-ku, Fukuoka)

Snow Peak YAKEI SUITE opened in 2024 in a corner of ABURAYAMA FUKUOKA, about a 30-minute drive from central Fukuoka. It is a new concept created by outdoor brand Snow Peak and the JR Kyushu Group. In a space designed by architect Makoto Tanijiri, you can enjoy an "outdoor luxury" stay that combines the open feeling of the outdoors with the comfort of a hotel.

There are three types of rooms. First, let's start with the "Cottage" (from 58,080 yen per night with two meals included / price per person for two people sharing one room).

The three cottages are lined up in what was once a ranch pasture. The spacious space is designed to resemble a living room in the forest.

The space is divided into a living and bedroom area and a wet area with showers, saunas, etc., centered around an outdoor living area, a semi-outdoor space that is seamlessly connected to the outside with no windows or walls.

The view of the sky from the outdoor living room, the view of Fukuoka spreading out before your eyes, and the gentle breeze caressing your cheeks that only comes from being semi-outdoors are exceptional!

At night, lie down in bed and enjoy the night view through the large windows. The location in Aburayama allows you to fall asleep surrounded by abundant light! There is also a private sauna, so you can enjoy sauna time while watching the night view.

Dinner will be French cuisine overseen by Chef Hiroki Yoshitake of "Sola aburayama." This is a special dish that can only be enjoyed here, prepared by this talented chef who opened "Sola" in Paris in March 2011 and earned one star in the "Michelin Guide France 2012" just one year and three months later.

Rather than just enjoying the food that is brought to you, you can also prepare some dishes yourself using Snow Peak items, creating a new style that combines French cuisine with the outdoors.

The next room is the "Villa," which can be rented as a whole (from 82,720 yen per night with two meals included / price per person for two people sharing one room).

This room also offers a special outdoor luxury experience, with an outdoor living area that seamlessly connects you to nature. It measures a whopping 150 square meters. Beyond the cave-like outdoor living area, you'll find an unobstructed 180-degree panoramic view, with a panoramic view of the city below.

The room is equipped with a private sauna, cold bath, and wood stove. In the summer, you can enjoy the coolness of the cold bath, and in the winter, you can be enveloped in the warmth of the sauna and wood stove. Here, you can experience the natural richness of nature to your heart's content as the seasons change.

Our final recommendation is the Land Cave (starting from 35,200 yen per night with two meals, per person for two people per room). This is a specially designed tent developed by Snow Peak specifically for the YAKEI SUITE. Shaped like a cave, it includes a living room and bedroom.

It's the perfect place to feel the breath of nature and immerse yourself in extraordinary luxury! It's also a great place for people who are interested in the outdoors but find camping too daunting.

Daimaru Besso, a long-established inn boasting 160 years of history, is the inner sanctum of Hakata (Chikushino City)

About 35 minutes by car from the center of Fukuoka City, Daimaru Besso is located in Futsukaichi Onsen, Chikushino City, which has long been known as the inner sanctum of Hakata.

This long-established inn celebrates its 160th anniversary this year, and has a history of welcoming many travelers through the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras.

Spread across the vast grounds is a 12,000m2 Japanese garden that reflects the scenery of the four seasons. With cherry blossoms in the spring, deep green in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and snowy scenery in the winter, the garden offers a different look every time you visit.

The large public bath, built as if embracing the garden, is a rock bath boasting an area of 330m² for both men and women, and is generously filled with hot spring water straight from the source.

The space surrounded by trees gives a sense of freedom, as if you were in a secret hot spring deep in the mountains, even though it is located in the city. Being able to experience something out of the ordinary so close to home makes you want to go back again soon.

There are 41 guest rooms in total, including three accommodation buildings, "Taishotei," "Heiantei," and "Showatei," as well as a detached building, "Rengyoan," each with its own unique style.

Heiantei (from 30,900 yen for one night with two meals / price per person for two people sharing one room) is built in the traditional Japanese sukiya style. There is a living room at the back of the two adjoining Japanese-style rooms, one 8 tatami mats and the other 10 tatami mats, where you can relax.

Dinner is a creative meal made with seasonal ingredients that changes every month. Each dish is a delight to both the eyes and the tongue.

RITA Yame Fukushima (Yame City): A high-quality traditional Japanese house stay blending seamlessly into a town steeped in history

RITA Yame Fukushima, located in Yame City, about an hour's drive from Fukuoka City, is an inn housed in a traditional Japanese house that is over 100 years old and has been carefully restored using traditional Japanese construction methods.

Spending time exclusively in a townhouse nestled in the streets of Yame Fukushima, a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, is sure to be an exceptional experience.

Of the five rooms, three are available for rent as a whole. You can choose from a detached building that is easy to use even with children, a room with a tea bath, or a room with a cypress bath.

The detached building "Baigetsuan" (from 11,358 yen per night without meals / price per person for two people per room) is available for rent as an entire building with over 220 years of history. Lighting made from Yame's traditional paper lanterns gently illuminates the space. It is said that many haiku poets once recited their poems in this building, and spending time sitting on the veranda and gazing out at the courtyard is a luxurious experience.

If you stay at Baigetsuan, you can also experience the "tea bath" that is unique to Yame!

Each guest room is equipped with a Yame Tea Tasting Room, where you can compare three different types of single-origin Yame tea and fully enjoy the differences in taste.

Dinner is a simple yet sophisticated Japanese chef's choice course that makes generous use of Yame ingredients. We recommend pairing it with Yame's local sake, Shigemasu.

There is also a plan that includes a Japanese breakfast featuring a wide selection of local dishes from the Chikugo region, such as gameni, dagojiru, and potato buns.

When you check in, you can also get a guided tour of the town. Feel free to ask about things you'd like to experience or buy. They'll introduce you to some interesting Yame anecdotes.

It may be more like a lifestyle experience than a trip. You may discover a new way of refreshing yourself.

Enjoy your stay and fully experience the charm of Yame.
